Pieces of the Heart
Stories of the soul
Part 19.

The doors of the order burst open.
"Nii-san!" lenalee cried, rushing down the stairs into the main hall. Most of the science department was behind her, being awakened by the girl once she discovered that her brother was outside, and a fake had infiltrated their home. Now, in the crowding halls of the main entrance, the order stared in silence at the two mysterious figures accompanying komoui into the building. In his arms was the deceased Allen Walker.
Lenalee rushed forward, staring at her brother with tears in her eyes. She looked in horror between the blood on his clothes and the still form in his custody.
"Al-...wha... Nii-san... why!?" She cried, more toward the world than her brother. Her shaking hands carefully reached toward her friends still body, brushing away strands of brown hair darkened from dirt and blood. However, the thin lids covering those honey amber eyes didn't even flutter.
"Allen.." she whispered, her voice cracking as tears streamed down her face. "Nii-san... what happened...?"
"He died." The science head croaked. She looked up to her brother, matching eyes connecting. He stared back, sadness leaking from his very core.
"What's going on?"
The group turned to see Lavi, standing with a hand on the banister above, looking to the scene below.
"Lavi..." lenalee said softly, more tears erupting at the name.
"What... what happened?" He stared in disbelief. He had gone into his room to rest for a moment and then... "Is that... Allen?"
"Lavi." Komoui sounded so tired. "Go back to your room-"
"NO!"
The group loitering in the hall was startled by the outburst. Lavi leaned over, gripping the banister.
"Why? Why should i go back!?" He cried. "Allen... Allen DIED and I... " He stopped.
Lenalee watched from below. He gripped a fist, pulling it up toward his chest as he clenched his eyes and turned away.
"I..." he ground out. "I need to... record this..."
Lenalee gasped, staring wide eyed at her friend.
"What do you mean 'record this'?!" She snapped at lavi, who was slowly making his way around to the staircase, keeping his eyes anywhere but on his friends. "How DARE you talk that way about Allen!! You should be ashamed-"
"Lenalee." Komoui snapped behind her. She faultered, then turned to face her brother with a pitiful glare.
"Nii-san..." she whispered. "Don't let him... Allen..."
"Step aside Lenalee".
She turned back to lavi, who was standing before her, his eyes hidden.
"Lavi... please..." She whispered.
"You should step aside."
The group turned to the red head, who had finally decided to speak.
"He is a bookman, right? He's not allowed to mourn. Recording is his life."
Lenalee's mouth opened and closed like a fish, before she closed her eyes and turned away, taking a few steps. Lavi moved forward. He looked to the red-headed girl, and gave her a grateful nod. He received a cold glare in return.
Unshaken, even by anger from a stranger, he turned to Allen. Komoui knelt to the floor and laid the boy upon it. Lavi knelt beside him. He reached forward, gently tracing the pentacle on the still boy's head all the way down to his chin. He leaned forward, as if looking closely at the body.
"Bye bye, Moyashi-chan...."He whispered inaudibly. Closing his eyes, he leaned back and took one last look at the boy who had changed his life. Then he stood and turned away, walking back toward the stairs.
"That's it?" lenalee snarled. "You're just going to LOOK at him?!"
"Lenalee.." komoui soothed.
"No!" she cried, falling to the floor. "No! no, no, no! This wasn't supposed to happen!"
Upstairs, Lavi turned into a new corridor, he gently wiping away the hidden tears from his face as he listened to lenalee crying with all her heart for the boy they had lost.

***

"So." Kanda stared at the white cloth covering his body. "Moyashi... died, huh?"
Lavi, who was sitting next to his bed in the hospital wing, stayed silent, eyes cast at the tiled floor.
Kanda turned his face up toward the ceiling, eyes tracing the florescent lighting.
"Lucky idiot."
Lavi looked up to see the back of Kanda's head. The boy was pointedly looking away from him. With a soft smile, he stood to leave.
"Now you know how I feel..." lavi whispered. "When I found your sword in that box."
He walked toward the doors which swung closed behind him.
"It must be raining..." kanda mumbled, head still turned away.

Komoui stared at the two girls upon his couch. Sure, he had seen their forms there several times... but this was the first time...
"Just to be sure." he pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose with the hand that wasn't being bandaged by Reevers. "You're actually here?"
"Yes." the red-head sighed. "Just like I said the last three times you asked."
