So, this is my current situation: I moved into an apartment with a friend of mine (people told me afterward it would be a bad idea-I'm discovering they were right).
She's not interested in being a roommate; she wanted to do it with me because she thought she could cow me into doing what she wants in regard to the apartment. Anything I do that she doesn't like is "rude" and she wants to hear nothing from me on the same type of subjects. She's not above threatening to destroy or just throw out my possessions if something I do (or she has perceived that I have done) makes her angry or frustrated, and her idea of compromise is "fix the things about you that irritate me; don't mention anything that bugs you." I don't know what to do; I feel imprisoned in my room most of the time (she blames me for isolating myself, as well) and I'm locked into a lease until December. It would be more problematical to try and dissolve my part of the agreement, at least at present.
I can't talk to her at the moment; she's ready to take offense at anything I say that could be taken in an offensive or twisted around to mean something else that I didn't mean. She's a decent friend, but a monster of a roommate.
