Chapter Three:
“Jake, this hair looks stupid.” “No, that thing you’re trying to grow on your face looks stupid. The hair looks fine.”
The Wambold brothers were once again late to school. Jake’s car, as Troy described it, was ‘a broken down piece of s**t’ and no one could get it to start. Jake claimed that he had the magic touch, and it used to seem true but as of late, not even he could get it to run.
“Third period’s almost over! Can’t we just take the bus?” Troy pleaded, ignoring his brother’s comment about his facial hair. It was what Jake did to the hair on his head that was pissing him off; he had gelled it up in an Elvis Presley sort of way and it wasn’t to his liking.
“I’m not leaving my car in the middle of the road, you dumb s**t.” “******** you, Jake. It’s not like anyone would take it- the ******** can’t run!” “Just a ******** second!” shouted Jake, twisting the keys in the ignition. “I think I got it this time.”
Suddenly, the engine roared to life beneath them. He slammed on the gas pedal and the two of them were racing off to school. “Got anything to say to me, O Ye of Little Faith?” Jake looked over at his brother, a smug smile on his face. “You and you’re car are two of a kind- you’re both ******** Divas.”
Jake laughed “It’s just the first day of school. It’s not like we’re missing much. We’ll get there in time for lunch and that’s really the most important subject.” “Amen to that!” Troy didn’t really like school but he went anyway. Besides, it wasn’t all bad, especially when- “How’s Sami?” Jake asked. Troy blushed a little. “She’s fine, I guess. I haven’t seen her all summer. She spent it with her family in Florida.” “I bet you miss her.” “No s**t, Sherlock.” “Well, trust me, with that hair, she won’t be able to resist you. But with that beard…you should’ve shaved.” “She’s not gonna dump me because of that!” “I would.” “********. YOU.”
Jake was laughing hysterically when the two of them finally managed to get to school. They each got their schedules. There were only 5 minutes left in the third period. Jake went to the cafeteria while Troy went to look for Sami.
He jumped up and down, looking through classroom door windows, trying to find her. Suddenly, the bell rang, and the doors to the classrooms opened. Troy leaned against the wall, trying not to get trampled by the herd but trying to find Sami in the process. He looked around frantically; she didn’t seem to be there.
All of a sudden, he felt something warm press to his lips. He was being pushed back into the wall, a pair of arms wrapping around his neck. Troy closed his blue eyes; it was the best welcome back he had ever gotten.
“My goodness, if only we weren’t in school,” Sami whispered in his ear as she pulled her lips away from his. Troy smiled. “If only.” “You look gorgeous,” she told him, “I like the hair,” Troy sighed. “It was Jake’s idea. He said girls wouldn’t be able to resist it.” “Well, he was right. Was the beard his idea too?” “No, that was me.” “I like them both. Now, let’s go get some lunch,” she said with a smile, taking him by the hand and leading him to the cafeteria. Troy’s year was off to a good start.