The supervisor breathed deeply. It felt like he just wasn't breathing enough lately. He looked to the folder on his desk.
"Allen-kun's body has been moved into the room I requested... but really, such high security?"
"It must be done." The blond answered. "For everyone's safety."
"But why?" Reevers asked. "Allen kun is... is... "
"Not dead quite yet."
The pair turned to the red-head, eyes wide.
"But." Komoui stuttered. "His pulse.. and his heart..."
"Oh, he's physically dead." The girl answered with a nod.
"That's the kind of dead I think we're talking about..." Komoui muttered.
"There's another kind of 'dead'?" Reevers muttered back.
"There are many types of death." The girl replied. "But, before I get into all of the irritating detail type stuff, shall we have some introductions?"
"Oh." Komoui sputtered momentarily. "I thought... you already knew all of us..."
"Not for you." the red-head sighed. "I meant for-"
The group was interrupted by the slam of the large oak doors to the office flying open with such force, that one of them creaked and sagged slightly.
In the doorway stood an absolutely irate Leverieller, surrounded by bustling CROW members, and flanked by Howard Link.
"Inspector!" Komoui cried, standing behind his desk. Reevers next to him blinked in shock.
"I've already given you a warning Lee." Leverieller growled. "I gave you chances and chances, and have been NOTHING but patient, yet I return to find one of my exorcists is DEAD!?"
"Not necessarily dead per say..." the red-head began.
"YOU!" he pointed to the girl. "WHO gave you the right to speak!? Your superiors are having a conversation! Leave NOW!"
"INSPECTOR" Komoui hissed, "These girls are NOT-"
"No, no." luna smiled, interrupting the science head. "I'd like to hear what he has to say."
"What pathetic new recruits." the man sniffed, leering at the girls in disgust. "I assume your innocence is something weak and feminine?"
"What on earth would give you that idea?" the blond, who had mostly been silent, peeped up.
"Because all women in this program are weak and pathetic!" Leverieller spat. "Though most of the men aren't any better."
"What about you inspector?" Luna asked with a smile. "What is your ability?"
Leverieller looked dumbfounded for an instant, as the CROW behind him restlessly shuffled about. They were looking at each other, and then to the girls in front of them, seeming to communicate.
"I don't need some foolish powers." Leverieller growled, feeling rather proud of himself for thinking up an answer. "I hold the power of authority. It's stronger than any found in this god-forsaken place."
"Inspector..." komoui growled.
"No." The inspector turned to the science head. "That's enough from you Mr. Lee. You are henceforth removed from your post."
Komoui stared in horror as Leverieller grinned in glee. Next to him, Reevers gasped like a fish.
"CROW." Leverieller snapped his fingers, ordering the cloaked figures to respond. "Take him to the permanent holding cells. He knows too much for us to simply... release him... "
The room remained silent and tense, as the CROW stayed in place.
"CROW!" the inspector growled again. Once more the cloaked figures remained still.
"LISTEN TO MY ORDERS!" Leverieller bellowed.
"It's a conflict of interest." the red head yawned, standing from the couch. "CROW only respond to the highest ranking officer in the room."
"And how do you know this?!" Leverieller snapped.
"Simple." the red head grinned once more. "CROW, kneel."
In a rustle of cloth, just barely loud enough to be heard, the hooded figures, as well as Howard Link, dropped to the ground before the red-head, who smirked at the shocked inspector.
"W-Wha.." he backed up a step.
"Well inspector." Komoui grinned shakily, "It looks like you've been out-ranked..."
"WHO the HELL are YOU!?" Leverieller shouted, pointing a shaky finger at the red-head, who was now being flanked by her blond counterpart.
"WE are messengers from the pope himself." The girl responded.
"We've come to bring light." The blond peeped up from behind once more.
"Light..." leverieller mumbled. "light!? You must be in on those crazy experiments!! he shouted, pointing between the girls and komoui. "All of this is some crazy conspiracy! Komoui Lee, you had better say goodbye to your LIFE!" The crazed man reached behind him and grabbed a gun from his belt, swinging it around to face the science head.
Komoui stared in horror, body unable to move while facing the ominous barrel of the gun. He was suddenly pulled aside by Reevers, who reacted in a split second to drag the supervisor under his desk.
However, all action was deemed unnecessary at the sickening crack that echoed through the room.
