Confessions pt. 1
Two guardians were running down a hallway, hands intertwined. "Didn't think they would trap us like this." mumbled the male. The female was just trying to keep up. Shots rang out, but the two were fast enough to barely miss the photon bullets aiming for them. They darted around the corner. "Come on, pick up." he said. For some reason, their distress signal wasn't getting through to their colleagues. The female stopped, "I'm sorry, if I didn't-" He hugged her, silencing the rest of her statement. "It's not your fault." he said. They heard the footsteps of the enemies drawing near. He grabbed her hand again as they ran. More shots rang out, knicking their arms. The female looked around to see an enemy aiming his rifle at the male. 'I have to do something.' she thought. The trigger was pulled, giving the girl a few moments to do something. "Hyuga!" she shouted. He turned to her. It was then things began to go in slow motion.

"A mission ma'am?" asked Hyuga. He stood in front of President Laia's desk. "Yes," she said, "I want you and Satomora to go and investigate a tip. Normally, this part will be left to Intelligence, but if it's true, then we need to act quickly." "But wouldn't Ethan be better suited as my partner." Laia stifled a laugh. "No, Ami is your perfect partner for this mission. She knows the layout well and she's a girl." Hyuga was a bit confused at the girl statement. "In order to not draw suspicion, the two of you will pose as a married couple." Hyuga didn't even try to hide the dumbfounded look forming on his face. "She had the same look too. Just a lot more blushing." she said. It took a moment for him to regain his composure. It was tempting, in more ways than one. "Given your reputation, I wouldn't even consider you. But she is most at ease with you, so there was no one else. And the two of you work well together." Hyuga frowned a bit. "I'm not like that....much." he said. Ever since meeting Ami, he had calmed down in his off-hour activities. "I'll accept." he said, "Not that I had a thought to refuse in the first place." Laia gave a small smirk. "You're taken with her, aren't you?" He shook his head. "No. She and I were classmates and good friends. That's all." She lifted her hands. "Alright, I won't go deeper into that. What you do in your spare time is what you do. Go get packed and meet her in the PPT floor. She'll fill you in on the rest." Hyuga was making his way to the door. "Oh and Hyuga." He turned to her, "Yes ma'am?" "Don't do anything that will make me want to slam your head into the door." His face turned red. "Your words hurt me Laia. I have more restraint than that." With that, he left the office.
A couple hours later, he appeared at said floor. Ami was sitting on a bench. He noticed that she was fiddling with her fingers, a nervous habit she had. "Good afternoon, Partner." he said. Ami nearly jumped out of her seat when she heard his voice. "Oh, it's you." she said, trying to calm herself down. "Laia said to ask you about details?" Ami stood up. "Yes." She laughed at herself for the blank moment. "Well apparently, some remnants of Illuminus decided to form their own little group. They still pose the same threat, even though they are smaller. Where we are going is allegedly their home base." Her fist tightened up at that part. "It's my home colony. That's why she asked me to come along as your partner." Ami closed her eyes. "I'm worried about my parents though. It's going to be hard to explain a sudden marrage and discharge papers. Fabricated or not." Hyuga placed his hand on top of hers. "We'll figure out something." She nodded. "Right, and on the records, I still have my family name. For some reason, yours don't sound right with my name." He gave a laugh. "I see. Well I'm sorry for having such a weird last name." Ami shook her head. "Not your fault." The two went on the shuttle afterwards.

