Distressed

The next few days dragged on like cold, hard nails on an old chalkboard. Celia found it hard to get away from the housemates, who were abuzz with rumors of the occurrence. As she walked through the house, she could feel the housemates boring into her soul, seeking answers that Celia couldn't produce. She held no memory of Claire’s last moments – or what could have been hers.

Celia had spent the past week hiding in any location humanly possible. At night, she traveled into the forest, exploring the places she used to visit as a kid, pondering all the hidden memories they held. She especially enjoyed visiting an old spring that she used to play in with Alex. Griff would always tell them intricate stories while they splashed about in the spring that was much too small for her nowadays. At night, it glowed beautifully, presumably due to the moon’s patterns. By day, it nearly sparkled, giving Celia fond memories of her childhood. It seemed all of her happiest memories somehow shared a link to this one, tiny spring.

Griff always seemed to be locked away in his room, coming out on rare occasions to visit Alex at the hospital, and when one of the housemates was hurt. It pissed Celia off that he was neglecting all the problems from the outside world. He couldn't just stay locked away from society and watch as everyone in the house suffered from the deep trouble they were in. The housemates were leaving rapidly, and Griff was doing absolutely nothing to keep them.

* * * * *

It had been two weeks since the incident, and Celia couldn't find any closure. The bunch of housemates that decided to stay wouldn't leave her alone. She had run out of places to hide and it dawned on her that she was hiding from her problems, just like Griff. She marched up to Griff’s door and began pounding on it with all her might as the crowd of housemates behind her stood in awe. The door creaked open as Griff’s chiseled features appeared in the doorway. With a sigh he stepped outside, shooing off the crowd that was now gathered at his door, keeping Celia by his side. “Griff…” Celia whispered slowly. He nodded his head, pulling her down the hall and out the front door. “To the hospital.” He said firmly, pulling Celia along, into the woods. Celia followed behind silently, still in shock. ‘He spoke!’ she thought, appalled at Griff’s actions.

The trek through the woods was as boring as usual. Celia could hear Griff’s deep intakes of breath while the branches crunched beneath their feet. It was like any other visit to the hospital. Girff didn't speak, and Celia didn't want to speak. They traveled in silence for about thirty minutes. As they emerged from the woods, Alex’s cry of pains immediately pierced Celia’s ears. Griff didn't even flinch. Celia ran up to the dingy hospital, pushing the door open like a wild beast. She knocked doctors out of the way as she charged to Alex’s room, in a panic. She stumbled into Alex’s room, throwing the doctor to the ground so that she could see Alex.

“What’s going on?!” she screamed, falling to her knees in tears. Alex was writhing around in his bed, screaming uncomfortably. Celia’s tears began to drown out Alex’s screams, and any other noise that could possibly be happening around her. There was no stopping her now. She had cracked.
