It's girly, it's cute, it's a love story, it's... based on an H-game? eek Oddly enough. Today's review is for Nanatsuiro (Rainbow) Drops.
Unnoticed Sumomo has a crush on the schools pretty boy, Haru. On his way to the gardening club he was ordered to join, Haru runs into a strange masked man carrying a large bag of cans. After the bustle and confusion of trying to clean up the mess, Haru takes a sip of his drink only to realise that he traded by mistake. And what a mistake it is. The drink is actually a transformation potion from the alternate world, 'Figurare' that turns Haru into a sheep doll. It's destined to continue every night except the full moon. After a short string of events, he is informed that the transformations are not permanent. He'll turn into a doll forever if the potions effects are not reversed. And wouldn't you know it, he can't even collect the ingredients (The rainbow star drops) to turn back to normal. So side by side with his partner and her "Stellar Spinear', the adventure begins.
It's a relatively short series with only 12 episodes. It's fairly decent. I have no real quarrels with the music or storyline, but the fact that high school girls look like 3rd graders... kind of sets me off. Aside from that, it's not too bad a watch. Not overly sappy or girly, anyone who enjoys romance anime could stay 'till the end.
The Scores:
Art: 7.5/10
- Again, this comes back to the child-like high school girls. I don't like to pick on artwork too thoroughly, but there's a limit to how far a persons impression of something will go. At this point it's almost as bad as going the direction of Tenjou Tenge, straight into the unbelieveable.
Music: 6.5/10
- The music in and of itself is decent. The songs are not uninspired, but they seem to endlessly repeat through the series. A little variety wouldn't have killed them. stare
Storyline: 8/10
- As expected of a romantic anime, the highest score goes to storyline. Because it's a short series, there really wasn't time for deep development, but it gets the point across, and though the concept isn't really new, it's shown to be different from other 'magical girl' shows.
All in all, about a 7/10. Not too bad. Not the greatest but not bad. If you're looking for a series to kill time, this would do nicely.
