Pieces of the Heart
part 18

Lavi's shoulders were slumped as he dragged his feet down the hall. After a few corridors of stomping and fuming and growling to himself, he began to realize how nasty he had sounded, and the guilt had set in with full force. He acted like a child and threw a fit. In front of a group of cute nurses too!!
It was official, he was a beast.
"Man" he sighed, ruffling a hand through his red locks. "I wonder if they'll forgive me..."
He was so caught up in his thoughts of self guilt that he didn't even notice the dark figure approaching...
There was a sudden 'umph!' and lavi fell back a step, as the finder he collided with fell to the ground.
"Woah, are you okay?" Lavi asked, immediatly offering his hand to the fallen man for assistance. "Sorry, I was so spaced I didn't even see you..."
"Its no problem" the man wrasped as he grabbed lavi's hand to help himself rise. "I wasn't paying attention either."
"You alright?" Lavi questioned, looking the man over. The only visible part of him was his face and hands. The rest of him was covered by the traditional finder's robes. His eyes were dark and shiny, and surrounded by dark circles. They looked familiar.
"Do I... Know you from somewhere?" Lavi asked.
The finder cocked his head.
"Mmm..." he put a finger to his chin. "Maybe... Have you been in the medical ward lately? I was in there recently..."
"Oh." Lavi grinned, feeling a bit more relaxed. "Yeah, i've been there."
The two sat in akward silence for a moment, before lavi decided he should be moving on.
"Well.." he said, "I guess-"
"Oh!" the finder grinned suddenly, and lavi felt a chill run down his spine. "You're Lavi Bookman right? The exorcist with the hammer innocence?"
Lavi stared for a moment, before nodding his head. That seemed like a bit of a strange question...
"I thought it was you!" He seemed to grin wider and took a step forward, to which lavi unconsiously stepped back. "You hand out with the cursed boy alot right?"
'cursed boy?' lavi stared. 'Is he talking about Allen...?'
"Well?" The finder pushed.
"W-what do you want?" Lavi asked, backing away a bit more. "Isnt that a kind of rude way to talk about one of your superiors?"
"Ha!" the finder laughed loudly, making Lavi jump. "One day i'll be HIS superior. I just have to get to him first." His grin increased, and the dark circles around his eyes seemed to expand and writhe.
"W-what?" Lavi stared. He kept retreating as the finder advanced upon him.
"This stupid order has so many twists and turns! I'm sick of being lost! But if I use someone who KNOWS their way around... then this will go alot faster!"
"What are you!?" lavi cried. The finders robes began to tear and a dark smoke sprayed from his body and into the corridor. Lavi turned to run, but the tendrils of smoke flew forward and wrapped around his body.
"What's with this smoke!?" he cried. "It's pulling me back!"
He was dragged toward the finders body. The smoke constricted his torso, and moved up toward his neck. Spots floated in the air as he felt his airway close. He gasped out for help, suddnely wishing he hadn't been so stubborn earlier.
"Lavi!!"
A bleary green eye opened to the blurry hallway. Dark shapes were running forward. Who was it..?
"Someone get a light!"
He blinked slowly as the world spun. It felt like he was drowning. Sounds were becoming muffled, and his resistance was slowly fading. Finally, his world went black. The darkness covered his eyes.
"I've got it!"
He barely felt the world around him constrict before it dissapeared completely and he fell to the floor. Hands suddenly appeared, all around him, pulling him in a different direction. They pulled at his clothes, his hair, his skin, and when one passed over his face, his world was alluminated with a bright flash.
"Lavi... LAVI!"
"R-Reevers?" Lavi croaked back, his single green eye squinted against the bright light shining down on him.
"Lavi... you need to open your eye all the way. The darkness was touching you, and we need to make sure we get rid of all of it. Can you do that?"
The red head on the ground desperatly tried to open his eye, but searing pain shot through it and he squinted it shut with a groan.
"Hold him down." Reevers said softly. He leaned over lavi's head and forced his eye open to the light. The red head whimpered as tears slid down the side of his face.
"I know Lavi, I'm sorry, but just bear with me okay?" Reever's soothed.
