Pieces of the Heart
Part 13

The hallways were quiet.
It was one of the few rare moments where Allen didnt feel like he was loosing his mind, or being harassed, or targeted. No strange voices, no haunting piano meleody, just himself, his thoughts, and peace.
"AlLleEen..."
Or so he thought.
Allen froze. He tried to tell himself that he was used to this. He tried to remind himself that soon he would be back outside in the sun with lavi, or maybe he would go to the library and try to read a book, or maybe...
AaAlLleEen...
His steps picked up as he unconsiously tried to move away from the voice.
He flinched at the strange feelings coming from the hallways. Like the darkness was creeping toward him.
His own heart thumped in his ears as his breathing increased. He felt like he was being cornered. He had to get away.
He had to get away!
He had to-
And suddenly, just as everything had started, it stopped.
The oppresive feeling was gone, the darkness was gone, the voices were gone.
He stopped, not wanting to move and displace his invisible sanctuary. He looked around as his breathing slowed, trying to figure out why exactly this specific stretch of hallway was giving him such peace. And then he saw it.
The door to Kanda's room.
Why...?
He stared at the wooden structure, accented with wrought iron details.
Why would Kanda's room...
"Allen?"
Brown hair whiped around and amber eyes landed on a bewildered looking Lavi. The red-head was standing stock still, staring with curiosity brimming from his emerald eye.
Allen stared back for a moment, before realizing that this was usually the point that one responded to their name.
"Ah..."
'Great' He thought 'that's one syllable... a few more and we might have a word!'
"La-Lavi! Ah, what is it? What are you doing up so late?"
"Allen... What are you doing...?"
Allen turned to find his hands pressed up against Kanda's door, his fingers pressing against the grain. He paused for a moment before jerking his hands back and putting them behind him. Why had he been...?
"Ah... i was just... uh... going back to my room and..."
"You ever been in Yuu-chan's room?" Lavi suddenly asked, tilting his head to the side with a grin. He marched forward, slinging an arm over the smaller boys shoulder.
"N-no." Allen blinked.
"ah~" Lavi sighed with a shrug, "i was hoping that maybe someone had managed to get into "the kanda fortress"." he sighed. "It's the one place i can't go in and-"
"Why can't you?" Allen asked, pushing the red-head off of him and starting to walk toward his room, feeling much more safe than before.
"He asked me not to go in." Lavi shrugged.
Allen stopped, raising an eyebrow at the red-head.
"Like that's ever stopped you before?" he prompted.
Lavi shrugged. "Well." he explained, "That was the one time that Yuu-chan pulled me aside and asked me, calmly and non-violently, not to do something. He just said, "Please, if you listen to anything that i ask of you (mind you he still had a bit of an accent back then,) Do not go in my room. It is important to me that you do not." And then he just kinda walked away and pretended the conversation never happened. It was totally unlike him, and completely random, so i decided that it was important enough to respect his wish. I've never gone in."
Lavi blinked down at Allen's amazed eyes.
"What?"
The british boy shook his head with a smile. "I just can't beleive that you would actually listen to someone's orders..."
"oi, oi... " lavi whined. "you say that like i'm a delinquint! That really hurts right here Allen-chan!" He thumped a fist over his heart, giving the boy his best 'kicked puppy' face.
"Right, whatever." Allen grinned, pushing the older boy away.
"So what were you doing?" Lavi inquired.
"Ah.." Allen twisted his fingers into his other hand. "It just... um... there was this... uh... "
"Allen." Lavi snapped, pulling the both of them to a stop and grabbing the smaller boy by the shoulders. "Tell me."
Amber eyes sank to the floor.
"I was hearing things again.. and... i got scared... but... when i stopped in front of kanda's room, everything got real quiet. But not like a bad quiet! Like... library quiet, where everyone stays hushed because they want to, not because they have to... You know?"
Lavi stared for a moment, before, much to Allen's suprise, he nodded.
"I guess it has something to do with the pendant." Lavi shrugged, releasing the boy in favor of returning to their leisurly pace.
"Ah... yeah." Allen grimaced. He hadn't told lavi about the 'pendant Kanda' that he had met in his dreams. Maybe he should?
"Ah, lavi.. um.. there's something i need-"
And there it was.
"Allen?"
That soft, sad sound that had been tormenting Allen.
"Allen..?"
The piano... somewhere, someone was playing. But who? Who would play such a sad meleody?
"Oi~?"
And why wasn't it coming from the ark?
***

