So then I started wondering what experience DO I have with RPing. So I decided to write my experience with RPing for this journal entry. And it’s at least 99 percent the RPing I do with my favorite guild, Fire Emblem Forever (or FEF for short, because we’re FEFabulous).
The way it works at FEF is after you’ve made twenty posts (which is nothing; I easily have at least a thousand, if not several thousand) you can claim a canon character from a game from the Fire Emblem series for RPing purposes in the guild. It’s not like the guild’s main purpose is RPing, but it is super organized: we have our canon continent, history of events, maps, everything really. And every October, December, May, and Summer (I forget the exact month, but it’s the most important since it was the month the guild was founded in) a large scale RP Event is hosted with fabulous plots and lots of things to do. It’s one every season, basically. And besides doing the RP Events at this time, there are always contests and quizzes and prizes~ and the like going on (but I digress, this is about my RP experiences specifically rather than discourse on why FEF is so FEFabulous). Smaller scale canonized RPs are going on all the time, but those aren’t ‘events’ per se.
So my RP character for FEF is Fire Dragon, the… dragon of fire… in my signature. It’s the final boss for FE7. And I basically chose him because it seemed all the characters I wanted to take were already taken, and when I noticed a final boss was available, I figured if I can’t have what I want I might as well have something memorable (and memorable he is).
And I’ve had him for a few years now, and he’s been my crash course into RPing. Since he’s a… dragon, which is SUPER unorthodox for a canon character (most characters ARE people), it didn’t really make sense and my first RP (Winter ’0 cool with him was super awkward. He basically incinerated monsters that were plaguing Eyris (the capital of Learania, the country FEF resides in, but also the name of the larger continent). So not long after that event, I decided to make him capable of possessing a human shape so he would be capable of communicating and engaging with the rest of FEF for events like a normal person. And around the same time, Rhys (from the guild) decided to make a Host Club (inspired by the Ouran High School Host Club) and was inviting people to join. I claimed the spot of Hikaru instantly, and my good friend Nils claimed that of Kaoru. This somehow evolved into canon with Nils and myself eventually becoming a couple in the RPs (and it worked out perfectly, because Nils is also technically half dragon/half human and has a form for each).
So by this point, I’d developed Fire Dragon into a character with a human form, made him part of the FEF Host Club, and made him part of a pairing (FD and Nils are currently engaged and should be hosting a wedding this summer in the RP). And I used him in multiple RPs since that all happened, and he somehow came to go by the name FD, which makes more sense than going by Fire Dragon, even if it’s just a couple of letters. I’ve also developed a backstory for him that would take too long to write here. The thing was, although he had a human form, we nobody knew what exactly it looked like while every other canon character has official art. My good friend Ephraim was wondering as well, so, being the super talented artist she is, she just decided to draw him one day and came up with this:

So now FD had a face. Adding to that, the Captain of FEF, Rath, decided to make a mug of him based on Ephy's art and produced this:
So FD is totally hooked up now. He has art, and a mug, and a battle sprite (the battle sprite is that of the dragon in my signature). Every canon FE character has a mug, here’s some examples (of Nils, Ephraim, and Rath, since they’ve all been mentioned anyway):
But RPing as the same character gets boring, and after a while you want to diversify your repertoire. Fortunately at FEF, while you’re only allowed a single canon character from an actual FE game, you can have up to 5 (I think it’s 5, it might be 4…) OCs. And I just finished producing my first OC, Blythe:
It’s the first mug I splice myself, so I’m pretty damn proud. Oh, and Gabby, while you’re familiar with Blythe from my own writing, I use him as a recurring concept character for various things with recurring aspects, so this incarnation of him isn’t the one you’ve read about. They have certain things in common though. He’s sort of like my Cid from the Final Fantasy series (a concept character that has been present in every game in the FF series since FFII, manifested as a different entity every time). Anyway, I’m planning to start RPing with Blythe for the next Guildaversary in the summer. It’d take to long to put his backstory here as well, but he’s from the same FE as Ephraim is canonically, and he’s a Troubadour (which, in FE jargon, means he rides a horse and heals people with staves).
I’m also in the initial planning stages for my next OC for FEF, which I’m hoping to have be a male cross-dresser. But my summer RP plans can be summarized as: I’m going to RP as FD and Blythe in FEF for sure, I’m going to work on my next OC for FEF, and I’m going to and RP with Gabby and Mirna that features vampires.
But I have no idea what I’m going to do for the vampire RP. I guess I could recycle Blythe, and make another incarnation of him. Not sure though. Thoughts?
