Day 8: Tattoo
It was cold, dark and smelly. I hated alleyways and I hated them even more now, clutching the knife in my hand I tried to steady my breathing. If I lose my nerve it would be all over for me, the smell of the dumpster I was hiding behind wasn’t really helping either. Peaking out from my hiding spot I glanced over at a single flickering street lamp.
I sighed with relief, no one was there yet and I was hoping it stayed that way. Shifting back into position I accidentally grazed my shoulder across the side of the dumpster, bumping the spot that was host to my new scorpion tattoo . Covering my mouth with my free hand I winced in pain.
The events that lead up to this seemed to happen so quickly, and there was nothing I could do but go along with it. First the tattoo and now the “initiation”. My life was heading in a direction that all too often left people in jail, or even worse, dead.
I believed him when he said it would be easy, and that I was the only one would could do it. The look in his eyes made me feel like I could do anything and everything. But sitting here in the quiet alleyway, I was beginning to wonder if I could.
He said all I had to do was kill the person who showed up, and he’d forget about all the times I stole money.I had never killed anyone before so the thought of it sent my stomach for a loop, but this was something I had to do, if I ran they would kill me
The sound of a bottle being kicked sent my heart into overdrive, taking a deep breathe I looked over at the street lamp. My intended target slowly made their way toward the light. Gripping the knife in my hand, I waited for the right moment. As the person came into full view I took my chance and lunged. I just wanted you to love me again.