He was finished. That was all. There were no more. Not a single piece. All of the paperwork, was finally done.

Now what would he do?

Komoui sat at his desk, staring incredulously at the piles and piles of paper that had been sorted, signed, commented, and filed.
He was done.
He. Was. Done.
What was his purpose in life!?
Just as he began a sad excuse of a panic attack, his office door burst open, and lavi waltzed in, dragging a very spacey looking Allen. He looked suspiciously at the two of them.
"Lavi... Allen-kun?"
"Yo Komoui!" Lavi grinned with a wave. "Um... i think... Allen-chan broke or something." He confessed like a child who broke a vase.
"Broke?" Komoui stood and walked over to Allen. The boy was staring into space, seemingly lost in thought.
"Allen-kun?" Komoui waved a hand in front of his face.
"Tried that." lavi sighed.
"Did you shake him?"
"Tried it."
"Did you smack him?"
"See the handprint?"
"Did you sexually harass him?"
"Didn't even bat an eyelash."
"Hmmm..." komoui sighed, putting a fist to his chin. "This is serious then."
"What do you think has our little Moyashi-chan so spaced out."
"MY NAME IS ALLEN!"
The two blinked at the brown haired boy, who blinked back, suddenly realizing he was being spoken to.
"... What are you doing in the hallway Komoui-san?" Allen blinked.
"I believe this 'hallway' is, in fact, my office." komoui motioned for the boy to look around. He did, with a start.
"So it is... " he blinked. "How did we get here?"
"I dragged you here when you decided to start playing astronaut." Lavi grumbled. "Seriously Allen, it's no fun talking to someone who doesn't at least pretend to be in the same room..."
"Sorry." Allen laughed sheepishly, scratching his head. "I was... er... distracted..."
"What was so distracting Allen-kun?" Komoui asked. The question was seemingly innocent, but the glimmer in Komoui's eyes told Allen that he would have to answer for quite a bit if he lied.
"Ah, its about... what... we talked about earlier." He murmered, hoping that lavi's impossibly sharp hearing would maybe, perchance, not hear him.
"What did you guys talk about earlier?" Lavi asked, tilting his head. Allen face-palmed.
"I'm sorry Lavi." Komoui sighed, "but could you give us a moment of privacy?"
Lavi looked between the two, before giving Allen a pitiful look.
"Lavi... please..." Allen sighed.
And for a moment, Allen thought that he saw real dissapointment flash across the bookman's face.
"Ah~" He sighed, raising his arms in defeat. "If you guys wanna play secrets then fine. Just don't expect me to let you into my super awsome fort later." he teased before walking out and closing the door behind him.
The two stared for a moment.
"He's actually mad at me, isn't he." Allen sighed.
"I wouldn't say 'mad'." komoui returned, ushering Allen to the couch, "Just... feeling a bit neglected probably. It couldn't hurt to tell him..."
Allen frowned a bit. The return of the voices had really reminded him about how dire his situation was. He was going to die, and anyone who tried to stop it would be killed in the process. Luna had told him that he would be okay, but she never said anything about others. This was probably just a one time thing for him. And Kanda... If... if by some chance, Kanda was already gone, there was no way he was going to put lavi in any sort of danger. Never.
"Alright." komoui sighed, "I can see that there is no persuading you, so we might as well get onto the subject at hand."
Allen blinked for a moment, raising an eyebrow at the scientist.
"I'm not a mind reader." Komoui shrugged, "But you made that "im determined and nothing can change my mind face" So, i'm pretty sure that you're mind is made up."
Allen's brow furrowed and the scientist could practically hear the boy thinking about what kind of expression that was.
"Allen."
The brown haired boy looked back up.
"You were saying?" Komoui laughed lightly at the boy's airheaded-ness.
"Ah, that's right... Are you free now?"
Komoui blinked, then looked at his clear desk.
"I guess... but what-"
"Can we look for the music now?"
Komoui's eyes narrowed. "Is it bothering you that much?"
Allen twisted his hands in his lap. "It's not that it's bothering me... but... i think i found out where it's coming from... and i need you to let me in there."
Komoui's interest was peaked.
"Alright." he stood, adjusting his cap. "Lead the way."
***

