Man, should I do it or not??
Okay, so I was goofing off on the computer (again), and I went to the Johnson & Whales University website. (That's the college I want to go to.) And it said they're gonna have this summer program where you can spend a few days on one of their campuses and explore the career opportunities they have. And I want to go, so I can "explore a career as a baker or pastry chef through the university's International Baking & Pastry Institute". Yeah, when you go for a few days over the summer, they actually TEACH you stuff. And in this case you get to cook stuff. (Specifically, bake stuff.)

And it would be AWESOME if I could go, mainly because then I could actually experience what it would be like going to college to be a professional pastry chef. Plus it would give me something to do this summer...And it would be really fun.

BUT...There are ALOT of setbacks here...First off, their closest campus is in Raleigh, North Carolina. Which isn't THAT far away, since it's only a few hours south...But it also costs $195. It's one of the more expensive ones. (All the programs for the other career fields are only $95, but all the cooking ones are $100 more. >.< ) And I doubt my parents are gonna want to pay that much. Plus, the cost of gas to drive there, and costs for a hotel if they want to stay in the area until I can come back home...

Not to mention, I don't even think my parents WANT me to become a pastry chef. Hell, I don't think they want me to be ANY kind of chef. They want me to be...I dunno...Something boring. Like a heart surgeon or a lawyer or something. Dad says "I'm too smart to be a chef", which is total BS. It takes brains to be a chef. Mom says "being a chef doesn't bring in alot of money", which is ALSO BS. Think about all the top 5-star chefs in the world. They're not all rich for nothing.

On top of that, I have to mail the application for the thing by the end of May. That's NOT alot of time to convince my parents about it...

Aww, jeez...I really want to do this...But I know my parents are gonna say no... crying

well if you see your self going there for college.. you should do it. $195 isn't bad either, considering they will be teaching you stuff. I wanted to do something like that except at an art college and it costs at least $1000 for the summer program! (probably because its a private college though) You might want to consider doing it the summer of your junior year, and convince your parents you will pay for part of it?? Good luck!
P.S.- I didn't know you even baked stuff? Maybe bake your parents a cake to try to convince them! 3nodding
