A random collection of my thoughts
Survival Gear: Clothing
You're going to need clothes. I don't suggest walking around naked. Clothing is one of those things you might or might not need to pack but if you're bugging out you should at least be wearing decent clothing. You can get by for 3 days without changing your clothes if you have to but if you have enough free room for extra clothing and want to pack it then go for it.

The big thing to keep in mind is what is appropriate for your environment. If it's going to be cold pack some warm clothes. If it's hot then wear something that breathes easily. Black clothing traps heat while white reflects it better.

1. Socks. It's good to have several pairs of socks. I keep mine sealed in ziplock bags to keep them dry. It's good to keep your feet dry and clean.

2. Shoes. If you're walking far on foot you might not want to pack high heals. A good pair of boots can get you over rough terrain much better than a pair of flip flops. A cheap pair of flip flops might be good to add though. If your boots get soaked and you have a camp set up you can dry out your boots by a fire. Dry socks won't help any if your boots are soaked. You will soak your new socks as well.

I mention shoes and socks because of trench foot. To learn more about trench foot you can find information in the first aid section right here

3. Pants. I suggest a good pair of jeans. They're tough and can really take a beating so they're not going to rip on you as easily.

4. Shirt. I would recommend a short sleeve and a long sleeve. You can switch from one to the other for temperature comfort. If you're in a hot area keeping your arms covered will help prevent sunburn.

5. Coat. If you're going somewhere cold you will definitely want a coat to keep you warm. At the very least you can pick up a rain pancho for a couple bucks in the camping goods section. In the packaging the pancho is very compact and they're really light which is good for unexpected rain.

6. Shemagh. This is that scarf thing that makes you look an evil terrorist. I get constant remarks from people telling me that I look like a terrorist. Shemaghs are very useful though. In hot weather it protects your face from the sun. In the cold it keeps your face warm. In heavy dust, sand, or snow storms it keeps that stuff out of your face. They run about $15 and you can find them at a military surplus store or you can order them online. Shemaghs are very versatile. In a bind they can double for a tourniquet. In hot weather you can get them damp before wrapping and they can help keep your face cool. Just about any other use you can think of for a large square piece of cloth can work.

This video shows how to wrap one.

Cleaning tips: Your shemagh can shrink if you wash it. I found the best way to wash it is to do so by hand in cold water then hang it up to dry.

7. Goggles. You may or may not need these. If you're in a place where a lot of dust or snow will be blasting in your face they can be pretty handy. I have a pair of flakjack goggles. They're anti fog which helps. They have air vents on them so they don't work for swimming. Anyway they fit over my glasses but my glasses are pretty small. If you have big lenses and big thick frames they might not fit. Flakjacks normally go for about $90 in stores but I found them online for $25 and that includes the cost of shipping. You can get them right here. The online version only has tan frame so if you want a black frame or some other color you will have to look elsewhere. These goggles include changeable lenses. The online deal has a clear lens and a grey shade lense and it has a velcro pouch to store them in. I found when I wear my shemagh my glasses often fog on me but the goggles combined with the shemagh work well together for me. They can also be used for airsoft if that kind of thing interests you. Another reason I have them is because of my hatchet I listed in the list of tools. My hatchet is made of brittle metal so they caution me to use eye protection when I use it.

8. Hats. If you don't bring a shemagh it can still be good to have a hat to help keep your head dry in the rain and shaded in the sun.