"Are you... certain?"
"Yes." Allen nodded.
The pair stood in front of a plain wooden door, decorated with wrought iron. Again, Allen felt that incredible urge to put his hands against the soft wood. Whatever was inside was calling to him...
"But... Allen-Kun... What if it's a trap?" Komoui put a hand on his shoulder, stopping the british boy's unconsious movement toward the door.
"I... I don't think it is." Allen sighed. All he wanted was to go in and see what was making the sound!
"But, Allen... Really... KANDA'S room?"
"Yes, Kanda's room!" Allen sighed in exasperation. "Now can we just... go in or something?"
Komoui gave him a curious look, before he sighed in resignation.
"Alright, but i have to tell you something before we go in."
Allen blinked for a moment. Was Kanda's room really that big of a deal?
"Be ready for the consequences." Komoui said sternly. "You may think differently of Kanda after this, and if he finds out, he will not forgive you."
"Not... forgive me...?" Allen stared. What was it? Why would Kanda be angry...?
"You'll see." Komoui sighed, before pulling a key off of his belt and fitting it into the lock. A small 'click' later, and the door was ready to be opened. Allen stared for a moment. For all of his wanting to get in, he suddenly felt like he never wanted that door to open. What would he do if kanda really hated him? What could be so horrible that would warrent hatred upon seeing?

But before Allen had the chance to protest, Komoui had opened the door.