The two science heads peeked above the desk to see luna holding the leg of a chair, the rest of the sitting item lay strewn across leverieller's prone form on the ground.
"LUNA!" shrieked the blond from behind.
"What?!" the Red-head replied, in what komoui was shocked to label an almost-whine, as if this occurred regularly.
"Did you HAVE to hit him with a chair!?"
"He had a GUN, Alte! a GUN. dangerous! bang bang!"
"Don't you get smart with me!" the blond snapped, earning a wince from the red-head. "I TOLD you not to go crazy right of the bat! how do you expect to make friends if you keep hitting people with CHAIRS!?"
"Well I obviously wasn't going to make friends with him!" the red-head swept her hands toward the man on the floor, as if he were something the cat had dragged in.
"That doesn't make it OKAY!" the blond sighed in exhasperation. "You told me you wanted to make friends!"
"Yeah, with NON CRAZY people! Besides, he's OLD, and the mustache makes him look like HITLER!"
Komoui was shocked to see some of the CROW on the ground shaking with laughter. Though he had to admit, this was rather interesting...
"Now that's not nice at ALL." the blond frowned, putting her hands on her hips.
'Alright, alright." the red-head sighed, raising her hands in defeat. "I'll appologize about the chair once he wakes up."
"a ha ha..." Reever's sighed with relief.
Luna sighed and sent a sweeping motion with her hands toward the CROW. The cloaked figures grabbed the unconscious inspector by the arms, and slowly dragged him from the room, followed by a silent Howard Link.
"ahh, where were we..." the red-head sighed, dropping the chair leg onto the pile of chair on the floor, and turning to flop back onto the couch.
"I believe we were at introductions... " Komoui sighed, wondering if he was ever going to get anywhere with this conversation.
"Ah, right." Luna chimed. "Well as you know, I am Luna, and this," she motioned to the blond, "Is Alteara, my partner."
"Partner?" Reevers blurted out. He quickly blushed at his outburst. The two girls looked at each other and laughed.
"As in, where I go, she goes." Luna motioned between them. "And where she goes, I go. Our decisions are made in mutual interest, and only if the two of us come to the same conclusion."
"But how does that work?" komoui blinked. "What if the two of you disagree?"
"When it comes to an important matter..." the red head stared.
'We just don't." the blond finished. "We've never disagreed where it really counted."
"Smaller things are fine." luna added. "everyone has their own preferences. But we've both experienced enough of the world to know how to react to any situation."
Komoui nodded in understanding.
"What i'd like to know," Reevers added, feeling a bit braver, "Is how you managed to order the CROW around. You said they only followed orders of the highest ranking officer in a room..."
The smiles fell from the girls faces, as they glanced at each other. With a sigh, luna stood, and moved in front of the science office desk, as komoui watched with hesitance.
"Komoui Lee." she announced with a sudden air of serious authority, "I am known by many things. Luna, Black moon Luna, Black diamond, Raven, and Experiment NO. 5862-R. However, my most current and relevant name is Zero-1."
Komoui's eyes widened. He leaned back in his desk, as if the girl in front of him had just morphed into some form of hideous creature. Reevers watched in confusion.
"Komoui Lee." the blond stood as well, moving next to Luna. "I am known by many things. Alteara, Golden sun Alteara, Falcon of the skies, White Diamond Alteara, and Experiment NO. 2583-F. However, my most current and relevant name is Zero-2."
Reevers stared in shock as Komoui jumped up from his chair, practically ran around his desk and dropped to the floor in front of the two girls.
"Please..." he said quietly, facing the ground "forgive my impudence..!"
"We have arrived from the Vatican," Luna continued. "because of reports of an exorcist contaminated by darkness."
"We are here," Alteara spoke, "to rid this headquarters of the threat of darkness."
The two girls were silent for a moment. Komoui glanced upward. Their serious faces stared down at him, and he could feel himself start to shake.
"We have also been asked," luna began again, more quietly, "To evaluate the head supervisor, Mr. Komoui Lee, and determine whether he is fit to continue his duties as head supervisor."
Komoui gasped a shaky breath, before turning his head back to the floor. Reevers watched his fists clench against the ground.
"And..." the supervisor's voice shook, "If I am no longer fit for my post...?"
"Execution." Luna's face remained stony. "No exceptions."
Komoui flinched, as if struck across the back with a whip.