A few hours later, the two arrived at their home, which also served as their base. It was an adequate size, considering what they are using the home for. "Ami! Ami!" shouted a child. She turned to the voice. It was a young male, about nine or ten years of age. "It is you Sis." Hyuga looked at Ami. "I looked after the children here a bit when I wasn't working." she explained. He gave Ami a big hug. "It's nice to see you too." she said, patting the child's head, "Has everyone been tame while I was away?" He nodded. "Yeah, some of the older people went to join the Guardians. I want to as well when I get older." Ami smiled. "Don't go into Mobile Defense, they will wear you out." She laughed, showing that she was just kidding. Hyuga hadn't seen this side of Ami in the couple years they've known each other. Given that they aren't around children when working, he understood. He noticed that the boy was staring at him. "Er, hello?" he said. "Who are you?" asked the boy. Ami's face became red. "This is Hyuga, he and I worked together. And he's my..." She was silent. It was harder than it looks to tell someone she was 'married'. "I'm her husband." he finished. Ami mouthed a 'Thank you' to him. The boy's eyes widened in shock. "So he's gonna be Bro?" Ami nodded. "Yes, and I want you guys to treat him as you would me. Or I'll give you It." The boy nodded. "I can't wait to tell the others." He ran off to go and tell the other children about this discovery. "He seems nice." said Hyuga. Ami nodded. "Yeah, he is. All the kids are. I hope you're good around kids. They'll probably wear you to death since Kyoh isn't around." Hyuga laughed. "Well, I think I can manage. I did work with Ethan." Ami's tried to hold back a giggle, with no avail. "That's not nice." she said, trying to scold him. But with her laughing, it really didn't have any effect. "Come on, let's go unpack."
After a while, the 'couple' got settled into their home. There was a ringing on their door. Ami got up to answer it. A couple seconds later, Hyuga heard a "kyaaah!" He ran to see what was going on. Only to see a basically older version of Ami hugging Ami. "Cut that out Mom." she said. Ami flailed about to get away from her mother. Shion went up to the door and sighed. "Come on Sweetheart," he said, "you're going to smother her, literally." Her mother let go. She was pouting. "Three years and not a single visit?" Ami was trying to regain a normal rhythm of breathing before answering. "I was busy Mom, but not anymore. I quit the Guardians." It was then her mother took notice to Hyuga. "I've heard the kids say that you got married so I had to rush over." Hyuga blushed under her mother's scan. "It's nice to meet you..." "And you didn't even get our blessings." Ami let out a sigh. "I'm sorry." Ami said again, "It was a spur of the moment thing." Shion gave a disapproving look. "But we do care for each other." Ami shook her head. "Where am I going with this. Anyway, Hyuga this is Megami and Shion. My mother and father. Mom, Dad, this is Hyuga Ryght he's your son-in-law." "We already met." said Shion. Ami looked at him. "You were at the hospital that time when he and I met. "Oh..." Ami said, a bit sad. Hyuga took a moment to register the names. 'Megami...oh. She named her after her mother.' Megami smiled. "You picked a nice one." This caused the two to blush. "Well come in and we'll talk."
During Ami's parents' visit, the two discussed how they trained together while in the academy and how they worked together. As the conversation went on, the two found it easier to actually act like a couple. "We should get going." said Shion. Megami stood up as well. "Yes, it's getting late." They smiled. "It was nice meeting you finally." Hyuga said. Ami got up and walked her parents out. Meanwhile, Hyuga was preparing something for the two to eat. Ami got back to the door to smell something delicious in the work. She wandered over to the kitchen and was surprised that it was Hyuga who was preparing it. "I didn't know you cooked." she said. She went over to his shoulder. "Well, one of us has to. I heard from Emelia that you can't cook." 'Mental note: Do not tell Emelia anything anymore.' "I can too cook....just not bake." Hyuga let a small sigh. "You want to cook tomorrow night then?" She nodded. Ami flashed a smile. "It went over well." He turned to her. "Meeting your parents?" "Yeah, I thought for sure that my dad was going to put you in a choke hold." They laughed. "Well he seemed to approve of me when we met at the hospital." Ami once again flashed a sad look in her eyes when he brought up the hospital. He turned off the burner and looked at Ami. "I thought you were going to let it go." "I am. But it's hard you know. I can pretty much remember everything that happened when I was with them." She touched his shoulder, the same shoulder that she had shot him at while on the Hive. "It didn't scar. If that's what you're worried about. And I forgive you for that. You weren't you at that time." There was silence. "Lets just eat dinner okay?" Ami smiled briefly. "Alright."

"Ami, we need to talk about something." Hyuga called. He was in the master bedroom. Ami walked in seconds after. "Huh?" He pointed at the bed. It was one king sized bed. "I know they asked for us to act like a couple but I didn't think it would be all day and night." Ami's face turned red. "The communication room has a cot in there. I'll go sleep in there while you sleep here." He shook his head. "No, you're a girl, you sleep in the bedroom while I sleep on the cot." "No it's okay. I don't want special treatment because I'm a girl." she said. "I don't mind." he said, "I'm used sleeping on cots." 'This isn't going anywhere.' Ami thought. "How about we just sleep together then." She fell silent at what she just said. "I don't mean like 'that'. The bed is big enough for the two of us and then some. We can share." Hyuga's face was red. "You sure?" Ami nodded. "Alright." he said.
The two were sitting down on opposite sides of the bed. "It feels a bit weird without body suits." Ami noted. "Yeah but I guess if anyone were to find us in them, it would tip off us being Guardians." Hyuga said back. Next thing Ami knew, he was taking his shirt off. "What are you doing?" she asked, hiding herself blushing. "What? I sleep shirtless." he said matter of factly. "Oh...." was all she could say. 'My mind is jumping to conclusions.' she thought. She took a peek at him. 'Wow, training does give off enough exercise.' She shook her head. Ami took off her nanotranser, changing into a tank top and a very short pair of shorts. She placed herself on the edge of the bed while Hyuga was on the other side. The space between them was so much that an extra person or two could sleep right with them. "Goodnight." she said. "Goodnight." he said back.
Hyuga couldn't sleep at all. Other than the fact that all of this was dawned upon him, there was a female sleeping right next to him. "Ami, you asleep?" he whispered. His only reply was Ami's deep breathing. He never noticed before but with the moonlight reflecting off her hair, it looked like it was an ocean. He moved a bit closer to Ami. Subconsciously, he ran his fingers through her hair. It felt soft, a bit matted because she was sleeping, but soft nonetheless. It was his guilty pleasure. Ami moved slightly. He stopped, fearing that she was awake. She made another heavy sigh. Then, Ami's face scrunched up into a frown. She broke out into a sweat. Hyuga knew it was the signs of a nightmare. "It's okay Ami." he whispered. He brought her close to him, in some attempt to calm her down. The moving stopped somewhat. But there were small sobs escaping from her throat. He continued to soothe Ami until she quieted down. But then, the problem was that she wouldn't let go of him. He let out a sigh. "This is going to be very weird in the morning." He closed his eyes and soon he drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Ami woke up to something warm. She was still half asleep, so she didn't know it was acutally Hyuga. She snuggled a little closer, trying to stay in the warmth. It was then she realized that whatever was warm was also holding her. Slowly, Ami became wide awake. Her face became flushed when she looked up to see who it was. "Ehaaaa!" she shouted, quickly getting up. "Well good morning." Hyuga said, waking up to the screech. "What were you doing? What was I doing?" He got up. "Calm down. You had a nightmare so I held you to soothe you. I tried to get you off, but you didn't let go. So then I just dozed off to sleep. " Ami turned around. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..." "It was about when you were under the nano-machines' influence?" Ami nodded. "I can't get the image of shooting at you out of my head. If I aimed a bit more to the right then I would have...." Tears came out of Ami's eyes. "But you didn't, so it's all okay." He put on this nanotranser, putting him in his signature clothing. "How about we go get some breakfast."