The room was dark, but it wasn't dingy. It was neatly cleaned, with no spider webs or dust to be accounted for. The bed was neatly made, and his desk was neatly organized and,
well...
those were pretty much the only things in the room.
Allen's eyes followed the cracks in the large stained-glass window. They almost seemed to form a shape, and with more time, he was certain that he could guess what it was, but for now, his mind was more focused on finding the source of the music.
Which...
"I... don't hear it anymore." Allen blinked sheepishly at Komoui, who frowned in return.
"Nothing at all?"
"Nothing." Allen shugged. He tried moving around a little, standing in different area's, but nothing worked. Then, his eyes caught sight of the little side table almost hidden in plain sight in the corner. It was old, and the wood was darkened in some areas. It looked like it had seen better days. But what was most interesting about the table was actually the item sitting on top of it.
"Allen."
The brown haired boy jerked backward. He hadn't realized that he had been approaching the table, or reaching out to touch the crystal hourglass. It was just so beautiful.
Covered in thin silver decorations that twirled and twisted like the trails of stars, the entire structure couldnt have been more than a foot in height. The glass was crystal clear, and seemed to sparkle. On the inside in the top half of the glass, a beautiful pink lotus floated gently atop sparkleing waters that definitly seemed supernatural. Following the water down to the bottom half, he found several flower petals. They still looked to be in full bloom, a beautiful and delicate pink, but there they were, fallen from their prime.
Allen realized that he was knealing on the floor, hands gripping the edge of the little wooden table as he stared into the glass. He shook his head a bit, and stood, trying to move away from the thing that seemed to draw him in.
"W-what is that?" Allen suddenly asked, motioning to the hourglass. Kanda didn't seem like one to keep something like this simply for it's beauty...
"Is it innocence?"
Komoui smiled, and Allen could see his sadness and frustation laced into it.
"You could... say that." He pulled off his hat and ran a hand through his hair, before he began to finger the silver decorations of the berret. "That flower is very important to kanda."
"Why?" Allen blinked up with innocent eyes.
"Because... when that flower loses all of it's petals, it means that Kanda's life is over."
Allen stared for a moment, before whipping his head to look back at the flower. Now that he looked at it like that... more than half of the petals were at the bottom...
How old was kanda? 19...?
"That flower is bound to Kanda through a curse." Komoui continued, ignoring Allen's lack of attentivness. "Everytime he gets hurt, his healing rate is increased in exchange for damages to the flower. If he is killed, he will revive at the cost of a full petal. I think that's only happened twice though..."
"Tw-twice..." Allen sank to his knees. Those petals... they were the same as a clock. How could kanda still be sane, being forced to stare the remainder of his life right in the face...?! His eyes darted back to the flower. How many petals were left on the top?! How much longer did Kanda have to live?!
"The person who cursed him was his uncle." Komoui snapped Allen out of his thought. The brown haired boy turned to stare.
"His... his uncle?"
Komoui nodded.
"All I know is that on the same day the entire Kanda family was completely wiped out, Kanda was cursed, and his uncle dissapeared. Ever since then, Kanda has been looking for him. He wants to get him to remove the curse, and then, he'll probably kill him."
Allen's hand rose to touch his left eye. Even though his curse was gone, he knew how hard it was on him to be cursed out of love from a family member... but from hatred...? And Kanda's family... they were all...
gone?
Allen began to panic.
How many times had he teased Kanda about what his mother must be like? Or what about siblings? How could he... How could he...!?
"Relax Allen." Komoui soothed, placing a hand on the trembeling boys shoulder. "I told you that you might think differently of Kanda, but i also told you that if he found out, he would be angry. Why do you think that is?"
Allen blinked for a moment, before shaking his head. He couldn't have spoken, even if he knew the answer.
"He doesn't want to get others involved." Komoui sighed. "He considers his family his problem, and doesn't want pity or help. He could certainly use a friend though." Komoui winked at him, before he helped Allen to his feet.
"That's enough info for today don't you think?" Komoui shrugged. He led Allen out of the room, and closed the door behind him. Instantly, Allen heard the soft piano music again, sadly floating from the samurai's room. Komoui raised an eyebrow at him for looking back, but Allen just shrugged, whipeing his face dry and giving a small smile. Komoui returned the gesture and the two began to walk away.

And at the very end of the hallway, lavi cocked his head, turned, and left.
***

It was going to drive him crazy.
He just knew it.
Any moment now, he was going to snap.
If that music didn't stop...
Allen's eye twitched for the thirty-seventh (not like he was counting) time, and he could suddenly sympathize with Kanda, who's brow's twitched from irritation on a regular basis. Seriously, you could wind a clock to those things.
Allen didn't realize that his current train of thought had led to him laughing hysterically (and a bit crazily) until he suddenly noticed the disturbed quiet in the caffeteria.
He managed to stifle his laughter to a quiet giggle as Lavi sat his tray down next to him.
"Ah... Allen-chan...?" He said softly, trying not to break the disturbed boy's limited hold on his sanity. "What... what's so funny?" He gave a faultering smile. Even as the resident crazy bunny, Lavi was seriously concerned at Allen's antics. They boy couldn't be acting. Something was seriously driving him off his rocker.
"*giggle* kanda's *snort* eyebrows" he choked out from behind his hands.
Lavi raised a brow at this.
"Right... ha ha... Al... thats... totally hilarious..." he pathetically tried to go along with it.
"That's it." Allen snapped, slaming his hands onto the table. It cracked under the force of his left one, leaving a nice splintered section in its wake. He stood and began to leave.
"Where are you going!?" Lavi called after him, rising to join him.
"Back in a sec!" Allen called before turning the corner and exiting the caffeteria. Lavi ran to catch up, but when he exited the doors, Allen was no where in sight. He was totally gone.
***

