Tonberry Epic (Working Title)
The story of a Kingdom thrown into chaos and ones tale of survival.
Chapter 4 - Down The River
Elliot awoke in a shock. He gasped as he rose. "Still alive..." He knew he couldn't let that happen again. A fool mistake as petty as tripping could cause his death. The wound over his eye seems to have settled. Elliot grabbed his sword and shield as he got up. "Time to move." he thought.

His boots crunched the leaves underneath his feet as he walked. The sound made the morning creatures flee. Elliot's hunger got him to realize that it's early morning and the deer are all out. In desperation, he unsheathed his sword and clutched it tight. "How well can I hunt with my sword?" he asked himself in his mind.

"It's time to find out." A deer jumped out of some bushes. Elliot was sneaking up to it. He lunged to thrust his sword through the shoulder of the animal. The deer ran away in terror. He missed. In anger, Elliot drove his sword into the ground. The crunching of the leaves caused more animals to flee. He instantly saw another deer. In a second, he rushed at it, clearing at least 20 feet in a second. Before the animal had time to react, Elliot's sword was in it's gut. Dark blood trickled out of the wound. Elliot, quickly reacting cut the deer up before it could escape.

"A meal finally..." He eagerly thought. Elliot dragged the kill to a clearing and made a fire pit. He tried to remember the spell for fire. In quick memory, he shouted "Alkor!" in flash, a fire started in front of him. The leaves and twigs in the pit cackled in the fire. He cooked the good meat in the fire and waited for a feast. The red, bloody meat was now a crisp brown. If it weren't for his father, Elliot wouldn't be able to survive alone.

He bit into his dinner almost as if he were enraged. His hunger was overwhelming and now he gets to silence it. The taste was great on his tongue. In a hour, he finished eating the good meat and left the carcass for scavengers. The Velmin seemingly gathered in an instant. The rat-like creatures used their razor teeth to tear the carcass apart. The horrid creatures made Elliot shiver as he saw them rip into the flesh. Elliot walked away before they recognized him.

Velmin's red eyed gaze can pierce the bravest of all things. The black fur on them was told to be sickening to touch. The tails on them were razor sharp to ease their times eating. Though small in size, these creatures were terrifying.

Elliot realized what he had done. His hunger made him forget that starting a fire was basically a signal of his location. Realizing this, he ran. He forgot where he was heading, but he just wanted to escape the forest. He ducked and weaved through the trees. He passed by any scenery quickly. He stopped when a river halted his movement. He looked for a way to cross it. He saw a weak tree standing weakly by the river. He drew his sword to chop it down. He hacked at it many times until, eventually, it fell. He was lucky it was long enough for him to cross. He balanced himself on the bridge and crossed slowly and carefully.

Across the river, a cliff stood tall above him. Instead of trying to climb it, he traveled down the river. He was tired from running constantly. Trees seemingly grew on the rocky surfaces of the cliffs themselves. Elliot couldn't stop now. All he could do was carry on. He took a glance at the river and saw the fish swimming upstream, opposite of where he was going. He stopped as he saw what seemed to be the end of the forest. The trees ended as the river continued to cut across the plains.

"The river could lead to a lake, and then a town could be nearby." Thought Elliot as he traveled alongside the river. The plains were lush with green grass and small flowers growing randomly. The cliff continued to move until Elliot saw a point where it turned to go another direction. The river calmed where he was. The rushing sound of water flowing ended, and now it was a gentle, pleasant noise. Then it ended when he saw an abandoned watermill. Elliot stepped up the creaky steps in search of supplies.

He knew what he was doing could be illegal, but he was already on the run. He opened the door into the darkness of the building. His footsteps creaked on the old floor. Cobwebs brushed into his face, which he just brushed off. He found a candle on a table near him. He whispered "Alkor." to start a small fire on the remaining wick. It worked. A small fire increased his sight in the dark house. He could see what really happened to the watermill. He immediately did not like what he saw.
