Chp 2 Valentine's Story
The bright well-favored sunlight cast its rays, pushing away any cloud that dare try to hide it. A sign that the child at least deserved it, since the battle it had last night. A gift, a gift of peace and friendship that would last for the rest of the child’s existence. The woman and the man stood and watched as the rays covered the child, making his skin glow brighter than he needed to be. The woman moved her black hair from her face and spoke in a kind heart-warming tone.
-Isn’t he supposed to scream and burn up into flames?
Her hazel eyes averted their gaze from the newborn to her husband next to her. In those bright light brown eyes held concern, worry and curiosity. Deep down inside she held fear; fear for she knew that she had a child born from the void of darkness. Who’s sole moral for living was to damn the others, making its own army of the undead. The first two to join, were themselves. She gripped the edge of the crib so hard that the wood that made it had begun to creek and moan with the pain, the screaming of thousands of splinters. Her husband looked at her with worry, and gently laid a comforting hand on hers, as she quickly relaxed and let go of the crib.
The child stirred, giving out a relaxed sigh. His little face was chiseled in marble, every feature was flawless. It would have been hard to see such a wonderful, perfect thing as this to be monstrous. The child held no such threat, at least a deadly threat. The arms were on their side, slightly spread from each other. The hands which shared a partnership with the fingers were closed partway. Part of the thumb that stuck out had a slight shine to it, giving off its position of hiding itself in the child’s mouth.
-I think so. My dear wife, don’t fret. We both wished for a beautiful baby, and here he is.
-But Sam, he’s one of them. He could,
-Dammit Marlene! He is still a newborn, what harm could he accomplish besides killing our backs and pricking our fingers? We shall teach him not to be what his parents and friends of the dark are. Sure, he’ll always be one, but if it were you, wouldn’t you want to be accepted? Give him a chance.
She looked back at the child, whose mouth was wide open, showing small needle thin fangs, he was snoring as well however it was silent and gentle. She couldn’t help but giggle on how cute this child looked she had thought about what her husband had said about being accepted. The child had not been accepted by his parents which in turn was why he was found out in the dark alone and wet, striving to live.
Another few thoughts ran through her head as well. His food would not be the milk from her breasts, but the liquid life that flowed through her blue veins. How much did he need? Would she turn into one of them with just one bite? She shook her head to rid of those horrid thoughts and questions. She had taken a deep breath. She turned to Sam after compiling on what she was about to say.
-We shall keep him as our own. However, you will be the one to keep watch over me when I feed him. If I look ill or am on the verge of looking like one of them, you will kill me. Agreed?
He glanced at her wide eyed. The thought of losing the one he loved, especially him being the one to end his own wife’s life had hit him hard. He couldn’t bear to lose her; he would fight before turning onto such horrid actions.
-Pray to our lord Jesus Christ, that, that won’t be the case.
They both glanced at one another. She put a hand on his shoulder, and then gently stroked the side of his face. Unknowing to them the child was watching them, a smile quickly made its way to his face. However he couldn’t contain himself and let out a high pitched squeal. Hiding his face with his hands, embarrassed that he killed the moment.
-Oh, look who’s awake. I pray we didn’t wake you little one.
He began to “coo” and “gah” explaining in his words that he was already awake, and also how he had this weird feeling in his belly. A feeling as if something inside was flying upwards. Marlene gasped.
-His eyes just changed color. I swore they were green a moment ago. Now their gold, I wonder what it means?
She quickly had taken him in her arms and began taking a closer look at the child. He reached up and had put a hand gently on her face, tracing the edges of her nose, running a finger along her lips as she began to speak.
-I love you as well.
Sam had looked at the two and couldn’t help but smile. He nuzzled the child’s cheek and in return he giggled, feeling his face as well, taking in every feature that would not be forgotten so long as the child lived. They were more perfect in every way than he was.
-What shall we name him Marlene?
She continued looking at the child, as so did the child to her. Still feeling the contours of her pristine face, he smiled and “cooed”. Explaining to her that she was the most perfect being. A goddess in form, and her husband a god. He the mere peasant to serve them, and he was happy.
-Let’s see,
She had taken a moment gazing into the child’s golden eyes as the child gazed back. Both in a mental trance sharing information, talking in a world beyond the known ones. In a realm that could not be touched by man, only one that connected the woman with the child. Neither of them had done nothing but breathe. They both smiled as he also squealed again, hiding his face from embarrassment. Marlene let out a laugh.
-I agree little one. His name shall be Valentine. A name for a strong willed, sweet, innocent boy.
Sam awed on how close they had gotten over a short period of time. He nodded.
-Valentine it shall be.
The nature outside the house made an uproar at the congrats of finding life and fighting death and winning. The natural order of things didn’t shun the child but embraced him as did his new foster parents. Only Valentine could hear their joyous celebration. The three of them smiled and laughed, only to be disrupted by the monster that was growling inside Valentines belly.
