~ My personal take on "Madama Butterfly" ~
Cio-Cio San, a 15-year-old Japanese geisha nicknamed "Butterfly", falls in love with American sea captain Lt. Pinkerton. Butterfly bears his child, but when his tour of duty in Japan is done, he abandons her.
Butterfly settles down to await Pinkerton's return. He eventually does return, but with his American wife, who is barren, and they've come to take the child away.
When Butterfly learns of Pinkerton's cruel plan, she makes a tragic decision.
