A cruel destiny awaits Greed for following his most basic desires. On seldom occasions can one find this homunculus out of his favorite pub, "The Devil's Nest". From this underground lair, he commands his small band of mercenary chimeras. These outcasts from society seem to be the only allies Greed has left, as not even his other Homunculi brethren want him. Greed only cares for the finer things in life such as: money, women, status, full immortality, and nothing short of ruling the entire world seems to top his list. Its these selfish ideals that put him in direct opposite from his creator, Father. Because of their differences, about a century before the beginning of the series Greed betrayed his maker and ran away from them.
His only power lies within his composition. Because Greed has an unusual amount of carbon in his body, he can harness this raw substance to substitute his skin, giving him the ability to turn his body into an impenetrable force. This has also earned him the nickname of "Ultimate Shield". Even though Greed is a formidable fighter, he pales in comparison to some of his other Homunculus counterparts such as Envy or Wrath. Greed's Ouroborus tattoo is located on his left hand.
=== SPOILERS ===
When the military launches a full attack (headed by the Führer himself) on "The Devil's Nest", most of Greed's chimera soldiers are slaughtered. This ultimately leads to a confrontation between Greed and Wrath in the sewers. The latter is victorious, successfully bringing the captured traitor back to Father. After turning down his creator's final offering to rejoin them, Father ends Greed by dipping him into a magma-like substance. The small Philosopher's Stone that gave him life once again returned to Father's body in the form of a clear crimson liquid.
=== End of Spoilers ===
Greed's anime counterpart is slightly different. Though still greedy and traitorous, he was created after one of Dante's former lovers. It is strongly implied through the anime he might have still had some feelings for her. He is killed by Edward Elric in Dante's estate. His death helps Ed understand just how Homunculi can be killed.
