Tonberry Epic (Working Title)
The story of a Kingdom thrown into chaos and ones tale of survival.
Chapter 5 - Demons and Thieves
The candle light illuminated most of what was in the watermill. What it didn't light, Elliot didn't want to see. The ravaged bones of a family previously living in the mill were scattered throughout the entryway. Bits of flesh hung off the bloody bones and let loose an awful stench. Blood was splattered on the walls. The bones carried signs of bite marks. The skull of a large skeleton had a hole pierced through the back off the had. Nothing was inside the vessel. Elliot noticed one strange fact about the scene,

"This is fresh..."

Elliot threw up a little in his mouth. The sight not only was disgusting, but it happened recently. Whatever did this could still be here. Elliot only heard of things that did this in horrible stories told in his village. The fictional Ter'Galluck could actually be real. Elliot remembered the lance-like piercing tongues described by the elders. Their petrifying red serpent eyes. Their claws that could tear a blade in two.

The night-hunters spread fear throughout his village. The thought that they could be real made Elliot shudder. He had to press on, though. Soldiers could capture him and put the blame on him for this slaughter. He pushed a bone out of his path to go through a dark wooden hallway. A loud creak would sound after every step he took. The floor was clearly not safe. Elliot was about to turn around and leave through the outside, but as he did, an extremely loud snap made it clear the floor was giving way. As the floor broke, Elliot fell into darkness.

He landed on hard concrete as he fell. If he had been prepared for the fall, he wouldn't have been hurt. He was in complete darkness when he landed. There was nothing he could use to create a fire for a light. Nothing to catch magic. He used the wall to guide him through the darkness. Stumbling like a blind man, he comes across a torch. Finding this, he says "Alkor!" to ignite the torch so he could see. He was in a long hallway under the watermill. He pressed on.

His leg hurt as he walked. He then passed a room. He looked in and saw a man sitting there. The man looked up. "He's alive!" thought Elliot. The man looked dirty. He must have been there for a while. His red tunic was cut probably from battle. A dagger was resting in a hilt on his hip.

"I didn't expect to find someone else down her. I'm guessing you fell." Said the man.

"Who are you? How did you get here?" Asked Elliot.

"I came here thinking I could find some valuable stuff to steal here." Said the man smirking. His eyes revealed a strange fact. They were different colors. His brown hair covered them before, but now Elliot could see one normal, green eye and a deep red eye.

"You can call me Lindus." He said.

"I'm Elliot. You're... a thief?"

"Kid, we live in harsh times. The king's men took my parents. I was forced to live off what I could find... and take." Said Lindus in response. "That's a pretty little scar, you got there."

"... The soldiers took everything I knew..." Said Elliot looking down.

"Well, I guess we'll have to stick together now. We have something in common, now." Said Lindus, getting up.

"You any good at fighting?" asked Lindus.

Elliot partly unsheathed his silver sword to show him. Some blood was still on it from hunting.

"Okay then." Said Lindus in response.

"What happened up there?" Asked Elliot, hoping to get an answer.

"That was there when I got here a few hours ago. Whatever did that could still be here, and I don't think we'll want to stick around to see them." Answered Lindus.

"Let's go, then." Said Elliot.

The two ran down the hall hoping to find an exit. They heard a load scream from down the hall. Looking back, Elliot saw some kind of creature hopping from wall to wall at great speeds.

"Run!" Screamed Lindus.

The two ran down the hall in hopes to escape the creature. They made a quick turn and could see a small light far down the hall.

"Go!" Elliot screamed.

Lindus ran down to the door. But it didn't open immediately.

"It's locked!" Screamed Lindus in panic.

"I'll buy us some time! Work on the lock!" Said Elliot turning.

The creature let loose a blood hurdling scream. Elliot's ears hurt. Unsheathing his sword all the way, he assumed a battle stance in hopes to engage the creature. It unleashed a piercing tongue attack to stab Elliot. He swung his sword to deflect the attack. He made a cut through the tongue, and the creature retracted it, screaming in pain.

Blood dripped from it's mouth. It pounced at Elliot at great speed. Elliot swung again at the right moment, cutting the creature and breaking it's path. It bounced off to the right of Elliot, smacking into the wall.

"I got it!" Shouted Lindus in joy.

He slammed open the door, letting sunlight beam down into the hallway. The light poured onto the creature making it scream again and retreat down the hall. Panting, Elliot walked wearily toward Lindus. He sheathed his sword.

"Be glad I can pick a lock!" Said Lindus smugly.

Elliot frowned angrily. The two walked out into the land that awaited them. The land was lush past the door. Walls of rock surrounded both of Elliot's sides. There was no more forest here. The plain seemingly stretched for miles.

"We should head for Gildja, a town past this plain." Said Lindus. He pointed to the town's direction.

Elliot would have been a legend in his village for surviving a Ter'Gullock attack. Relieved, Elliot left for Gildja with a new ally.
