Chapter Two:
Carla was having the exact same problem as Claire, only the foreign exchange student was named Bill Kaulitz and he was from Germany. He too, was a teenage mass of hair who wore tight jeans and had a smile to die for. She didn’t really draw as much as Claire though, but just scribbled his name where her notes should’ve been.
This is silly. He’s just arrived. You can’t be in love with someone you’ve just seen, she thought yet the butterflies in her stomach just wouldn’t quit. She managed to remember that he was from Germany, as was she. He has to still speak German! He has to! She hastily ripped a piece of her notebook paper, scribbled a small note, and tapped the shoulder in front of her. It was Mikey Way, a friend of hers. She whispered for him to pass the note to Bill, and he nodded, taking the small piece of paper and, aiming it as the boy’s desk, he threw it. It made its mark. Bill looked down at the paper confused, then shrugged and opened it. He wrote something down on the paper, re-crumpled it, and held it in his hand. He looked around the room, then at Mikey, who pointed to Carla behind him. Bill, who wasn’t as confident in his aiming skills, passed the note to the kid behind him, a girl named Jamia Nestor, who passed it to Mikey, then back to Carla.
Carla had been right; Bill did speak German. Although she was terribly nervous, she had to talk to him. If I get to know him better, then maybe I’ll find out he’s a jerk and I won’t like him anymore. She wrote for him to meet her after class, then passed her note back to Mikey, who threw it to Bill. The German boy looked back and nodded, giving her one of those beautiful smiles. He can’t be a jerk. Not with that smile. Boy, am I screwed. She slumped in her seat, letting the butterflies take over. & & &
“So, there are two foreign exchange students here? How cool!” exclaimed Dani, as she, Carla, Claire, and Chels walked to their next classes. “I saw that Faris kid,” said Chels, “He’s a really good artist. I wonder if Gerard has met him yet? I’m sure they’d have a lot to talk about, art wise.” “Yeah, he’s really good,” Claire mumbled, looking down at her shoes. “Uh-oh! Does Claire have a crush?” Dani teased, poking Claire in the arm. “What?! NO! I never said that!” She squeaked, though it was incredibly obvious. “What’s wiL gonna say?” asked Carla, joining in so that they wouldn’t ask about Bill. “Nothing! He doesn’t like me!” She exclaimed. “Sismonster, I love you, but you’re blind if you think wiL doesn’t like you,” said Chels bluntly. Claire thought she would pass out from all the blushing. “Oh s**t, I see Shawn! I’m gonna say hi!” Claire shouted, before rushing off to say hello to her long-time lab partner, Shawn Harris. The group rolled their eyes. “I’m gonna go meet Gee in the art room. I’ll catch up with you guys later,” said Chels, waving good-bye to the group. Dani had history class next and saying good-bye to Carla, she caught up with her friend who was going to her next class, a boy named Bob Bryar, who gave her a tight hug. Carla walked off to find her next class and almost bumped into Bill Kaulitz.
“Hey,” he said. “Hey,” Carla could feel the blush spreading across her face. She almost forgot about her note from class. Oh God, why did I ask him to meet me? “So, you speak German?” He asked. She nodded. “That’s wonderful!” He said in his native tongue. “That makes things so much easier. It’s nice to have someone who speaks it here. I’m not that amazing with English,” he gave her a sheepish grin and Carla knew her heart was melting again. I knew I was screwed, Carla thought.
“What class do you have now?” she asked him, still speaking in German. They realized that they both had the same class so they walked there together, trying to get as much conversation in as humanly possible. She felt a lot more at ease when she talked in German because no one around her understood what she was saying. Bill also seemed at ease.
“Hey, will you be my tourguide? You know, show me around this place? I have no idea where anything is.” “I would be happy to,” Carla said. The smile that spread across his face could bring a panda back to life. “Carla, you’re so sweet. Thank you for putting up with me.” Putting up with you?! Are you insane?! Have you looked in a mirror lately?!“It’s no trouble, Bill.” “I’m glad I found a friend here. I don’t feel so awkward anymore.” Carla was touched, though, when she got to know him better, she hoped they would become more than just friends.
