Thousands of years before recorded history, long before Amestris was even a country, the powerful being simply known as Father expelled from his body his first sin. All of his hubris and all of his arrogance amalgamated into the first Homunculus. Pride was born.
Despite the fact he is indeed the oldest of all seven Homunculi, his appearance is that of a small boy. With the introduction of Wrath (under the facade of "Fuhrer King Bradley" wink into the country's ruthless militaristic plans, Pride also made his way into the scene. He was granted the false role of "Selim Bradley", the King's innocent nine-year old son. Living in that position gave Pride limitless opportunities to influence Wrath's decisions with Father's plans. Because of his old age and the fact he is the "original Homunculus", Pride seems to be Father's direct messenger and second-in-command, seen giving orders and bossing around the other Homunculi.
Arguably so, Pride can be considered by far the strongest Homunculus. His special powers allow him to control the shadows and darkness of any terrain -- turning them into giant eyes, claws and even mouths which cause catastrophic damage on a larger scale. Aside from spying in places miles away, his shadows also seem to have the power to absorb knowledge and even special traits from other people upon devouring them.
Pride's Ouroborus mark somewhere on his body has, so far, not been shown.
Though the character of Selim is present in the first anime, he only takes the form of a minor character and human child. The name of Pride is instead given to Bradley.