"I must go now." luna sighed, looking to the doors. "It is unsafe to leave Walker unguarded much longer."
With a few silent steps, she pulled the door open with a loud creak, and closed it behind her. The soft bang was almost deafening to komoui's ears, as he remained in his place.
A gentle hand landed on one of his shaking shoulders. He looked up right into the crystal blue eyes of Alteara.
"Please." the blond said with a soft smile. "Stand up. Do not be afraid." and she offered him a hand.
Komoui took it with a shaky smile of his own, and a small thanks.
"Okay." Reevers sighed, holding up his hands, "I'm SO lost."
The blond giggled lightly, as komoui simply sighed.
"It's a little hard to explain Reevers..." komoui shrugged.
"Well... dumb it down for me will you?" The blond man growled.
"ahhh..." komoui twiddled with his fingers a bit. "Basically... these two girls are the creators of the Order itself... higher in position than his lordship the pope... and... there's a pretty good chance that i'm going to be executed. a ha ha..." he scratched the back of his neck nervously.
"..." Reevers stared. "Okay... maybe make it a TINY bit more detailed, because... well.. WHAT!?"
"You sound so certain." the blond giggled. "Luna isn't some cold hearted executioner. Why do you think that your fate is already certain?"
Komoui shrugged. "I haven't been doing that well of a job lately now have I? One exorcist is dead... another is out of action, and the two available exorcists that i have have been here for ages, while several of my other exorcists haven't had the chance to return home in months... "
"Why is Luna deciding on this?" Reevers asked. "You said these girls... created the order?"
"Not the very first one." the blond answered. "But this version, yes."
"But that would mean you're... you must be hundreds of years old!?"
"Ah, you caught me." alteara stuck out her tongue playfully. I'm 469 years old. I'll be 470 in december~. Luna turned 632 last January."
"WHAAAAAT?!" Reevers cried. Komoui was surprisingly quiet, which reevers noticed. "Komoui... did you know?!"
"Each head supervisor is given a classified file on their first day." Komoui explained. "It talks about the true background of the order. The 'immortal exorcists'."
"Immortal..." Reevers breathed.
"They are exorcists who worked for the origional order. Experimental humans with the power of the gods..."
"You overestimate us." Alteara sighed. "People only said that because they were afraid..."
"Afraid of what?" the blond man asked.
Alteara looked to the floor. "They were afraid of what they couldn't understand."
The room grew silent with contemplation.
"Ah, Komoui-san." Alteara snapped out of her thought. "About your inspection."
The head supervisor suddenly looked forlorn.
'ahaha... he's given up already...' the blond thought.
"Luna will come back, and tell you that both of us are performing the inspection. However Luna has a prior appointment that she must attend to first. She's leaving for a few days, and those days will be your chance to change things for the better around here. I'm not really participating in the inspection, even though Luna will insist that I am." the blond winked as the supervisor stared incredulously.
"Why are you telling me this?" Komoui asked.
"Because." the blond replied. "I don't believe you're a bad person."
A soft knock at the door interrupted the group. Luna pulled open the heavy oak doors, and entered silently.
"Komoui Lee-san." She stood in front of the inspector.
"Please, just Komoui." He responded. Luna nodded.
"Komoui-san, As of tomorrow, Alteara will begin her inspection of headquarters." The red head apparently missed the encouraging look Alteara sent to the supervisor. "Three days from now, I will begin my own inspection. Three days after that, we will decide on your condition. Subsequently, we will also begin the treatment of Allen Walker."
"T-treatment?" Komoui and Reevers stared in shock.
"Yes." Luna nodded. "Allen Walker will be revived before the end of the month." A soft smile graced her lips, which sent Komoui and Reevers into cheers.
"But be careful." Luna growled, stopping their joy at once. "Your actions over the next week will decide whether or not you will be alive to greet him..."
With a turn, the red-head glided out of the office, leaving a stunned Komoui behind. Alteara spun with a smile.
"Don't worry." she cheered. "She's just doing her job. You've got 3 days to get ready. But i suggest you just act natural. Luna will know if you set up any elaborate schemes or something." The blond shrugged with a giggle, and followed the path her companion took out of the room.
Komoui stared after them, before walking to his chair, and falling into it.
"I can't believe it..." he sighed, pulling his beret from his hair, and running a hand through it.
"You'll be okay Komoui." Reevers tried to grin at the man. "You're the best supervisor there is!"
