• Chapter 2: A nice present after getting better

It's two weeks later. Katara's leg was healed and she was able to go out on her own. There was a lake a little way from Katara's house. Her parents didn't mind if she went out to the lake. Katara's family has a pet dog so Katara can't get lost without him finding her. It looked like it was going to rain. She didn't mind rain or sunshine.
Katara watched as the birds flew over head. She felt a rain drop on her nose and took shelter under a nearby tree. It was warm rain. The gentle dripping of rain made her eventually fall asleep.
There was something prodding her. She opened her eyes and saw a dragon. The warm rhythmical rain had stopped and Katara jumped up. The yellow dragon then spoke. "Hey there brown dragon, are you okay?" She stared at the dragon. Did he just talk? "Excuse me? Did you just call me a brown dragon?"
"Well yeah, because that's what you are. You must have hit your head brown dragon. Maybe you should go see Angel, the healer dragon."
"I'm not a brown dragon! I am a human named Katara!"
"Really? You look like a normal brown dragon in every way. Are you tricking me or something?"
    "No! I wouldn't lie!"
"Well, I should take you to Angel. Come on. I'm Koja by the way." He walked with Katara to a hill. In the side of the hill was a door with two plants in front of it. Suddenly the door opened because of Koja's whispering.
Koja and Katara went in and the doors closed. It got dark, but that didn't last long because there was a red dragon approaching. "Hello Koja, is there another hurt dragon?"
"Yeah. Can you light the way Melinda?" Melinda nodded her head and walked with Katara and Koja. Koja and Melinda made some conversation as Katara looked around. There were bats on the roof of the cave. Suddenly the cave opened up to a giant underground fissure. There was a large gap.
A few white dragons with powerful white eagle wings were on stand by near the gap. They looked at Koja and Katara. "Another dragon?" one asked. "Yeah. Can you fly us over Alli?"
    "Of course, Koja."
The dragon came over to Koja and Katara. Koja climbed on Alli's back and put out his talon scaly hand out for Katara to grab on to. She hesitated and Alli said, "Don't worry, I can carry both of you and more on my back, now please, get on." Katara nodded her head and got on the Alli's back. She flew up and over the gap. Katara looked down and thought Look at that black gap. Imagine falling down there! That would be scary. Falling and falling. Not sure when your going to hit the bottom.
As soon as they were in the air, they were on the other side. "Bye Koja! I hope you feel better dragon!" Suddenly Alli flew up in the air and over the gap, landing on the other side safely. Koja looked at Katara and then walked forward. She followed him and watched as the dark cave was left behind and the cave opened into a beautiful clearing. At the far back was a rather young pink dragon with pink feathery wings.
Near her were more dragons. They looked up at Katara and Koja as they approached. The dragons said hello and stayed where they were, but the pink dragon, who Katara assumed was Angel, came over. "Hello Koja, my friend. Is there another hurt dragon?"
"Well, kinda. This dragon says her name is Katara and she is a human."
"Well, I say she's probably tired. Come, Katara. Have a rest." Angel pointed to a nest that a dragon with bat wings was sitting was sitting next too. When Katara approached the nest, it smiled. She smiled back and curled up.
When Katara woke up, Angel and Koja were deep into a talk. "So The legend is finally coming true Angel?" Angel nodded her head and they both turned to look at Katara. She noticed that all the other wild dragons were glaring at her. She scooted her way over to Koja and Angel. "Angel, Why are the other dragons glaring at me?" Angel shook her head and Koja answered. "Your an Eclipse dragon and they don't trust Eclipse dragons because they have heard stories about the terrible Master Moon dragon who enslaves dragons because he searched for the legendary Eclipse dragons. They say that the Eclipse dragons will inflict them with bad luck."
Angel began speaking. "Some of them worked for Master Moon and hated it. Of course I trust you because your my friend." The pink dragon with pink feathery wings smiled at me. Katara looked as if she was about to cry. She thought to herself, what have I done to deserve this? "Koja, I want to go home now." Koja nodded his head and waved bye to Angel. "Good-bye my friends! Come visit me again!"
Koja and Katara had just left the cave when a fire dragon came out from a bush. It breathed out fire and Koja and Katara jumped out of the way. More fire dragons appeared and they surrounded Katara. Suddenly a bolt of lightning hit one and it turned to look at Koja. Koja had sparks appearing off his scales. He roared and let out another dose of electricity. The fire dragon got hit and it cried out. It stood still as the sparks worked their magic. The fire dragon tried to move, but the electricity had made him too stunned to move.
Suddenly Koja let out a screech of pain as fire hit him. He fell to the ground. Knocked out. Katara's claws scraped the ground. She was alone to fight these fire dragons. I'm doomed! Suddenly there was a flash of silver and black scales. The silver scales let out a powerful psychic blast and the fire dragon jumped backwards. The silver scales and black scales stopped in front of Katara. There was two more dragons.
Katara jumped up and ran over to Koja. She grabbed him and tugged him into the undergrowth. Katara hid in the roots of a tree and waited for the two dragons to come and find her. Suddenly there was pain spreading in her body. It became too intense to apprehend so Katara collapsed.
Katara woke up to seeing Kharma and Kitty standing over her. She sat up. "Where's Koja!?" They looked at each other and then back at Katara and Kitty asked. "Who's Koja?" "He's a little yellow dragon!"
"A dragon? Have you hit your head or something Katara?" What in the world is going on here?! I could have sworn that Koja was just here. Kharma had picked Katara up and started carrying her. As they headed away from the tree, there was a deep chuckle. "Who would have expected it would be them to be the eclipse dragons. This will be one fun time." Suddenly there was a bright flash of black light and a cardinal flew out of the tree in the direction of the ocean.