As soon as the scientists declaired the all clear, Lavi was released from their hold. The red head smashed his eyes shut, wrapping his arms around his face for protection from the brightness.
"Come on Lavi." Reever's said softly, "Lets get you to the infirmary."
"No!" lavi groaned. Even though he was hurting, he still didn't want to face his friends yet. Not yet. "I mean... no... i'm okay..."
"Lavi." The assistant cheif put his hands on his hips in a non-nonsense sort of way. "Your lying in the middle of a hallway, unable to open your eyes, and with barely enough strenght to move. I'm pretty sure that warrents you being 'un-okay'."
"Chill Mom." lavi sighed. "I just need... a second to regain my breath." 'and maybe stop shaking.'. He took in a shuddering breath and slowly, oh so slowly, rolled into a kneeling position. Bracing himself with the wall, he pulled himself into standing position.
"There." he said, somewhat shakily. "Just fine."
"Dandy." Reever's narrowed his eyes. "But if you start feeling even the slightest bit ill, you come STRAIGHT to the medical ward."
"Yes sir!" Lavi saluted with a grin as Reever's huffed out a sigh and moved away with the rest of the science department.
Lavi watched them go until they vanished around a corner. He then promptly fell to lean against the wall. He felt like he had just run a marathon in the process of trying to stand, but he really didn't feel like going to the medical ward, and staring at the sympathetic and slightly peeved faces of his peers.
With a sigh, he began the long treck to his and bookman's room. The geezer was still out of town, so that meant he could collapse and have a good long sleep without interuption.
A few steps later, he suddenly turned around. There was a nagging feeling in the back of his mind. Staring down the hall, he realized what he had forgotten.
'Where did that finder go...?'
***

"It suddenly became hard to breath, and I though maybe it had been a trap, but before I could do anything, I blacked out. The next thing I know, I'm waking up in the medical ward, with a bunch of nurses crowding around me." Kanda folded his arms across his chest and sank back into his bed in the medical ward. The group around him, consisting of Allen, Lenalee, and Komoui, who had woken and was now sitting in a chair while fully bandaged, stared in wonder.
"Wow." Allen stared. "They told you alot more about the situation than they've told me." He seemed to pout for a moment.
"They probably figured your moyashi brain would have problems digesting all of the information." Kanda sneered.
"Oh, like you would do any better, Bakanda." Allen sniffed.
"Alright, alright." komoui raised a hand in silence as his other hand moved to his head.
"Nii-san..." lenalee leaned forward, placing a comforting hand on her brothers shoulder. "Are you alright?"
He smiled at her over his shoulder giving a quick affirmaive "Ah." Then he turned back to the samurai in the bed.
"So Kanda-kun, I think it would be best if we made a timeline of what happened, just to make things more smooth. You go on the mission, and dissapear."
Kanda nodded. "I woke up somewhere dark, with no real memories, and a lotus. I hear people calling me, but I end up losing to the darkness."
"At the same time here." komoui interjects. "Allen is lured into your room, where the darkness manifests and breaks your hourglass."
"But before it could get to the lotus," Kanda continues. "That girl..." He trails off, staring at his bed sheets with a strange look of concentration.
"You mean Alteara?" Allen asked. "The blonde one?"
"yeah." Kanda grunts. "Alteara... She saves the lotus, and even revitalizes it."
"It appears here, around the same time that the guardian statue is destroyed, and the darkness posesses Allen-kun. At that point, you wake and break free of the darkness, fight it off, and then fall unconcious."
Kanda nods in aggreance.
"But..."
The trio turns to Allen, who is looking at the floor tiles.
"Didn't they both give you gifts." Allen looked to kanda, who glared. "What did Luna give you?"
"If I knew what it was, then I would have said so. She said it was information, but I don't feel like I know anything more or less than when this started."
A collective hum of confusion fell across the group.
"Well." Komoui stood, teetering a bit before being steadied by his sister, who was his constant companion lately. "I've got some work to catch up on."
"Nii-san!" Lenalee chided. "You can't possibly be thinking of working in your condition!"
"But Lenalee!!" he whined "I'll be sitting at my desk, and it will distract me from all of this heavy thinking!"
"They say a fresh mind is the best way to look at a problem." Allen added with a smile. "I think I'll go get some lunch!"
