• Chapter 1: Death Straight from the Flames

Surya woke up one night coughing. She flies off her bed to see a fire out in the hall. The room is filled with smoke, she tries to get out the window but it is locked shut. She grabs an Amethyst and uses it to break the window. When the window broke she slowly climbed threw it trying to avoid getting caught on a piece of glass.
"Everyone wake up! There's a fire! Hurry!" Surya yells as she climbs out her window into the grass.
Surya runs toward the door to see if her parents are coming out with her baby sister Keira. When she tries to open the door she burns her hand and yelped.
"Move out of the way!" her mom yells.
Surya moved away from the door. Her mom kicked the door down and walked out with the baby in her hands. She falls on her back into the grass. Baby Keira seems stiff and isn't moving. Right when she walks away into the grass the house falls, Surya hopes her dad has escaped threw the back.
"Get water from the creek" her mom says with trembling words.
Surya runs around the house and climbs over the fence to the backyard to grab a pale and to also see if her dad had made it out alive. When she gets over the fence she starts crying to see that her dad has not made it out. Even though she is sad she rushes threw the back yard and grabs a pale and heads toward the creak. When she got the water from the creek she came back to the front of the house and gave it to her mom.
"thank you Surya" her mom said sadly "but it is too late.."
Surya, confused, looked down at the baby. After one glance at the loose baby she knew that her sister had died too.
Since they had lived in the woods they couldn't go and get help so they walked four miles away from the house and started a camp there so that if the fire restarted it wouldn't catch up to them too fast.
Her mom made made a fire pit with rocks around it. She had some twigs she found around her inside it. She used two flints to get the fire started. Surya threw some pine cones that were laying next to her into the fire. Soon without a word spoken that night they were both sound asleep.
