Me on Mushi-Shi
Yesterday my mom took me to get my official state issued ID card at the DMV yesterday on account of the fact that I'm going to go to California again next week and she was worried that my school ID wouldn't cut it this time (I am getting kinda old). Anyways, the lady that was taking my picture was hasty as she sat me down then told me:

"Alright, look at the blue strip under the camer-*shoop da woop*-a"

For any of you that missed that, the "shoop-de-woop" was referring to the flash of the camera. That b***h caught me off gaurd. As if anyone gets a good picture on the ID or driver's liscense anyways, she made sure I was unprepared. For that reason I look hideous. What does this have to do with Mushi-Shi? We'll my mom out of the blue decided to cheer me up and took me to the bookstore (I love going there) and we picked up the last Harry Potter book. I was browsing the manga section when I came across the Mushi-Shi original manga. I picked it up and bought it out of interest (I had heard of it on Gaia but it was ******** expensive, like $13) and I broght it home and began reading it.

It was really good. The art itself is drawn in an old style. The stories are amazing. They follow a "Mushi-Shi" ( I want to say that that translates to "Mushi Seer" but don't hold me to it) named Ginko as he finds clients in need of help for their Mushi problem and he gives them medication. A mushi is like a spirit, but not really. It's a basic form of life, life and death derives from it. It's neither animal or plant, living nor dead. Some are peacful, whie some are parasitic and feed of Ginko's clients. Ginko can see the Mushi and is trained to perscribe medication to treat illnesses caused by them or just to make them go away in general.

Over all the book has a very Japanese-spiritual feel to it. I would have to say that it is a combination of CLAMP's xxxHolic (very spiritual), Kino's Journey (very zen), and Miyazaki films (extreamly nature oriented). The art is just amazing. It has somewhat of a Miyazaki feel to it but it's not overpowering and works perfectly with the story line. Overall I'm highly anticapating getting volume two, this is a great manga and I'm about to go check out the anime in cinemas to see if it is just as good.
