Chapter 6
Chapter 6
-A few days later-
Ami walked through the colony. Since there was no more Seed, she had taken the rest that Kyoh had suggested her. Today, she was wearing her civilian clothes, a short skirt with footless stockings and a dark blue shirt. Ami sighed to herself. "I just finished that damned apology." she muttered to herself. Then she mentally kicked herself. She was lucky that Emil was good with negotiations. The cast she told off was willing to let it slide if Ami were to send him an apology. She still felt that she was in the right. Ami soon bumped into a male. "Owww." they both said. The male looked at her. "Ami?" Then she looked up to see Ethan. "It's good to see you Ethan." She noticed that he wasn't his happy self. Not that he was always happy, just that being around him calms everyone, whether by his confidence of cockiness. "What's the matter Ethan, you seem down." Ethan thought about how he was going to tell her. "Ami, you have heard about the Hive right?" She nodded. "Yeah, I listened to Hal before I went to bed. It seems that we are doing a final assault on it." Then she crossed her arms. "I never thought that I would be working with AMF again so soon." Ethan gave a small smile. "I heard about that. Caused quite a scene. Not that I blame you. I probably would have done the same thing." Then he shook his head. "Well, anyway. I just found out that Hyuga and Maya are up there. And if I don't do something, they will be killed by the assault."
Ami became frozen. "Hyuga...killed?" Then she shed tears silently. Ethan looked at her. No one saw her cry. Not even when she got hurt during her missions, she never cried. "The President denied me his assistance. So I'm resorting to doing things myself. I have everything I need to get there, just making the final preparations before leaving." Ami wiped her eyes, but she couldn't stop from crying. "Thank you Ethan. Thank you." Ethan passed her a tissue. It was then Ami realized something. "Ethan, bring them back safe. I swear, if I wasn't already in trouble, I would go with you." Ethan smiled. "It's fine. You should stay in your position. I probably risked my Guardian license because of this stunt. I don't need to bring you down with me." Then she looked away. "I promised Hyuga that we were going to talk after his mission." Ethan nodded. "I'll bring him back Ami. It's rude of him to keep someone like you waiting. Especially when it's a girl that wants him for a change." Ami's eyes widened, then she smiled. "I have to hand it to you, you are good." "Of course I am." he said proudly, "he rants on and on about the holy light guiding him and he doesn't even know that the light had already guided him." Then he looked at his watch. "I should get going." "Wait." she said. Ami pulled on her ribbon and let her hair freely drop to her back. "Give this to him." She gave Ethan the ribbon. "I've had it since I was a child. Tell him if I don't get it back, I will never forgive him and I'll beat him up." Ethan laughed. "Yeah, of course. Be careful Ami." "And you too."
As Ethan left, Ami felt apprehensive. What if they won't come back in time of the mission? What if they do, but were unable to save Hyuga and Maya. Ami didn't know it at the time, but Emil was watching the entire scene. "Dammit Emelia, I hate it when you are right." He went over to Ami and lightly placed his hand on her shoulder. It made Ami jump a little. "Don't even try to hide it. I saw the entire thing." Ami's face was a bright shade of pink. "Heh heh eh, I guess you did. Is it against the rules?" He shook his head. "No, it isn't. As long as it won't affect your abilities as a Guardian. I won't stop you." Ami smiled again. "Thank you...Papa." Emil hugged Ami, nearly putting her in a bear hug. "You called me Papa! I'm so happy." "Ugh. Can't. Breath." she said. He realized what he did and let her go. "It was a one time thing okay. It's weird to call you that since I call my father the same." Emil nodded. "I understand completely. Go get yourself ready. We'll be leaving in a few hours."

The mission itself was simple, the Guardians were stationed at the frontlines, in case there was an attack from the Hive that brought Seed to the area. While the AMF were in space combating the Hive. Ami did notice that the mission was a little behind schedule. But shrugged it off. Soon, everyone was able to see the AMF forces fire at the Hive. With all the lights, it looked to be a star shower. Now, everyone was celebrating that Seed was gone forever. Ami was running through the crowds of people, looking for Hyuga. "Excuse me. Excuse me!" she said, bumping into crowds. Very rarely did people openly celebrate in the colony. Mostly, they kept it to themselves or the recreation sector or the bars for the older crowds. That was probably where Emil was. She saw Kyoh. "Hey!" he shouted. The two ran to each other and gave a high five. "We can finally have it easy for awhile." Ami smiled. "Yeah. But hey, have you seen Hyuga?" Kyoh shrugged. "I think, I saw some people going to the observation deck." Ami nodded and made her way to the Linear Line.
She finally made it to the line when she saw that there were crowds of people too. "Ugh, at this rate I won't get my ribbon back for weeks." She flashed her license to the crowds. "Excuse me, Guardian coming through." It helped a bit with moving through the crowds. She stopped for a moment and turned on her commlink. She tried to contact Hyuga, but was met with a disconnection beep. "Too much photon interference for it." The next train appeared before them. With the crowds, Ami got crammed into the car. "Ugh!" she shouted. Then she looked at who was in front of her. It was mother with her child. She arched her back out, to make a shield for them. "I'll make sure you two get some comfortable room." she said to them with a smile. "Thank you miss." said the mother. "Are you by chance a Guardian?" Ami replied with a simple nod. The child just looked up at Ami. The child was female, no more than two or three years old. Ami winced a little from the pressure on her back, but she was determined to not let the pair get cramped. Those five minutes seemed like hell for her. The car slowed, then stopped when it reached the platform.
