To this date, I've watched more anime than I'd like to recount. Some I've watched in earnest; some I've basically had to glue my eyes open to keep watching. This seemed to be the latter, so I was highly reluctant. It's surface value is that it's just another one of those overdone storylines. Y'know, the ones where a normal guy transfers into a new highschool and falls for the one girl he can't have, so he does something amazing to make her fall for him. This though, went far above my highest expectations and is a gem in the world of anime (expect some cliche's though).
The cliche part is just as I mentioned. Yamato, a first year highschool student from a rural community, transfers into a Tokyo high school in hopes of changing something, even though he's not quite sure of what. The condition allowing him to live in Tokyo, is that he stay in the apartment complex run by his aunt, which is purely for women. Yamato also happens to live next door to the beatuy that he saw practicing earlier, Suzuka. On the first day of school, things get a little complicated. The two of them end up in the same class as Honoka. Enter the bizarre love triangle. This, though, is the point where the cliche ends for most of the series. Yamato is actually not an idiot, surprising from a love story, I know. He makes the right decisions (for the most part) and gets (mostly) decent advice from his buddy about love.
The Scores:
Art: 10/10 If I could rate it higher, I probably would. It's different from the anime I usually watch, in that the eyes don't tend to take over half the head sweatdrop and it's beautiful.
Music: 10/10 The music and the art are enough to break hearts. My advice? This is not a show to watch when there are others around, when you're trying to recover from a breakup, or when trying to maintain masculinity. (Option 3 is for guys only.)
Stroyline: 6/10 The story delves much deeper than most I've seen in terms of emotions. It's about equal to Kanon in that respect. I found many of the plot twists to be unsettling, and the ending far more than obvious. Ignoring the ending though, it was an excellent story.
All in all, about an 8/10. I recommend this one to anyone who doesn't mind seeing just how idiotic we (men) are.
