A random collection of my thoughts
Building a computer
Yesterday a channel I subscribe to on youtube gave a review for the apple iPad. Apparently the battery is not removable and the battery life sucks. There's no USB support or flash player. The only thing it had going for it was a very large touch screen. The high end one was $830 with only 64gb of storage space which isn't much. I thought to myself I could build a pretty good computer for $830. Various parts come and go in my mind so I'm kinda making a list to see what it would cost. This is for a desktop rather than laptop though so not really a portable system. This is sort of an informative thing rather than this is what you MUST have. These are the components necessary, but they don't have to be the exact product listed.

Bare Bones kit: $250 Includes motherboard, processor, RAM, Hard Drive, DVD burner, and power supply.
RAM: $90 Optional: if 2gb isn't enough.
Video Card: $60 Optional: If you're not going to play high end games don't waste your money on it.
Power Supply: $60 Optional: If 450 watt power supply isn't enough. Get the power supply if you get the video card
CPU fan: $40
Operating System: $110
Alternative Operating system: Free Note: Not compatible with windows programs. Don't use if you are going to use a lot of games.
Mouse: $8 Optional: If you are replacing an old computer with a new one and the mouse still works just keep it
Keyboard: $9 Optional: Same as mouse
Monitor: $150 Optional: Same as mouse

Total cost Including operating system but excluding all other optional parts: $400
Total cost for all components: $767
Prices don't include shipping.

So there you have it. I can make a good desktop for under $830.