"Nii-san!" Lenalee cried as she threw herself into her brothers awaiting arms. Her mission had been a bit rough, but nothing she couldn't handle, and she was glad to be home!
"AHHH~ my darling LENALEEE!" komoui squealed at the top of his voice. "It's so WONDERFUL to have you home! Welcome home!"
"I'm home brother!" Lenalee grined.
And then Kanda and Lavi appeared from behind him. Lavi was all smiles and hugs, ruffleing the girls hair while welcoming her home.
Kanda would grumble, but still give her a nod of welcome before he moved aside. And there, on the staircase, was her knight!
Allen's smile would sweep her off of her feet. His sudden growth spurt put him right at her height, making it perfectly possible for him to wrap an arm around her waist and tilt her to the side, his lips coming straight for hers. But before they met, he would stop, with beautiful silver eyes shimmering into her dark green ones. She would flutter her eyelashes, and her heart would beat a million miles a minute, and he would lean in close until she could feel his breath on her lips. So close! And he would smile and say "welcome home, lenalee." And he would move in and-!

"Ah.. miss Lee?"
Lenalee jerked from her seat on the little boat, blinking at the masked finder who had called for her attention.
"Um... we... we're almost back." He studdered, looking away. Lenalee cocked her head before she realized the nice trail of drool down her chin, and uniform, and skirt, and onto the floor of the boat into a little puddle.
"oops." She blushed before whiping herself off. "ah, thanks." She added.
She sighed. It had been such a nice daydream! and it was just getting to the good part!
Lenalee had to stop herself from re-entering la-la land in fear of meeting her knight (a.k.a Allen "sexy-beast" walker) with drool running down her front. Who knows what he would think!?
As the light from the entry point got closer, she tensed. She had to seem natural so that everything would go as planned! Sighing and straightening her shorty short skirt (that she really hoped Allen took the time to admire...) She re-adjusted herself into a natural position and waited. Closing her eyes to seem relaxed, she let herself bask in the light of the entryway. Ah... she could hear it now. Her brothers loud whining, and Lavi's cheerfullness, and Allen's sexyness (how sexy made a sound, she didn't know, but she new it came from the boy.) and... hold on a sec.
Her eyes snapped open when the boat stopped, and she found herself face to face with a completely empty dock.
Blinking, she stood and stepped onto shore.
"W-where is everyone?" she asked the finder, pointing to the empty space.
"I believe they are all upstairs." the finder shrugged like she was dumb and moved past her to the staircase.
"But... but!" She pouted. Then it hit her. Obviously something important might be happening.
And suddenly, self-absorbed lenalee evolved into Semi-usefull lenalee!
The girl activated her dark boots, blasting up the steps (and running over poor random finder A ) And made her way to the central corridor. The moment she was within hearing range, she could hear the uproar of the science department. Landing with grace in the center of the chaos, she quickly found her brother near-by, shouting out orders and pointing in random directions in which scientists were running. Every-so-often, a scientist would run up and shake his head at the expectant look on komoui's face. Her brother would sigh, his brow furrowing ever so slightly more, and he would shout out another location.
"Nii-san!" lenalee called, working her way through the scramble. "Nii-san!!"
"Ah, Lenalee!" Komoui called back, reaching out to give his sister a quick hug.
"What's going on?" She cried as he gave another scientist another location.
"Allen-kun is missing, and strange things have started happening agian. Several people have been attacked, and we can't find the source. If we find Allen though, we may be able to stop it!"
"Where haven't you looked?!" Lenalee cried, determined to be useful. Komoui gave her a pained expression, but sighed at her determined glare.
"Go check the third floor. We haven't gotten there yet. And be careful!"
"Right!" Lenalee cried, rushing off. She had to find Allen. She had really no idea about what was happening, but people were getting hurt, and finding Allen seemed to be the only cure. So she rushed off, determined to find her missing friend.
***

It was so pretty...
It was so beautiful...
It would probably feel warm...
Allen stared at the peacefull pink glow of the lotus glass. The flower seemed so beautiful, even though it was simply an omen of death. The entire structure seemed to resonate with something more than life.
And then the thought hit him.