When everyone emptied out, the mother bowed to Ami. "Thank you again miss. I do appreciate what you've done." The girl laughed and waved at Ami. She smiled back and waved at the child. It was for things like that Ami became a Guardian in the first place. Ami ran down the hallway, only to be met with more crowds. Apparently, everyone wanted to see a scene without Seed to interrupt it. "Grah!" Then she stopped. Ami took a monomate capsule before going further. The pain she felt in her back earlier left instantaneously. She, once again, made her trek through the crowds. She stumbled into a room. It was a couple standing there, looking at each other. Ami recognized them as Karen and Ethan. "But I do know." Ethan said, "That I want to keep protecting this world because you are in it Karen." Tears ran down her face as she ran to embrace Ethan. Ami smiled softly to the scene. "Good for you Ethan. You deserve it." Ami quietly left the room, her intrusion did not need to ruin their moment.
As Ami walked through the observation deck, she thought about how she was going to talk to Hyuga. She finally found a room in which she could be to herself for a bit. She sat on the floor, the only illumination were from the stars. "I had all this time and I don't have a single word planned for it." She closed her eyes and began to think. Eventually, the exhaustion of the mission took over and she nodded off to sleep.
At that time, Hyuga walked into the room. "Finally, I can get away from all those crowds." He passed his hand through his hair, his trademark. He became still when he saw that Ami was sleeping. What Ethan had told them before he volunteered to take Maya back on the Landeel was still in his mind. "There's a certain Guardian who requests that you bring that ribbon back to her. She says that if you don't bring it back, she won't forgive you ever and she will beat you up. I've seen her fight, I wouldn't want to lose that ribbon if I were you." Then he remembered before leaving what he whispered to him. "She cried at the thought of you dieing." That what shocked him the most. Most of the time, Ami didn't seem very feminine around them. He sat beside her and watched her sleep. Her face was tranquil. The confident face she showed while awake was erased completely. His face was becoming red with every moment he was spending with her now. He was now questioning himself why he didn't talk to her while they were going to the Guardian's Academy together. At least he would have known more about her then than he does now. Ami leaned in on his arm. His face became even redder, if that was possible now, when he noticed that her breathing matched his heartbeat. Subconsciously, he placed his arm around her shoulders. The sudden touch woke Ami up. She looked up, only to see Hyuga's light blue eyes. "Have a nice sleep?"
Ami got up and started bowing. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean-" "Shhh..." he said. "I understand that you were tired. But it is quite dangerous sleeping out in the open like this." She bowed away. "Right! I'm sorry." He stood up and dusted himself off. "I think this belongs to you." He took out of his jacket pocket Ami's ribbon. "Thank goodness you bought it back." He pouted playfully. "What? I nearly died back there and you're relieved that I bought back a ribbon?" Ami nodded. "Yeah. Do you mind putting it on me?" He sighed. "Sure, why not?" He went behind Ami and started going through her hair.
It was soft. He began blushing to himself, Hyuga Right liked touching her hair. "Did you know that I grew my hair because of what you said?" His eyes widened at the statement. "It was back at the Academy, you and a couple guys were talking about the females in our class. I just happened to come by when my name popped up. You said something along the lines, 'Ami? Her? If she grew her hair, then maybe she'll be cute. But that attitude is sure to drive any male away.' " She had imitated the quote in her best Hyuga impersonation. "I do not sound like that." he said. He tied the ribbon in her hair and turned to face her. "Hyuga. Er...I don't know how to say this. It was sudden." "Take a deep breath, and say it from your heart." Ami closed her eyes and took a deep breath, like she was told. "Hyuga, at first I disliked you because you were throwing yourself at women. But when I saw you fight, I grew respect from you and within that, I developed a crush on you. I thought that once I became a Guardian I could get over it. But when I saw you again on Neudaiz, it was still there lingering. And there was the mission to the Relic. Ethan told me that you were captive at the Hive. The thought of you, not standing here with me was too much and I cried. That's when I realized something. My crush? It developed into love. Hyuga I love you."
Hyuga stood there. He knew full well what he was in for the moment Ethan told him that she cried for him. But he never thought of how to respond to it. It certainly was the first time a girl targeted him. "I know, we're both Guardians and because of that, every moment could be our last living. I'm prepared for that." Ami continued. "But this won't hinder my abilities as a Guardian. It'll make me work harder," Ami thought in the back of her mind, she started to sound like she's explaining herself to Emil. She shook her head. "I will understand if you do not see me in that way at all." She started to walk away. Hyuga grabbed for her hand. "Don't leave." He pulled her into him and embraced her. "We can try. That's all we can do now. We can see where this path will take us." Ami smiled. "Thank you." She reached up to his face and kissed him on the cheek. "That's all I get?" he said. Ami nodded. "Yeah, you do. That's for returning my ribbon. We just need to try hard to get to that point, don't we?" Hyuga let her go and grabbed her hand. He gave it a gentle squeeze. "We should get going. I don't want to give the others any funny ideas." Ami nodded. "Right." The two left the room, holding hands.
"My name is Ami Satomora, and I'm a Guardian. This is my story, this is my path. But for now, I'm not walking it alone."

Woooooooo! Part 1 is now complete. Yeah I know now that the scene between Ethan and Karen took place on the Landeel. Like I said, wasn't thinking and I wanted Ami to get a glimpse of it. There's a reason which I will write eventually
Part 2 : A familiar face and the start of something sinister.