Komoui stared hard at his desk.
"I can only pray."
***

"Alteara, are you ready?" Luna smiled to her companion. It was barely visible in the darkened hallway they were occupying, but the blond smiled back none-the-less.
"Certainly."
"Remember..." the red head continued. "Just give the signal..."
"I'll be fine!" the blond insisted. "I doubt they'd be dumb enough to do something harmful to me. And I know how to take care of myself..." she pouted.
Luna laughed lightly. "Alright, alright. Go ahead then."
The blond nodded with a serious face. She closed her eyes.
"Innocence..." she whispered into the hallway. The word floated into the air like a white wisp, floating over to the red head before it expanded and solidified into a glowing white shroud, encasing her friend. It molded and shifted before shrinking and shrinking. When it reached around the size of a golf ball, it stopped shrinking, and protrusions appeared from its back. Once the light died down, a little black golem, complete with feathery black wings and a long black tail, fluttered in place. A single red eye in it's center flashed in the remaining light.
The blond exhaled deeply, before smiling at her friend. She cupped out her hands as if holding water.
"Come here..." she cooed. The golem fluttered in slight annoyance, before drifting over to the tips of her fingers and settling on small black digit like feet. The blond giggled, before moving the golem up to her head, and tipping it into her hair. It wiggled around for a moment, turning in place, before settling just above her bangs.
"Now don't cause trouble." The blond giggled. A sharp tug caused her to yelp.
"Don't pull my hair luna!" She whined. Another sharp tug resulted in another yelp.
"Whaaaaat!?" the blond cried. There was silence for a moment, as she stared up to her friend on her head.
"... ooooh!" the blond sighed. "I need to think up a new name for you!"
The little golem nodded into the girls hair.
"Hmm..." she crossed her arms. "I guess i could try to call you... er... um... f-fuzzy?"
A sharp tug signaled no. (and caused the girl to yelp again.)
"Um... midnight?"
Tug.
"Fluffy?"
Sharp tug.
"OW! uh.. um... golem...y...OW! uh... uh... uh... yoru!?"
The girl flinched, but the tug never came.
"Y-you like Yoru?"
The little golem flapped it's wings happily.
"Phew." the blond sighed, thanking whatever deities that her hair would remain attached to her head for another day.
"Well... shall we... uh..." the blond looked from side to side. She started walking to the left, before stopping after only a few steps and turning around, looking behind her nervously.
"Which way...." she laughed. The little golem on her head flapped to get her attention, and pointed in front of them with a little black wing.
"Oh." the blond grinned. "I knew that." and she turned and walked down the hall.

Kanda stirred from his sleep with the distinct feeling that someone was staring at him. He slowly blinked open sapphire orbs, flinching at the bright ceiling lights of the hospital wing. He momentarily wondered why everything felt like it was floating, or moving in slow motion. He had been much more alert earlier, so why was he so dead tired now?
Ah... that's right.
Moyashi died.
He stared at the florescent lighting some more. His mind quickly emptied itself of all thoughts, as if avoiding the subject of moyashi's death. But that was ridiculous. Yuu Kanda did not avoid anything.

Just to spite his mind, Kanda tried to focus on the evading thoughts. Moyashi had died. He was no longer here. Kanda would never again argue with the sprout, or grind out insults about his old man hair. No one would walk around calling him "bakanda" anymore. He felt a tiny pang at that. No more spur of the moment arguments. Who would challenge him now.
Kanda's thoughts swirled around a bit, and he suddenly realized his eyes were drooping. Determined to stay awake, the samurai tried to sit up. After several failed attempts, he admitted defeat. He was stuck.
"Having trouble Yuu-chan?"
The samurai's eyes flicked to the left, pinpointing the annoying voice that he did NOT want to hear. He growled when Lavi smiled at him.
"What do you want." kanda growled. He was surprised when something closer to "whaouwan" came out of his mouth. He blinked for a moment, eyes widening at the boy next to him.
"Easy yuu-chan." Lavi grinned. "That's just the sedative."
Kanda sent him a piercing look meaning, 'what sedative!?' The red head laughed. Then, to kanda's horror, the boy pulled out a rather large kitchen knife.
