First there was the solstice,
The Darkest Day of the Year.
Up went the trees,
Decorated with candles and lights.
The day was dark,
With snow on the ground,
Yet is was merry
With gifts all around.
Then came Baby Jesus
All snug in his manger.
The Wise men brought gifts
From the Far East
For the newborn Christ
Gold,
Frankincense,
And Myrrh.
Then, from that day
The solstice also shown,
As the celebration of the birth
Of young Jesus.
Then came the jolly man,
All dressed in red,
With white fur lining his jacket.
Across the world
It is said that he tread,
To deliver gifts on this night
To the little girls and boys
Who have been
Nice all the year.
His name is Saint Nick
He is well known as Santa
And for the gifts he brings.
To bring joy and cheer,
To the cold nights of winter.
The spirit of Christmas,
Seems to have been forgotten now a-days.
It’s all about presents
Of possessions
And objects.
Where has you gone?
O’ spirit of Christmas?
By the many names you go by,
On these cold dark days?
Where is the joy in giving
That you gave?
Giving does not seem to have meaning anymore,
Just receiving what you want,
While other things bore.
Where are you O spirit?
Let me call by your two names:
Saint Nick of giving!
And Young Jesus of peace!
Where is the joy you gave?
Where are the ones,
Who Give,
Not Receive?
Where are the ones,
Who give food the hungry?
Who are the ones who give,
Shoes to the little ones
With bare feet on cold, Icy Ground?
Why are the people,
Trampling others for toys?
Why are the others,
Making such a fuss,
And so much noise?
While others may
No longer see you,
Dear spirit
I still do
I still feel the joy of giving
Of lighting up the face of the ones I love
With a gift Handmade.
I do not care what I get
As long as others are happy.
O spirit of Christmas
O spirit of Giving
O spirit of Peace
For as long as someone sees you,
Kind spirit of Christmas,
May you live on
Forevermore.
