Being a vampire is a living hell. Everyone fears you, having to manage your bloodlust, always having to hide your true identity from the rest of the world… Of course, being a vamp does have its advantages. You have enhanced speed and strength, heightened senses, the ability to shapeshift (not into a bat, but altering your appearance), the ability to charm humans… But overall, my life sucks.

I was Changed centuries ago, so I don’t really recall much of my human life. I do know that I missed out on a lot of things that only a mortal could go through, like graduation or marriage. It still pains me to know that I’ll probably live forever, but never be able to experience college or true friends or a real romance. Vampires are mostly forced to isolate themselves from others, even other vamps. All that talk of covens or affairs with humans is a lie, although I wish it were true. This life is like a fantasy with no happy ending, and I despise that.

You’re probably wondering why I’m writing this down. Honestly, I’m not really sure. I vaguely remember being obsessed with writing and literature as a human, so that may be it. Human traits can sometimes carry over to your new life. I’m writing this on a scrap of newspaper; because it’s not like I can just waltz into a store and say, “Hey, I don’t have any money ‘cause I can’t go to work. So just fork over a journal or I’ll suck your blood.” Um, no. …Well, I guess I could rob a store or steal a journal from one of my victims, but keeping a record of my life is too risky. Another reason why my life sucks.

I’m beginning to get thirsty, so I’d better stop writing now. Otherwise, I’ll be like Dracula. “I vant to suck your blood, mwahaha!”

    Sincerely Yours,

P.S. Everything in that Dracula book is a bunch of b.s.