"I'm just going to play a little game with ya, Yuu-chan!" Lavi grinned, holding the gleaming object above the samurai, who stared in shock. "It's called... How many holes will fit in Yuu-chan before he croaks!!" the boy scratched his cheek with a sheepish smile. "I know the name is kinda lame, but by the time i think up a new one, it wont matter anymore!"
Kanda, who by this point was seething on the bed, struggled to get away from the crazed red-head. Obviously the boy had cracked. He needed to defend himself. Maybe kill the rabbit. At least tell someone. However, his movements were getting more and more sluggish as his mind swirled some more. He felt like he was loosing control of his mind as the drug seeped through his system. Suddenly it was Allen standing above him, laughing with his shining smile, white hair dazzling again. Kanda had forgotten how bright his white hair was.
"You alright Yuu-chan?" Allen grinned with Lavi's voice. That was a rather strange sight....
A light tap on the face brought kanda back from the brink of unconsciousness.
"Can't have ya blacking out right before we play, yeah?" the boy laughed. Kanda stared as the knife raised in the air.
"Bye bye." Lavi spoke.
The knife flew down like a flash of lighting, and pain seared across Kanda's mind.

The shrill cry of a cardiac machine was the only sound to be heard above the sudden panic in the medical ward. Nurses were yelling back and forth over the cries of their patient, who thrashed on his bed. The main chrome doors smashed open and Komoui rushed in, followed closely by Reevers.
"KOMOUI-SAN!" one of the nurses broke of from the pack with a cry of relief. The supervisor moved beside her quickly.
"What's happening?!" he cried, moving to the bed side of the screaming patient. Kanda was writhing on the bed, his hands ripping at his clothing, the sheets, and anyone who got too close for too long. As komoui approached, the dark haired boy yelled out again, grabbing at his chest. His back strained as he arched off the bed, trying desperately to evade the slice of his invisible enemy.
"He suddenly began screaming." the little blond nurse besides komoui explained. "He was sleeping soundly one moment, and completely panicking the next. We can't get him to wake up. Whatever he's dreaming about is putting extreme stress on his body and heart. He can't take much more of this before there will be irreparable damage!"
Komoui watched in horror as Kanda lashed out again, striking a nurse who was trying to take a blood sample. The small woman fell to the ground with a smash, toppling the tray next to her and sending supplies skittering across the floor.
"Kanda-sama!" Another nurse cried as she grabbed one of his arms, trying to keep him from damaging anything further. Kanda retreated from the touch as if she were burning him, crying out as he wrenched his arm from her grasp and flung it back to smack the poor woman in the shoulder, sending her into the wall with a small cry.
"Enough!" komoui called over the confusion. "Don't touch him! Everyone back away!"
The nurses looked startled for a moment, before slowly and hesitantly backing away from kanda's bed. The boy continued to thrash and yell himself hoarse. Komoui quickly stalked past the bed and to his make-shift desk in the corner. The papers were scattered around, but he looked them over, grabbing for the cloth covering a small object in the very corner. With a quick tug, the hourglass was revealed. Komoui picked it up and looked it over. It was still in pristine condition. Only 4 petals were still in the bottom. Carefully sitting it back on the table, he rushed back over to kanda's bedside.
"Kanda-kun!" He called, grabbing kanda's shoulders and trying to shake the boy. He quickly earned himself a punch to the face. His glasses flew off and clattered to the floor. Ignoring the piercing pain in his nose, which was probably shattered, he leaned in again. He placed one hand firmly over Kanda's mouth, and the other over his nose, cutting of his air. Kanda immediately began to struggle fiercely, hands snapping up around komoui's wrists.
"Hold him!" Komoui snapped to Reevers, who rushed forward and grabbed the boys arms, trying to pry them away from the supervisor.
Kanda struggled a bit more, but it was quickly becoming weaker with the lack of oxygen. After a few moments, sapphire eye's snapped open, pale hands released, and in a synchronized movement, Komoui and Reever's jumped back and out of arm's reach. Kanda shot up, hands flying to his face as he coughed and sputtered. Once he had enough air to breathe again, he reached down to his chest, patting his hands over muscled skin and tattered clothing. His black turtleneck was ruined.
The crowd watched curiously as the boy examined his hands, as if looking for something, and then went back to his chest, as if the first once over had been a lie.
