Chapter Fourteen Tourbus
Mikey Way looked out the window, the bleak countryside passing him by. The end of the world was too much; it was pulling him back into a depression that he had tried so hard to beat. It didn’t help matters that it was beginning to rain. Gerard Way could see that his younger brother was in pain but he knew there wasn’t much he could do about it. He just didn’t want Mikey to feel good about dying and the end of the world. He didn’t want him to waste his last days on earth. Gerard was making coffee for himself at that particular moment, so he poured another cup for Mikey and went to sit by his younger brother. Mikey solemnly took the coffee and nodded a thank you towards Gerard. Gee glumly drank the liquid, wishing that his brother would talk to him. Mikey had simply shut off when they had heard the world was ending and hadn’t said much to anybody, not even to Alicia. “Mikey, you have to speak sometime.” Mikey stayed silent, the only noise coming from him being the sipping of his coffee. He continued to stare at the rain that was now coming down in sheets against the windows. “Mikey, we can’t keep doing this. I love you, but you’re beginning to scare me again. You haven’t been this silent since The Paramour. I don’t want you to have to go through with that again.” “You think I like being this way?” He said softly. “I’m not during this on purpose. You of all people should know that.” Mikey looked into Gerard’s eyes and the older Way could see that his eyeliner was beginning to run down his cheeks. He dropped his coffee onto the floor of the tourbus and hugged his older brother tightly, burying his head into his chest and sobbing. Gerard gently stroked Mikey’s hair, trying to soothe his brother. After a few moments, Mikey looked up, the make-up smeared across his features like black blood. He gave Gerard a pained smile. “I’m sorry,” he mumbled. “I think I’ve ruined your shirt.” Gerard smiled. “Don’t worry about it. I just want you to feel better. We only have about 6 days to live, you know.” Mikey looked out the window forlornly. “Yeah, I know. How’s Alicia?” He asked. “You should ask her that yourself. She’s more worried about you then I am, if you can believe it. She loves you very much.” Mikey nodded and tried to wipe off some of the make-up with the back of his hand. It wasn’t really working. He giggled. “I must look a mess.” “She won’t really care. She’ll just be happy to see you smiling.” Mikey pulled out his cellphone and dialed Alicia’s phone number. “Mikey?!” She answered the phone, shocked to see her fiancée’s number. “Hello angel,” he said softly. “Mikey, we haven’t spoken for what seems like forever.” “I know. Tell them to pull over the bus. I want to see you.” “Sure thing.” Mikey hung up the phone. Gerard had already left to tell the bus driver to pull over. The guys of My Chemical Romance were in one tour bus while the girls were in the other but most of the time, they would just visit the other bus. But Mikey had confined himself to the MCR tourbus, covering his bunk with a black sheet and not doing anything but listening to ‘Disenchanted’, much like how it was before his break-down in The Paramour. Now he was ready to leave the bus and see Alicia. He got off the bus and ran into the arms of Alicia Simmons. She smiled, although her eyes were building in her tears. “Oh Mikey, you look awful,” she said and he laughed, kissing her. “I want to marry you, Alicia. I want to marry you before the world ends.” Alicia gasped. “D-d-d-o you really mean that, Mikey?” “I’ve never been more serious about anything in my whole life.” “Then let’s do it. Let’s go to Vegas and get hitched.” The two of them ran onto the MCR bus and told the boys the plan. Gerard could barely contain his excitement. “Sure! Let’s go to Vegas! I hope the wedding chapels are still up and running.” Frank bit his lip and looked over to the other bus. “I’m marrying Jamia in Vegas too,” he said. He ran off the bus to tell his fiancée. “Maybe we should call the Aiden boys and tell them we’re making an important detour,” suggested Bob. “Good idea,” said Gerard, whipping out his cellphone and dialing the number. Mikey and Alicia continued to kiss, his spirits soaring for the first time in days.