Could this be... Kanda's heart?

And so he found himself at a crossroads.
He so desperatly wanted to touch the beautiful ornament. He wanted to feel its obvious warmth, and see if he could sap some of the peacefull sparkle for himself. Even just a little!
But he knew he was being selfish. And if this hourglass was Kanda's heart, then who was he to touch it without permission? Would it have an effect on kanda? What if he accidentally hurt the boy? Kanda wouldn't forgive him.
touch...
But... maybe he was thinking too much.
touch it...
Kanda was his friend... surely he wouldnt mind...
you know you want to...
And something like a single touch wouldn't hurt it!
he kept this wonderful thing from you...
Kanda was always so greedy with his things, hiding away such a beautiful thing just so that he could keep it to himself!
you deserve it!
That's right! Kanda was always so mean to him. It would serve him right to find that someone else had found his precious thing!
teach him a lesson...
Kanda would learn his lesson.
DO IT!
After all, it was only a silly little hour glass.

And so he reached out, and touched.

***

Lavi was running from room to room, desperatly trying to find his British friend. Allen had been gone for a few hours now, and around two hours ago, people started showing up with strange bruises and markings on them. Komoui immediatly recognized it as the darkness, and ordered that the marked people be exposed to direct sunlight. But more and more people were apprearing, and the situation was starting to get desperate.
Where could Allen have gone!?
And suddenly, a cold chill ran right up Lavi's spine, causing him to hault in his tracks.
It couldn't be.
He stared at the door he had stopped in front of. Old wood and wrought iron. Kanda's room.
Lavi shook his head.
Sure Allen had seemed a little curious... but... why would he go in there? and surely someone had checked there. It was the room right next to Allen's for heavens sake! And also the room of someone that was considered Allen's mortal enemy.
Lavi wanted to facepalm, but he was more urgently pressed to open the door.
The moment he touched the handle, he knew he had struck gold.
Or was extremely unlucky.
The entire room was filled with a thick substance, coating the floor, walls, and dripping from the ceiling. It looked purely evil, made of swirling purples and pure blacks. And lavi recognized it immediatly as darkness.
Looking through the doorway, he managed to spot pale skin on the floor, close to the window, and next to the table that held an old looking hourglass. His eyes fixed on it momentarilly. The petals of he flower were turning black. Even as he watched, one fell off and gently floated to the bottom.
Tearing his eyes away from the scene that he couldnt quite comprehend, he slammed the door closed, determined to keep the darkness at bay until he could contact komoui. Grabbing the little flying golem that was hovering by his shoulder, he quickly shouted into it.
"KANDA'S ROOM!"
Lavi could hear the resulting clamor of scientists as they all surged to the designated place. After only a few seconds, Komoui came running down the corridor, with the entire science department behind him.
"Lavi!" he called, reaching the boy who was still leaning against the non resisting door. Even though the darkness wasn't trying to escape, he was taking no chances.
"Allen's in there." Lavi replied to the panting supervisor. "But it's not pretty."
"Alright." Komoui nodded. He motioned to several scientists, one of them being jonny, who moved foreward with a strange looking light.
"On three, open the door." Komoui ordered, standing back a bit. The men holding the light got into place, and Lavi spread his feet for balance.
"One."
Would Allen be okay?
"Two."
Why was he in Yuu-chan's room?
"Three!"
The door was thrown open right as the light was flipped on. The entire room was immediatly illuminated with artificial sunlight.
The darkness screamed, an ear-wrenching scream, before it immeidatly vanished into smoke.
The scientists blinked into the room. It seemed like it was over too easily...
Ignoring the stunned faces of the others, Lavi and Komoui rushed into the room.
Allen lay on his side, eyes peacefully closed. The moment lavi touched him, he knew something was wrong. He was cold. He was cold!
"Komoui!" Lavi cried, as Allen's chest heaved in a small wrasping breath. Komoui nodded. "Get him to the hospital wing as quickly as you can."
Lavi was already out of the room at the word 'wing'.
Komoui sighed, running a hand through his hair. He was about to follow when he turned, and saw something that made his heart stop.
***