It was three days after Katara met Koja. She had received a shopping list from her mother and was in town. It was a cold rainy day that day so Katara had dressed in some blue jeans, dark blue shirt, boots, and a black jacket. Suddenly the rain got harder so she dashed into the Smyrna Delli. Katara let out a breath and took off her hood. "Whew! That rain sure did come fast." Katara pulled out her mom's list. "Eggs, milk, bread, and.....oh whats this? She needs me to go to the post office to pick up a package. Yeesh mom you pick the worst days." Katara started walking around the delli and picked up everything her mom needed. She went up to the desk and payed for it all. "Thank you and have a nice day." said the cashier. Katara left the Smyrna Delli. The rain had slowed down so she could walk easily to the post office. Suddenly Katara froze.
Siran was walking this way. He had seen her and came running over. He stood in front of Katara. She had to look up to see his face. "Hi Siran." He smiled at me. "Hi Katara. What are you doing out here on a rainy day like this?"
"My mom told me to go get some stuff for her."
"Would you like to join me for a nice warm soup Katara?" She felt her face go red. "Um...Sure." Katara and Siran starting walking next to each other. Soon they reached Country Corner and we went inside. "What would you like Katara?"
"Chicken noodle soup." Siran ordered a chicken soup and tomato soup. They took a seat next to the window. Katara took a spoon-full of soup and held it up to her mouth. She took a bite. It was so warm that it warmed her body. "Yummy. Thank you Siran. How much do I need to pay you?"
Siran smiled. "There's no need to pay me. Just think of it as a gift of friendship. You and I are friends now." Katara's face went deep red so she glanced down at her feet. His smile faded. "Hey are you ok? Your face is red." Katara looked up and closed her eyes and waved her hands around. "Oh it's nothing! Nothing at all!" She finished her chicken noodle soup and got up. Katara looked up at the clock and gasped. "I'm sooo late! And I still have to go to the post office. Bye Siran!" Katara ran out of the doors and bolted to the post office. The rain had gotten harder and this time her hair was drenched by the time she got to the post office. Katara went up to the front desk. "I'm here to pick up a package for the Helios's."
The person behind the counter and smiled. "Good-morning Katara. Here you go." He handed Katara a package that was addressed to her father. "Good-bye Uncle Joe!" Katara ran out of the door and ran down the side walk. "This is just great! I'm running late and it's raining!" She got to the part where she had to cross the street. Katara was running across when she slipped. Katara landed on her bottom. She rubbed her bottom. "Hwy." Suddenly Katara heard a car coming. Frozen by fear she couldn't move. Suddenly something shoved Katara out of the way and she landed on the side walk being held by Siran. Katara's face went red again and then she jumped up. "Oh Siran I'm so sorry! You could have been killed by my stupidity!"
    He smiled. "It's alright."
"Anyway! I have to run! See you!" Katara ran down past an alley. Kitty and Kharma were coming up the alley and watched as she ran by. "Um Kharma? Did you see that? Or have I been drinking too much hot chocolate?"
"Um no Kitty. I saw it too."
Katara went inside her house and took off her jacket and boots. "Mom! I'm back with the food and the package."
"Thank you dear! Bring me the food and then go give your father the package." Katara walked to the kitchen and placed the brown paper bag of food on the counter. Then she headed upstairs to her father's study. He turned his chair to Katara as she came in. "Ah Katara. Thanks for my package." He took it from her. "What's in the package dad?" He smiled at Katara. "It's a dog toy for Pete."
"Couldn't we have gotten the toy at Pet Smart?"
"Well yeah, but what's better than having it come in the mail and then us wrapping the box without spending money to get the box?" He laughed and Katara groaned. Her dad always did stuff like this to save money. She left her dad to his studies and went to her bedroom. Katara's door was open and Pete, the family's golden retriever was lying on her bed. He looked up at Katara as she entered and started to wag his tail. He barked happily at Katara as she approached the bed. "Hello Pete! Have you been a good dog today?" Katara rubbed him behind the ears and sat on the bed.
He laid his head on Katara's lap and closed his eyes. She picked up the remote and switched on the TV. Katara flipped around the channels and stopped on the movie, Fire and Ice, a dragon movie. "I bet Koja and all those other dragons were just a dream, but then again, I don't normally dream about that stuff." Pete raised his head. Suddenly he began speaking. "I wish I could help you Katara." Katara sat straight up. "Pete, did you just say something?!" He looked as surprised as she was. "You can understand me?!" Katara screamed and Pete howled. Katara's parents ran into her room. Katara had ended up falling on the floor.

"Pete talked and I understood him!" Katara was now sitting up in bed with Pete on the floor. Her parents were in her room pacing in front of Katara. Emily sighed and looked at Katara. "Your probably still tired. Get some rest." They left Katara's room and she sighed. Katara laid on her bed and shut her TV off as the rain thrummed against her window.