"Glutton." kanda snorted.
"Missed you too, Bakanda." Allen called back as he zipped from the room.
The group stared after him.
"Does he realize he's going the wrong way?" Komoui stared. Lenalee giggled.
"It's good to see that some things never change."
***

"Good morning Komoui-san!"
The head scientist looked up from his desk, which had been relocated back into his office. His sister, who was usually by his side, turned her dark eyes to the visitor as well.
"Ah, Allen-kun!" she cheered, smiling at the brown haired boy who was grinning in the doorway. "Good Morning!"
"What can I do for you Allen-kun?" Komoui smiled as well.
"Just popped in for a status report." Allen shrugged before wandering over to the plush couch and sinking into it. "Ah, Komoui-san, how's the repair on Timcanpy going?"
Komoui blinked for a second, before he turned around and started digging through a shelf behind him.
"That's right!" lenalee cried, putting a finger to her chin in thought. "Timcanpy was attacked. Wow... that feels like it happened so long ago..."
"Exacly." Allen sighed, "I've been missing him for ages. I thought that maybe the month that he was supposed to be in repair is almost up."
"You're quite right Allen-kun!" Komoui cheered as he turned around witha file in hand. He dropped the manilla folder onto his desk and flipped it open, humming as he quickly read through some of the lines.
"Aha!" he cried, pointing to one line specifically. "Well, great news! It looks like Tim's repairs should be finished tomorrow!"
Allen smiled in releif. "That's great! I can't wait to see him again!"
"I'm sure he missed you too, Allen-kun!" Lenalee smiled.
Komoui enjoyed the peace for a moment, before turning back to the mousey haired boy on the couch. "Allen-kun, is there anything else you'd like to report?"
Allen fidgeted for a moment, before quickly glancing at lenalee who was busy reorganizing a few books on the shelf behind her. Komoui nodded.
"Lenalee-chan~!" He cried. "You're brother would LOVE some of your amazing coffee!!"
"Mou, Nii-san." lenalee playfully groaned. "I guess i'll go make some... Would you like some Allen-kun?"
Allen waved a hand in dismissal while wrinkleing up his nose. "I can't stand the stuff." He laughed. "But thank you for offering."
Lenalee smiled and left the room.
"Alright Allen-kun." Komoui sighed. "Now that it's just me and you, what would you like to tell me?"
Allen figeted for a moment, playing with the edge of the gloves on his hands.
'Since when did he start wearing his gloves again...' Komoui wondered. 'In fact..' he looked the boy up and down. 'Most of him is covered....'
"Actually." Komoui was snapped out of his wondering by Allen, who had suddenly decided to speak. "It's something that I want to... show you."
"Show me?" Komoui leaned back in his chair and adjusted his glasses.
"Y-yeah..." Allen was looking anywhere but at the supervisor. "Could you... um... meet me tonight?"
"Meet you?" Komoui cocked his head.
"Yeah... um.. Meet me in the front entrance. I can show you there."
"And what, exactly, will you be showing me?" komoui demanded.
"Um... well... " Allen paused for a moment, before he gave an alarmingly innocent smile.
"You'll just have to wait and see!"
Komoui stared open-mouthed for a moment, but before he could object, lenalee opened the door, carefully carrying a tray with a cup of steaming coffee on it.
"Nii-san! I'm back!"
"A-ah, thank you Lenalee..." He stared as Allen stood, bowing, before he turned and gave a quick farewell to lenalee, and then vanished from the room.
"What did he want Nii-san?" lenalee inquired.
"Uh... just... just to tell me that..." he looked at his sister, who was looking at him curiously.
"Just to tell me that everything is fine." He sighed. Lenalee smiled brightly.
"That's great!"
She turned and began to hum as she pulled a few more books from the shelves on the walls.
"yeah." komoui muttered. "I certainly hope it is..."
***

The hallways were dark, and almost silent.
Komoui always hated walking around the order late at night. There were no loud arguments or laughter from the science department members, no finders enjoying a short stay at home, no exorcists walking through, offering a (usually) cheerful hello...
It was just too quiet for his liking.
