If only we could get better,
heal from years of abuse,
resolve the things around us,
tell the one right next to us
that they've meant more
than they will ever know...

Maybe we could be happy.
Maybe we'd still be broken.
Perhaps the wind up doll isn't so predictable anymore.

Maybe she's not saying the things she used to.
Maybe her painted lips and glazed over eyes
are just a mask
For someone so much more real.

It isn't that she wanted you to see her.
It isn't that she wanted to push you away.
She just wanted you to see her when she was real.
Not the mask, but something profound.

Something different in a lifetime
of the same monochrome black and red.
You never wanted something bright.
You never wanted something so beautiful.
Because nothing has ever been beautiful...
But weren't they all?

Each one more exquisite than the last
until they're the same again.
She's never been that kind of amazing in her life.
She just stands by.
Waiting
With those painted lips and glazed over eyes.

You want to reach out and touch her,
See if she's real,
Or just another illusion.
Another ghost in the mist.

All you've ever seen is the mask
And all she's ever seen is whats behind yours.

And thats all she ever wanted.