For the next month and a half, the two guardians stayed true to thier mission. Ami worked at the resturant she used to work at before becoming a Guardian while Hyuga stayed behind to start the investigation. On weekends, Ami would join in on the investigations as well. Finally, the two gathered enough information to find the base. Now, they were preparing to inflitrate the base per the headquarters orders. "Are you sure you want to do this?" Hyuga asked Ami. The only reason they were able to find out about the base was Ami's brief involvement with Magashi. She nodded, "Yes. I didn't think that they still thought I was under Magashi's influence." She put on her nanotranser, putting her in her clothing from when she wasn't herself. She fiddled with the bangs of her, now long, hair until it was covering her right eye. She then turned to look at herself in the mirror. "This will be the last time I look like this." she said boldly.
The two arrived at the designated meeting spot. "So it seems that Magashi's little puppet did survive after all." said a woman. "I'm not Magashi-sama's puppet." Ami said, trying to get her tone of voice into what it was. The woman looked over to see Hyuga. "And you bought a Guardian?" "Captured." she said. Ami turned to him and mouthed 'Sorry' become approaching behind him. She kneed him at the shins and kept him on his knees. "He was trying to find the base when I came across him. Kept him in my custody since." The woman smiled. "Nice work, for a puppet." Ami kept every urge to go and break character right then. "Fine," said the woman, noticing Ami's glare, "we'll go to the base. But we can't let him see..." The woman pulled out a handgun. "Wait!" shouted Ami. The woman looked at her suspciously. Ami cleared her thoat. "I really like this one." she explained, whie draping her arms sensually around Hyuga's shoulders. "Let me take care of him. We'll find out about what the Guardians are up to with their new president." "And what if he doesn't talk?" the woman asked. Ami gave a slight glare. "I'll kill him myself." The woman gave a stern nod. "Maybe you aren't a puppet after all." Ami help Hyuga up, keeping a firm hold on his arm as the two walked inside the building.
Hyuga never knew that Ami could act so womanly when it counted. His face was a bit pink from the encounter. The three arrived at a cell. "Go on." Ami said, nudging him into the cell. "Come, we'll get started on a new strain of Seed-virus. One immune to the cure." Ami stopped. "I thought all the Seed were gone a couple years ago?" "We managed to get a couple forms to experiment on. And we still have the data from our little Cast outbreak and the Relics you managed to get data from." Ami lowered her head a bit. "I ask permission to stay behind for a bit. I want to make sure the prisoner doesn't have any means of gaining advantage. The woman let out a sigh. "Okay, but only a hour. The sooner we can make the strain, the better we're off." The woman left, only leaving Ami and Hyuga. "Sorry about that." Ami whispered, while blushing. "How do you do that?" he asked. "What?" "That change in character. I didn't think that you could do that willingly." Ami closed her eyes as she walked in the cell. "Let's just say that my mother had many aspirations for me." She looked at him. "Which one?" she asked. He looked at her quizzically. "I can hold all your weapons, but I'm going to leave you with one and your support gear. So tell me which one you want." "Oh, well, the saber. I'm better with those." Ami nodded as she transferred the weapons to her nanotranser. "I don't know how long I can keep it up though." she admitted. "Eventually, they'll figure out that I took the cure. Can you try to contact HQ about their plans." He nodded. "Yes of course. You just keep in character. And be careful." She nodded. She began to walk out of the cell before stopping. "Hyuga?" "Hmm?" Ami opened her mouth to say something then stopped. "Nothing." Then she walked out.

Anyway, I really do like how the EPIC retelling is being like.