He held his flashlight just a bit higher, illuminating further down the hallway. Even though he trusted Allen, he wasn't about to rule out the possibility of this being a trap, set by the darkness. He had spent the rest of the day in the science lab, manufacturing a flashlight that held the same lightwaves as sunlight. It was rather simple really, he just had to create a mini hand-held version of the sunlamps they were so used to using.
He turned the last corner and peered down over the railing into the main hall. He was so used to seeing it filled with coffins, that it was strange to see it so empty.
It was a depressing thought.
He adjusted the flashlight in his hand, shining the light over the room. The spotlight moved like a liquid pool, illuminating an object for a moment before moving on.
He jerked when he heard a sound to his direct right, at the top of the staircase. The bright spotlight flew through the room and settled on the grinning face of Allen Walker.
"Ah..." Komoui sighed with releif. "Allen-Kun! You startled me..."
"Sorry Komoui-san." Allen grinned, closing his eyes to the light still focused on him. "I didn't mean to."
"I-it's alright." Komoui sighed. He pulled the flashlight down to his side, lowering the beam to the floor. Obviously, if he had shown it onto Allen, then that meant the amber haired boy wasn't contaminated at the moment. "What did you want to show me?"
"Ah, It's over here!" Allen smiled, before turning and moving down the stairs, hopping lightly to keep his steps quiet.
Komoui watched hesitantly for a moment as the boy dissapeared into the darkened hall, before he moved the flashlight back infront of him and followed.
Once he reached the bottom of the stairs, he looked around, but was unable to find Allen.
"Allen-kun?" Komoui called.
"Over here!"
Komoui turned toward a loud grating noise. Liquid silver spilled in through a large hole in the wall, and komoui stared until he realized that it was moonlight. Allen had opened a door somewhere in the wall.
"What are you doing?" Komoui called, moving a bit closer. "You didn't tell me we were going outside."
"Come on!" Allen laughed. "Hurry up or you'll miss it!" He turned and slipped through the door, and into the night.
"Oi, Allen-kun!" komoui yelled, reaching after the boy. He couldn't let Allen go outside unsupervised!
He rushed through the door and looked back and forth in the pale moonlight, trying to find his charge.
"Komoui-san!"
He turned to see Allen at the edge of the woods, waving toward the supervisor.
"Allen-kun, come back here right now and explain to me what you're doing!" Komoui yelled, starting to get a little worried. Allen simply turned and dissapeared into the woods.
"ALLEN!" Komoui rushed forward, following the younger boy. He fought his way through the woods, following the occasional calls and crunching sounds coming from Allen.
And just as suddenly as he had entered the woods, he burst into a clearing. Silver moonlight painted the grass into a glistening pastel green. The orders tower grew up into the sky behind him, like an ominous shadow. And Allen was no-where to be found.
"A-Allen-kun..." komoui called into the field, inching foreward with caution. "Allen-kun, where are you...?"
He turned, sweeping his flashlight around the edge of the forest.
"Over here."
He jerked around, his light once more comming to rest on the still form of Allen Walker.
'Okay...' Komoui shivered. 'He was definitly not there a second ago...'
"Allen-kun, what are you doing?!" Komoui seethed. "Why did you drag me out here?!"
"Because I didn't want anyone to hear us." Allen shrugged as if it were completely natural.
"Hear... us..?"
"When I Kill you." Allen smiled again.
Komoui opened his mouth several times. Each time he closed it with the same conclusion. 'What do I say to that!?'
"N-n-now Allen-kun..." Komoui raised his hands in defense to the boy standing so innocently a few yards away. "Why would you have to... to kill me?"
"Because you're in my way." The boy sighed. "Every time I try to kill something, or hurt someone, you and your science lacky's come rushing in with those horrid lights and ruin all of my fun!"
"W-who are you?" Komoui glared, still standing his ground. His eyes darted around the clearing, looking for some form of escape route, or even something that would help him defend himself.
"Idiot." Allen grinned even wider. "You know me. I've been here for quite some time. In fact, ever since you helped dear Kanda-kun escape from my clutches, I've been using this boy as my play-thing. He was very upset about it at first, but I got him to shut up about it after a while..."
Komoui stared with wide eyes. Allen had been posessed for that long? And no one had noticed?!