"Kanda-kun?" Komoui called out meekly. The dark haired boy's head whipped over toward Komoui, staring in amazement. His mouth opened as if to say something, but his voice was lost in his throat. Komoui edged foreward, extending a hand. When he reached the bed, he reached to put it on Kanda's shoulder, but faltered as sapphire eyes glared holes into the offending limb, as if it were a shark.
"Are you alright, Kanda-kun?" Komoui asked softly.
Kanda nodded lightly, his eyes sinking down to the bed in front of him. He stared at the torn sheets, and then looked back at his chest, as if still dis-believing his eyes.
"Kanda-sama..." one of the nurses whispered, inching forward with a role of gauze. Kanda glanced down at the long scratches on his arms, before returning his cold stare to the nurse. She stopped, understanding that he didn't want her to approach.
"Let me." komoui said softly, extending his hand for the gauze. The nurse walked over and handed it to him, before retreating. Reever's took a cue from komoui and began ushering the nurses away from the suddenly silent Kanda.
Once the area was remotely empty, Komoui sighed, placing the gauze on the side table. He knew that the wounds were so shallow that they would be healed before dinner. There was no reason to get overly upset over them. In fact, most of them had already scabbed over. Instead, he turned to kanda, who was still staring in confusion at his chest.
"Kanda." komoui said, a silent order to explain.
"A dream." kanda replied softly. "I had a dream that I was... being killed."
Komoui blinked in surprise. It wasn't uncommon for exorcists to have nightmares. In fact, he had no idea how any of them slept at all now-a-days. But to have one of this magnitude.
"Lavi tried to kill me."
Komoui's attention shot back to kanda, who was hiding behind his bangs. "At least I think it was. I was drugged, and everything was fuzzy. It might have been Allen..."
"Kanda..." komoui sighed. This was too much. His best remaining exorcist was loosing it. "Kanda-kun... I think it's time you took a vacation."
The dark haired boy's head snapped around, staring at the supervisor with wide eyes.
"Vacation!? Are you insane!? We don't get vacations Komoui! We're exorcists."
"That's not what I meant Kanda." komoui corrected. "Not a physical vacation. Just a mental one. You've been through way too much in the past month, and it can't be good for your mind... I've got some pills that will help you sleep without dreaming and-"
"You want to medicate me into a zombie." kanda growled.
"Not into a zombie kanda-kun, just so that you can relax-"
"You want to drug me into a mindless mess!? You think i'll walk around like some sort of mental patient?!"
"It's for your health-!"
"I'm not so WEAK as to need to be MEDICATED-"
"kanda will you just listen to me-"
"I WON'T DIE LIKE THAT USELESS MOYASHI!"
The words rang across the stunned silence of the medical ward. Kanda seemed stunned by what had just escaped his mouth. But he wouldn't regret it. He steeled his face, firming his resolve. He kept his eyes down, waiting for Komoui to yell, or hit him, or do SOMETHING.
Instead, another voice popped up.
"You haven't told him yet?"
Kanda turned to glare at the intruder, only to be surprised by the blond haired girl from his dream. She watched with glistening blue eyes, a little black golem settled in her hair. After a moment, he caught up with his thoughts.
"Told me what?" he growled, eyes darting from her to komoui.
Komoui stared back with saddened eyes, before smiling a bit.
"Luna and Alteara have arrived." he said lightly, unable to hide the underlying sadness. "They have offered to save Allen-kun. He will be back to normal soon."
Kanda stared.
"Back... to normal?"
"That's right." the blond smiled.
Kanda glared.
"You're fools." he snapped. "You can't revive the dead."
"And if he's not dead?" the girl replied.
"Impossible." Kanda snapped.
"Have you seen his body?" She continued to smile.
Kanda faultered. True though it was that Lavi had informed him of allen's death, he had never thought to question the bookman jr. But if his dream was anything to go by...
"Let me see the body." Kanda snapped at Komoui.
"Take the medication for 1 day." komoui snapped back, as if waiting for his moment. Kanda's face soured.
"Half a day." he argued.
"The whole day or nothing." komoui argued back. Kanda growled, but receaded.
"FINE!" he snapped, sinking into his bed with the faintest trace of a pout. The blond at the side giggled, before turning and leaving the room.
Komoui watched her leave, feeling slightly un-nerved. He had just convinced one of his exorcists to take a drug that would make him useless for 24 hours... Even though the blond wasn't examining him this week... or at least she said she wasn't, was this a smart move? Would Luna hear of this? Would his decision's cost him?
