Sunday February 15, 2009, at 7:00 PM, I stepped into an arena with four men on stage playing as fast and as hard as they could, and that was just the opening act. Trivium took the stage first, followed by Coheed and Cambria, but the main event was still to come. As at every one of their concerts, the Nine make us wait a full forty-five minutes before stepping onstage. As soon as their first song started, I was on my feet, hands in the air, screaming like I had nothing to live for.
This is Slipknot.
I have never in my life felt the kind of energy that I felt at that concert. There is nothing in the world like a Slipknot concert. Just being among the Maggots was a new experience in itself, but once the Masked Marauders themselves hit the stage, it was a huge rush. As Corey Taylor put it, that night was my baptism as a Maggot. My baptism in sweat, spit, and pure motherf*cking adrenaline. And I loved every second of it. It was chaotic, it was painful, it was deafening, but it was also the greatest show on this Earth. From "Eyeless" to "Psychosocial", from "Purity" to "People = s**t", from "Before I Forget" to "Spit It Out", Every second of this concert was pure f*cking gold.