"Allen."
...
"Allen."
who...
"Allen."
who's there?
"Allen."
Who is that?
"Allen."
"Kanda..?"
"What..?"
Allen's groggy eyes finally cracked open. It felt like he had been hit by a truck, backed over, hit again, and then thrown onto the freeway.
Or something along those lines.
The room sput a bit, and his eyes threatened to close everytime he looked anywhere but straight up. Which mean he was staring at some rather painful flouresant lighting.
"Kanda, when did you get back?"
"Are you feeling alright Allen?"
He blinked, then turned his head ever so slightly to find Lenalee sitting next to his bed. How had he mixed up their voices?
"Ah, Lenalee, sorry, I'm just a bit groggy is all."
He raised a lead weighted hand to run it through his sloppy hair. What in the world was going on?
"Where am I?" he asked, looking around.
"The infirmary."
He turned at the cracking sound of Lenalee's voice. She sounded like she had been crying. And now that he looked at her, her face was red, and stained with the trails left behind from her tears. Why would she be crying? Sure he was in the infirmary, (why was he in here agian?) but it wasn't like he was hurt or anything. He had just been in kanda's room and... and...
Fallen asleep.
He paled.
"Lenalee." He swallowed and licked his lips, trying to prepare himself. "What happened?"
The girl looked at him, keeping herself together for only a few moments before tears began to stream down her face again.
"Allen-kun... It's not your fault!" She cried, burying her face into her hands. "You... it wasn't... and kanda... and... but you couldn't have..!"
And that was all it took.
Allen tossed the blankets from his body, standing. A few of the nurses turned his way, preparing to stop him, but before they could even call out, he was out of the room and down the hall.
It was oddly silent today. No one was out. Maybe they were all getting the rest they deserved.
As he listened to the sound of his bare feet slapping against the pavement, he knew that wasn't the case. Something had happened. All he could do was pray that it wasn't something that couldn't be reversed.
He was never one to beleive in omens, but the clarity of Kanda's voice before he awoke only added to the shivers running up and down his spine. That either meant one of two things. Kanda had returned, and was simply angry that Allen had touched his hourglass. He prefered this thought. Second, something had happend.
But those words un-nerved him. Through the heavy beating of his heart, and his laboured breathing, and the sounds of his body rushing through the hallway, he could still hear Lenalee's cry.
...and kanda...
It hadn't sounded happy...
...and kanda...
She was desperate...
Kanda!
Allen practically slammed into the wooden doors of Komoui's office. Not even stopping to catch his breath, he flattened his hands and shoved the massive blocks aside, and looked around frantically in the semi-darkened room.
Kanda wasn't there.
But neither was Komoui.
However, someone was sitting on the plush red couch. Allen immediatly recognized the flames of red hair.
"L-lavi..." he panted.
Lavi turned and looked at him. Their eyes caught for a split second before lavi looked away. Back down at the object in his lap. The box it had come from was lying on its side, ripped and spewing its packing puff inards around the floor, as if someone had opened it in a hurry. The long slender black sheath, that was lovingly cleaned and gently handled, was protruding over the armrest, and right in Allen's sight.
Why was that here?
Why was that here?!
He turned and ran, leaving Lavi with Mugen. If the sword was here, that meant the owner was here as well. Kanda wouldn't let anyone take mugen from him unless they pried it from his cold de-...
He had to be here.
Flying down another hallway, he finally found his destination. That door. That wooden door. The beautiful wrought iron always seemed so inviting.. but now...
It was laughing at him.
What had he done!?
Throwing it open with more force then nessicary, he sighed as he finally found his goal. Komoui was standing by the window, observing the cracks.
"Komo-" Allen stopped. Something was missing.
Something in the room was very out-of-place. Because it was missing. It wasn't there.
The soft glow from the hourglass.
Allen stared in horror. The once beautiful glass lay on the floor, split in half. The sight was heart wrenching. Glass shards were littered around, sticking out at odd angles like so many broken bones. The sterling silver casing was bent and twisted. The beautiful water that once held the lotus was now a murky brown, contaminated by the cobblestone floor and sinking into the crevaces.

