My last entry was a month ago. and still no word on deleting my account so I guess it's safe.
Yesterday was the day many websites protested SOPA/PIPA. For those who missed it somehow they are bills that are supposed to censor the internet. SOPA stands for Stop Online Piracy Act and PIPA stands for Protect Intellectual Property Act. The idea of stopping online piracy isn't necessarily a bad idea. The problem is the means in which they plan to do it. I'm not sure how PIPA is supposed to work but SOPA if passed would give the government the right to block any websites for using copyrighted content. There's a lot of people who hate that idea because that can be abused to shut down websites for any reason at all.
As a protest Google censored their username for a day. Wikipedia, Explosim Comics, and many other websites had a 24 hour blackout in protest. I guess the reasoning behind that was to show people what the internet will be like if they're censored. People have been protesting this thing for months, but it's only been the past week or so that it's gotten really heavy and already many main supporters are dropping support while the Occupy movement has been trying for months with little progress if any. xd
Last night one of my friends said he was surprised a big corporation like google would oppose the bills. It actually made a lot of sense to me though. Google owns Youtube. They actually spent a lot of money to buy youtube. If the SOPA/PIPA bills pass youtube will be high on the list of sites to get shut down if not the very top of the list.