"So... So that's why?" The older male shifted around a bit. "You're killing me because of that?"
"Well." Allen flipped a hand around in a bored manner. "Also because that annoying golden ball will be healed in a bit. What would the science department think when they saw the footage of their beloved savior ripping apart his room, and then ruthlessly attacking his little pet?"
"You... You did that?" Komoui stared.
"Yup!" Allen grinned. "Everytime this annoying little boy complained about something-" he put his hands together in mock prayre. "Oh Komoui," he wined in a high pitched voice "Something scary is happening! Oh, Lavi, I'm scared and hurt! Oh, kanda, Why is this mark on my arm!" He returned to normal with a smirk that looked horribly wicked. "The boy didn't even realize that he was doing it to himself!"
"Then... The attacks on the order?!"
"All me!" Allen grinned. "I really thought that red-head would die, and he certainly would have, if that annoyingly meek woman hadnt walking in and started screaming. Though I do have to say, the samurai has good skills. He was unconsious and still managed to hit me with his blade when I approached. Imagine how annoying it was to have to heal myself so the brat didn't start freaking out about something else!"
Komoui stared in horror. How had he not noticed? How had Allen fooled them this whole time?
'no' he ammended, 'The darkness was the one fooling everyone... but... where's Allen?'
"Are you done stalling for time?" Allen's form grinned happily. "I've been nice and answered some of your questions, but its about time we got started."
Komoui jerked back to life. He had to escape quickly! Lifting the flashlight, he shone the light right on Allen's form. The response was immediate.
"GRAAAAH!" Allen screamed, falling to the ground and covering his face. He flailed about for a moment before his body stilled while curled. Komoui looked him over, before slowly approaching, keeping the light trained on the brown haired boy.
"A-Allen-kun?" Komoui called when he was only a few feet away. Allen's head lifted.
"Just kidding!" the boy grinned happily. The image was horribly distorted by the black streaks marring his face. He jumped up, twirling around like a child, before re-focusing on Komoui.
"You're little toy doesn't work! It doesn't work!!" He cheered. "I put one of my pets into a finder a while back, for securities sake. He's been running around messing with things on the sidelines for quite some time now!"
Komoui's eyes widened. "That can't be..."
"It is!" Allen laughed. He turned and raised his left hand, grinning as it morphed into his innocence. The form was horribly distorted, covered in spikes and melting in some places, as if it couldn't make up its mind as to how it wanted to look.
"You know." Allen cocked his head. "This arm is pretty handy." He whipped it around a few times, putting gouges in some nearby trees and throwing blades of grass into the air. Komoui stepped back.
"Alright!" Allen grinned. "Let's get down to business!" He started advancing toward the science head.
Komoui jumped back, before he turned and threw the flashlight with all of his might. Allen stopped, catching the object before it collided with his face. He looked at it for a moment, before looking up to see that Komoui had escaped.
"Ho?" He grinned. "This may be more fun than I thought..."
***
Komoui rushed through the woods, keeping his eyes on the massive shadowed tower in front of him. If he could just make it to the entrance...!
He didn't even care when his beret was suddenly blown off his head by a strange force, and lodged into a tree, with a tiny silver needle sticking out.
"Komoui-saaaan!"
He jerked at the call behind him, stilling for only a moment.
"You'd better keep running!" Allen called again. "If you keep sitting there, I'll catch up~!"
The older male felt a chill run up his spine.
Toying with him. That creature was toying with him. He had to keep running, no matter what.
'What will happen to Lenalee if her Nii-san isn't there to protect her!'
He swung his arm to push another branch out of his way, ignoring the pain his body was under. He always though he should have trained a little harder. What fair was it for the supervisor, such an important person, to be a total sitting duck when times got hard? This just increased his resolve to work harder if he survived.
If.
He finally burst out of the woods, right in front of Alestina, the gate guardian.
"Alestina!" he cried, rushing to the door. "Let me in!"
The giant was silent for a moment, before it grumbled.
"No."
Komoui's eyes widened, and he glanced back to the woods, where he heard the snaping and breaking of branches.
"WHY NOT!?" Komoui pushed. "I'm the supervisor! You're supposed to listen to what I say, and I said let me in!"