And in the middle of it all were the shrivled remains of what was once a healthy pink lotus, now black and crumpled, turning to dust in the light breeze.

No petals were left. Nothing was left. Nothing.
"Allen."
He barely registered Komoui's voice, but managed to turn toward it anyway. Why did it sound so much like kanda's!?

"Kanda is dead."

Group: ...
Allen: Author...chan...
Author:...
I told you this was unlucky.
...
Kanda: yes, but did you really have to prove it by KILLING ME!?
Lenalee: Alright guys, just calm down!
Kanda: you shut up! your just happy that you even HAD a part, however brain numbing it was!
lenalee: yeah, i thought you had kinda killed me off Author-chan (Kanda: grumbles) What's with the sudden love?
Author: that's all part of my, Allen is supposed to fall in love with lenalee and not kanda plan.
Allen: i couldn't love him anyway. That would be necrophilia.
Author: okay, you did NOT just go there.
Allen: Kukuku...
Lavi: So why did I have mugen?
kanda: GIVE IT BACK BEFORE YOU WRECK IT!
Author: sorry Kanda, but dead boy's dont get swords!
Kanda: Im going to haunt ALL OF YOU! *points*
Lavi: wow, that was one serious update. *whistles*. Is this what happens when my little author-chan makes stuff up out of thin air?
Author: this is more like... what happens when im semi consious and listening to music right before i fall asleep. And suprisingly, most of the music is NOT hardcore. So... not really sure where it came from...
Kanda: where ever it came from, put it back.
Author: Don't worry, I will. wink
Allen: eh?
Author: *pats head* don't worry about it. but you'll see soon enough! Don't forget, you get to join Kanda in the afterlife eventually!
Lenalee: Why do you just give it away like that author-chan! what's the fun if we KNOW he's going to die!
Author: well, you don't know how, or when, but most importantly, you dont know why.
Allen: the darkness kills me right?
Author: and where did the darkness come from?
Allen: uh... luna said... there was something inside me... calling to it.
Author: and what would that be?
Kanda: his idiocy?
Lenalee: the 14th?
Lavi: his black hole of a stomach?
Group: ...?
lavi: what? they're both made of pure, life absorbing darkness!
Allen: aha... sweatdrop
Kanda: Alright, just shut up and tell us what to expect next time so i can go home and fire my manager. I need to find better work...
Author: You can't leave just yet dearest Samurinja! Because next time, we finally get a few explanations! What happened to Allen and the hourglass? Where did Mugen come from? What about everything else? And suprisingly enough... a visit from... Kanda!?
Group: o.O
Author: told ya~
lavi: Can i see what's going to happen author chan? can i can i!? the suspense is killing me!!
Author: nee hee... *hand's lavi the script*
Lavi: *reads*. Oh author-chan... pure... pure genius!
Author: everyone else will have to wait and see!
Until next time everyone!
Ja'ne!

And kanda DIED. that's not giving it away, thats it actually happening! rofl
