So Netflix has Batman: Under the Red Hood on Watch Instantly. It's a pretty good movie.I've already seen it before. Long story short one of Batman's former apprentices uses his training to kill the bad guys rather than just beat them up and arrest them. If you don't really watch much of the Batman series he is like any other super hero. He wants to stop the bad guy without killing them.
My whole life Batman has been my favorite super hero. He doesn't have some bullet proof robot suit like Iron Man or Steel do. He doesn't have super powers like Superman. He just has a human body, a human mind, and fancy toys to play with. I guess with the technology he could somewhat be compared to Iron Man but he doesn't have super strength due to the suit or special protection. Get a bad guy with a rifle and Batman could die. He relies more on his reflexes and instinct to get the job done. The toys he has are tools to assist him in getting the job done. With Iron man he uses the suit to do the job.
Aside from the fight scenes and the cool technology Batman is my favorite for the psychological reason. There is a lot of focus on how his mind works. He's an orphan who watched his parents get killed by street thugs. He grows up to be rich and famous. He could just leave the city and live somewhere more comfortable but instead he dedicates his life to stepping outside the boundaries of the law to bring criminals to justice. He doesn't focus on what's legal but rather what is right and wrong. A lot of heroes have an alter ego. His is the famous Bruce Wayne. In a way the real Bruce died with his parents and all that was left was a person out for revenge. From there he could have just killed criminals but instead he chooses to do the right thing.
This reminds me of Hannibal Rising. If you haven't heard of Hannibal Lector he's a cannibalistic psychologist in The Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon. Anyway Hannibal Rising shows how he became a monster. His parents were killed in war. Some deserters then butcher his sister and eat her to survive. The kind child named Hannibal died with his sister and all that was left was a monster who wanted revenge. As he grows up he has a habit of hurting bully's. Eventually his hatred drives him to find his sisters murderers, kill them, and eat them.
Maybe I'm just weird but I like looking into a persons mind and seeing the darkness. I guess it makes me reflect on who I am and makes me wonder what I would have done in the same situations.