A golem fluttered up to the man, and quietly projected a screen. It was his office.
It was him.
A soft gasp alerted him to the other person in the frame.
'Lenalee...'
"Nii-san!" the voice crackled over the golem's speaker. "Why does that person look like you?!"
Komoui's look-alike grinned from his seat, ('at MY desk!' Komoui fumed) before putting on a stern face.
"It must be a trap from the darkness." He said. "We'll have to make sure we lock everything up tight tonight." He turned and put a hand over his sisters. "Don't worry, I'll keep everyone safe."
"NO!" Komoui screamed, eyes trapped on the picture screen. "Lenalee don't listen to him! He's not your Nii-san!"
Lenalee looked torn for a moment, and the fake komoui glared.
"Don't listen, Lenalee." it said. "How about you go get your brother some wonderful coffee and we just turn this off..."
Komoui stared in horror as his sister nodded, still looking a little confused, and the fake at his desk leaned up and reached a hand toward the screen. At the last moment, he grinned.
"Nice try."
And the monitor dissapeared.
"Do you understand now?" Komoui whipped around, comming face to face with Allen, who was standing on the edge of the woods. The silver light of the moon reflected off his brown hair, almost making him look back to normal. "There's no hope for you. I've covered all of the bases. When they find your body in the morning, they'll understand the mistake they've made, and be so focused on finding the fake that they wont realize that he's right under their noses!"
"You're a monster!" Komoui growled, ignoring the hot tears on his face. How could his sister, his own flesh and blood, betray him like that!
'no...' he shook his head. 'She couldn't have known...'
"So?" Allen sighed, moving foreward again. "Are you ready now? I'd like to finish this by dawn..."
Komoui took off running before he could even finish.
Allen sighed as he watched the man rush away from the order's tower.
"Well..." he said to himself. "At least I know where he's heading. There is only one thing in that direction..."

Komoui ran faster than he ever remembered running. He just had to find some place to hide. If he could wait it out for a while, then some one would HAVE to realize that it was a fake in the office, and not him, and then they would come help him!
Right?
For now, he would head to the other side of the woods, and enter back into them. There were some cave systems around there that might help him extend his time.
He was about to round the edge of the woods when he skidded to a halt. In front of him, was Allen.
"I told you it wasn't of any use, Komoui-san." He grinned, approaching the older boy. "You will not escape me this time."
The science head turned to run once again, but jerked to a halt. A few feet away were the sheer cliffs that surrounded the order. (for my sake, i'm considering this to be the order BEFORE the move. I totally forgot to mention that. So it's still the leaning tower of piza on a giant cliff. sweatdrop )
A few stones fell from the egde of the earth and dissapeared over the side, klacking for what seemed like ever. The clouds surrounded the base.
It really seemed like there was no bottom.
"You can do one of two things, Komoui-san." Allen grinned. He took a step forward, and komoui edged back a little more, comming dangerously close to the edge. "You can come over to me, and face your death like a man, or you can jump from this cliff, and hope that fear stops your heart before the jagged rocks do. It's really your choice."
'Some choice!' Komoui paniced. He looked between Allen, and then peered over the edge behind him. Allen laughed.
"I can assure you that both methods will be painful, Komoui-san. So just save us a little trouble and choose quickly."
Komoui shifted again, moving ever closer to the edge. Could he run around and escape? Allen was right in front of him, and getting closer ever so slowly. He would be caught after 3 steps. What could he do... what could he DO!?
A crack was the only clue he received. Both parties looked down at the large crack forming in an arch around where Komoui stood. The earth was splitting from its perch. Komoui paniced and took a step, but the earth gave out first. The science head slid as the rock fell in space, and both perished into the clouds.
Allen cocked his head, looking curiously at the almost perfectly round cut in the earth, which was now the only clue that stone had been there in the first place. It was as if an invisable giant had bitten a chunk out of the cliff.
"Well." Allen sniffed, peering over the edge at the milky clouds below. "I guess fate chose for you."
"I don't beleive in Fate."
