Encircling the country of Amestris is a massive tunnel which runs miles below the surface. This serves as a physical Transmutation Circle which Father hopes to use to harvest all the souls within the country. The plans to dig this strenuous tunnel were in the making for centuries, and at the helm of its construction is the hulking, simplistic Homunculus: Sloth
Staying true to his name, Sloth is always wanting to rest and finish his job only so he can stop working. He is by far the biggest Homunculus (second only to Envy's true form), yet easily the most malleable, as he is always seen being pushed around by others. Pride seemed to be the one tasked with keeping him in line and finish digging the tunnel. Though he is briefly impeded in this job when he accidentally digs into the Briggs Fortress and gets into a skirmish with the Elrics, Sloth is allowed to continue his work, eventually finishing the circle. After this, he stays close to Father and acts as his personal bodyguard (which most of the time he spends by sleeping at the foot of Father's throne).
Aside from his super strength, this giant's other skill is incredible speed. His velocity is so powerful that he can't even control it, i.e. he always crashes into walls or pillars whenever he actually runs. It is because of this that he keeps a careful slow pace when moving at all times.
Sloth's Ouroborus mark is on his right shoulder.

When Olivia Armstrong and her brother Alex Armstrong took control of Central H.Q during the "Uprising", Father sent Sloth to deal with them. Even with the aid of the other soldiers around, the Armstrongs were no match for this Homunculus. Using his reckless speed, he charges around the inside of the headquarters hoping to hit his foes. It isn't until the arrival of Izumi Curtis and her husband that the tide of the battle turns. Sloth is eventually impaled into a giant stalagmite caused by the destruction. The Philosopher's Stone in his chest -- his only source of life -- runs out as he states that "Living was too much effort". Sloth disintegrates away with a smile on his face.

This character does not exist in the first anime. He is replaced by a different Sloth who is an original character.
