• Chapter One

Annabel Nishikawa is a girl who lives in Paradijs village full of people and magic. The village was peaceful and protected by the great magician De Magie. When Annabel was two years old, there was a great war with dark magic and De Magie. De Magie was weak and the dark magic broke through and went after the people. Annabel was frightened. Screaming in terror, she looked up in the sky to see an enormous glow of light.
There De Magie gave special gifts to some of the people; they are to be called Magische Menschen, people of magic. Annabel already had the gift to erase memories. She sat their watching with terror and hope. She went to the floor of her room and prayed. “Dear God, I wish I can have a baby sister, I know momma can’t give birth to anymore kids, since the carriage accident,” while praying, De Magie was listening. “But, I would like a sister to love and to watch over.”
Her dad is mayor, and he is always at work. Her mom is a healer, and is at work as well. “Please give me just this one wish. In Lord of above, Amen”. When Annabel was finish, De Magie gave what was rest of her to Annabel. She watched in amazement with the rest of the town’s people, as the magic came together in a great bluish – yellow glow. To everyone it looked to be a star, but Annabel looked hard and close and saw the form of a human…

    18 years later…

“Come on Kali we’ll be late for school” Annabel screams from the front door of the house. Annabel is Kali’s older sister, by three years. “I can’t find my necklace!” Kali yells back. Annabel rolls her eyes in astonishment Annabel gave Kali a pearl necklace on her tenth birthday. The necklace was very special to Kali. As Kali runs down the hall of the house with the pearl in hand she catches up with Annabel. Annabel was very special to Kali. What ever Annabel did she always includes her. Down the street of town, they watch as the people walk by to get items or food. They also watch people sell delicious fruit and vegetables. Annabel and Kali can smell the aroma of the bakery. Kali looks at a mirror with happiness. It shows her bright midnight blue eyes, her long brown highlight hair and her light tan skin. She turns to her left to see her sister doing the same thing. It shows her aqua blue eyes, with her chestnut brown hair and her natural tan skin. When Annabel was 14 and Kali was 11, Annabel snuck Kali out to get a tattoo.
Annabel got the Giapponese symbol for love. Annabel paid the man to give Kali the symbol for magic. Later Kali asked why that symbol for her. Annabel replied “Because that is what you are”. Kali looks back in the mirror and looks hard. “I don’t look like magic,” she thinks to herself. Annabel looks at Kali with worry. She doesn’t know when will be the best time to tell her about her birth. A huge explosion of shouting interrupts their thoughts. They turn around to see a barber kicking a teen boy out the door. “We don’t cut Magische Menschen’s hair in this town, now scram!!” The barber shouts for all to hear.
Annabel remembers how the people and the Magische Menschen were very peaceful to each other. But hatred came when a Magische Menschen and one of the town people’s daughters got married. The father of the daughter was hoping for a grandson. They did get a boy but he was born with magic. Later people with no magic started giving birth to babies with magic. They said it was the Magische Menschen faults they were a disease. They were kicked out of town where they made their own town and village. Annabel shakes out the dreadful memory. She turns just in time to see Kali’s midnight blue eyes turn to cloudy gray. Annabel grabs Kali by the arm and runn to an ally.
She looks out to the street to see if anyone saw Kali. Then she turns to Kali to find her in a corner crying. Little gray glowing tear drops fall to the floor. Kali turn to Annabel with watery eyes. “I thought I was cured”. For a moment Annabel thought she was talking about the boy. Then it hit, when Kali was three she went to a boy and told him he was very cute. Annabel was right next to them when they watched Kali’s eyes turn to a bright orange. The boy became scared and ran. When Kali found out; she wanted to tell her mother. Annabel stopped her and told her this happens to every little girl when they turn three. She said it was a sickness. She added that it was God choosing an eye color.
Kali smiled and her eyes went back to midnight blue. Annabel gave a big sigh of relief, but she worn Kali not to tell mother or God will get mad. Yet Annabel knew all of that was a lie. She went to her sister and hugs her with love. “Don’t worry about that, maybe God is still looking, anyway why are you crying?” Kali looks up with slightly teary eyes, “Why do they treat those people like that, always kicking at them or hitting them?” Annabel smiles to hear that Kali calls them as a human and not some creature’s name. “Those Magische Menschen are just like us, but they just have special gifts of magic. Annabel smooths Kali’s feeling to normal and they walk to school together…

    30 minutes

“Hey Annabel, Kali, what took you guys so long?!” shouted Surhomme Shinabi as he stood at the front of the school. The girls gave him a face of confusion. Lucky Kali didn’t felt that way so her eyes were the same. Surhomme is Annabel’s boyfriend since they were 14 years of age. Kali smiled to see her sister happy with love. Kali wishes to have the same kind of love with a boy just as Surhomme and Annabel have. Surhomme was one of those boys who care about girl’s feelings and emotions. Surhomme haves short spike dark chestnut brown hair with olive green eyes that glow with mischief.
His skin was tanned from working in the field with his other brothers and his father. Even through, Kali and Annabel are totally late for school, Surhomme waited for them anyway. The sisters also were sometimes late because, since their father was mayor he, and his family had to go to meetings for the people of town. The teacher, Ms. Culien was just finishing some writing on the broad when Surhomme and the girls came in. “Well ladies and gentleman how was the meeting?” she asked as they walked in. Even though Kali is younger than everyone in the room, she is very intelligent. They sat down with no answer knowing that it was always the same answer. “Well since you made it just in time, I was about to teach you about the history of the war between De Magie and the dark magic”, after hearing that Kali sat up straight to hear this.
She always saw Annabel point of view during the war. “People don’t know why the dark magic came upon the people, but they were scared. They watched as De Magie maid a bright glow of light in the sky.” Ms. Culien stopped to see if anyone was listening. Annabel watched as Kali looked with interested of the history. “So all of you will interview any person who was of their family member was there during the war,” Ms. Culien announced. Everyone groaned; Surhomme, Annabel, and Kali joined in for fun. Surhomme knew he is going to interview Annabel since she is the only other person he knows who was in the war.
Annabel decided to do her neighbor, but Kali didn’t know who to interview. She only knew Annabel cause of all her stories of the war and De Magie. Then the teen boy, who was kicked out of the barber store, popped in her mind. Maybe I can interview him since she said any person and he is one.