Allen's torso jerked foreward. The boy's head lulled backward as he tried to regain control of his suddenly numb body. He could tell that his feet weren't touching the ground, as his legs dangled uselessly. Warmth spread from the point in his chest that held him up, and he felt it slide down his body in thick lines. Mustering his strength, he leaned his head foreward to stare at the curved silver blade extending from his sternum. Blood shone on the weapon like a black tribal design, and expanded on his clothing. His hands shakily raised, gently fingering the cold steel of the weapon penetrating his chest. He opened his mouth, but the only sounds that came out were strangled gasps and chokes as a thin line of blood flowed from the corner of his lips and down his chin.
As quickly as it appeared, the blade was ripped from his body, and he toppled to the ground. The blood flow from his chest increased, and he could feel it move with each weakening pump of his heart. He stared at the dark sky above until a face leaned over him. Red hair fell in a curtain and green eyes shone brightly, even in the dark.
"Fate is only what you make of it." The girl said quietly. Allen watched her red lips move, unable to focus completely.
"You've done well." She sighed, "But now it is our turn. Rest."
Amber eyes blinked slowly up at the girl. They shone in the moonlight, like liquid pools. Silver tears leaked onto his cheeks as he shakily raised a hand toward the girl. Without hesitation, she reached out and held it.
"I know." She soothed. "The darkness has left you, now that your body is in such pain. It is not a creature to have sympathy for it's host. But soon it will be over. Close your eyes..."
She reached a hand down and placed them over the boys eyes. He whimpered softly.
"Go to sleep." She whispered. "I promise that you will wake again."
"Luna!"
The red head turned to see another form in a black robe. She stood with the science head, who was staring in shock.
"Allen-kun!" he cried, rushing over and skidding to his knees. He grabbed the young boys hand. Allen's body jerked as he coughed harshly, sending flecks of blood into the air.
"...moui...sa..." the boy whimpered, his breath comming in rapid gasps.
"Shhh, Allen-kun.." komoui soothed, brushing the boy's hair. "Don't try to talk. We'll take you inside and get you stitched up okay?"
Allen blinked harshly, sending more tears down his face. Despite his words, Komoui only bit his lip and held the boys hand more tightly.
The other dark cloaked figure pulled their hood down to reveal a young blonde, who's crystal blue eyes filled with saddness.
"Luna... how long..."
"Not much longer." the red head sighed. The blonde bit her lip and turned away, eyes shimmering.
"Mui!" Allen gasped, his body jerking and twitching.
"Allen, don't try to move"! Komoui said softly, using a hand to hold the boy still. Allen stopped struggling and turned his amber eyes to the science head.
"m'scared."
Komoui desperatly tried to smile through the tears sliding down his face and soaking the ground beneith him, mingleing with the ever growing pool of blood.
"There's no need to be scared Allen-kun." He soothed, trying to hide the tremors in his voice. "We'll take you inside, and get you fixed right up, and then you can rest for a long time, and when you wake up, we'll all be right their waiting for you, and we can go have a big meal..."
Allen sighed, his eyes drooping as his breathing became even more shallow.
"go..na... die..." Allen whimpered. His eyes filled with more tears that washed flowed down his cheeks, washing away some of the blood.
"It will be alright." Komoui said, trying to keep his sobs from hindering his comforting words. "It will be Okay. You'll wake up soon, you'll see."
Allen barely moved his head, but it was an obvious shake, denying Komoui's words. He closed his eyes and gave a shuddering breath.
"It will be okay." Komoui repeated, as if trying to reassure himself. Allen opened his eyes again, and amber eyes shimmered toward the science head. A soft smile covered Allen's lips, before the boy shuddered one last time, and his body sank to the ground.
"A-Allen-kun?" Komoui sobbed, hugging the hand that had gone limp in his grasp.
The blonde looked away with a small sniffle as the red head reached over and gently shut the boys eyes.
"He's gone." She said softly. She stood and stepped back as Komoui gathered the lifeless boy's body into his arms, carrying him like a broken rag-doll.
"This was neccissary." the blonde said, reinforcing herself. Komoui only sniffed and hugged the boy closer to his body, uncaring of the gore staining his jacket.
The red hed turned toward the order, staring up at the tower.
"And now." She said, turning back to the others. "We must wait for the dawn."
