• Chapter 1 - The Gift

"Oh my gosh, how is it possible that I am late again?!" cried Serena as she dashed down the street. She was running 10 minutes late for her lunch date with Darien. 'The only reason I'm late is because Sammy was being annoying and didn't let me into the bathroom to brush my teeth this morning!' Serena was holding onto a small wrapped box, and as she was running she was trying not to crash into anyone so that the paper would stay neat. She wanted Darien to enjoy his present, not look at it like it was a bowl full of carrots. Serena made a face. 'I hate carrots, yuk!' she thought. As she turned her next corner she was the coffee shop. She stood outside for a couple of second to catch her breath then put on a beautiful smile and strode inside. As she was waiting to talk to a host she looked at her watch. 10:07 am. 'Not bad, I can just say that the lunch rush had me stuck behind.' She didn't like bugging Darien with her problems. Finally the host was able to talk to Serena and she showed her to where Darien sat patiently.
"Hey Serena! Where have you been?" he asked. He smiled as she sat down, this had been the first time in weeks they could have some time to talk, just them.
"The lunch rush was CRAZY, it took me forever to get down here, I hope I didn't keep you waiting."
"No problem, I just hoped nothing had happened to you. So, what do you want to eat?" asked Darien calmly. Serena smiled,
"I had a big breakfast so a muffin and some hot chocolate will be fine." Honestly Serena did have a big breakfast, but she wanted the morning date to go perfectly, that way Darien might enjoy his present even more. Darien smiled at Serena and then noticed the gift in her lap.
"Who's that for?" he asked. Serena blushed and stared at the gift.
"Oh well it's....because it's almost Christmas I thought.....here..." Serena stuttered as she handed the box to Darien. Darien saw that she was blushing but didn't say anything. He silently peeled the wrapping paper off and took the lid off the box. Darien pulled out a wrist watch that had a beautiful frame and had an amazing clock face. Darien stared at the watch, then at Serena, and back again. Serena giggled then asked:
"Do you like it?" Darien stared at it for a little while longer then looked at Serena.
"It's amazing! But this must have cost you -" Darien started, but Serena cut him off.
"Nope! No talking about price, let's just say I didn't eat as much candy as normal for the past few months." Serena smiled at Darien as she took a sip of her hot chocolate that was just set down on the table. Darien felt a little guilty, he hadn't thought of a gift to get Serena, or did she even want a gift? These question swirled around in his head before he decided that he had to get her something!

"Ok Serena, see you later!" said Darien waving as he pulled the hood of his jacket over his head as Serena walked away from the coffee shop. As soon as Serena was out of sight Darien started walking up and down the streets window shopping for a good gift for Serena. He began thinking about how Serena is now on her last year of high school and wanted to get her something that would make her really happy and seem more mature. Darien almost gave up, he couldn't see any shoes, clothes, dresses, or purses that Serena would enjoy. He was stumped, but then as he was about to walk home, he stopped in front of the ring shop. He smiled, 'I know just what to get her now!' he thought.

"Serena! Your boyfriend is on the phone!" called Sammy to Serena who was in the living room. Serena looked up from her comic book and blinked in surprise. 'Why is Darien calling me this late?' She asked herself. She didn't want to keep Sammy or Darien waiting (more importantly Darien) so she took the phone.
"Hello? Darien? Is that you?" she asked.
    "Yep, it's me!" he said.
"Why are you calling so late?" asked Serena.
"I'm sorry, I just couldn't wait, I need to ask you something." said Darien urgently.
"Well, what is it?" asked Serena. The suspense was eating at her.
"I can't ask you now, tomorrow meet me at the park at 7:00 pm ok?" said Darien. Serena
    stood their for a moment.
"That's a little late don't you think?" she asked.
"Trust me it's not, you'll see what I have planned." he said happily.
"Ok, I'll meet you then and there." said Serena. "Bye!" Serena hung up the phone. Serena was really confused on why Darien wanted to meet her so late, but it didn't matter to her, she still got to see him! And really her favorite place to be was at the lake at night, it was beautiful how the moon reflects off of the water. Serena yawned and walked upstairs to change. Then she crawled into bed exited about what was going to happen tomorrow.
