Chapter Nine Minnesota [Airport]
Mandy was slumped against her suitcase in the airport, her eyes half closed with sleep. She wanted to wait for her friends but she didn’t know how much longer she could last. Suddenly, she felt a tap on her shoulder. Looking up, she saw a flight attendant, holding a cup of coffee. “Here ya go, Honey,” she said, handing her the warm cup. Mandy smiled as brightly as she could, eagerly sipping the liquid. It ran down her throat and warmed her stomach, waking her up instantly. “Thank you,” she said, sipping it again. The flight attendant smiled and walked away. Mandy had listened to every CD she had brought with her 3 times each and she was bored out of her mind. She fell back on her suitcase and yawned loudly. Suddenly, she heard a voice over the loud speaker that said “Flight 1031 from Ontario now landing at gate G9.” Mandy leapt from where she was sitting and ran as fast as she could to gate G9, her suitcase trailing behind her. She got there just as the people were deplaning. Mandy searched the crowds, jumping up and down to try and see if she could see- “CHELS!!!” She shrieked at the top of her lungs. The girl with the goggles looked up and pointed a sparkling silver nail at her friend, a huge grin on her face. She then poked Carla, who was already trying to push her way through the crowds to Mandy. Britt had managed to slip past everyone and had now vaulted herself onto Mandy. The two were snuggling on the floor when Carla jumping on them. Chels was next, fairy wings and all. “I’m so glad you guys are here!” shouted Mandy. “I was about to pass out in the airport and completely miss you guys!” “Oh please! We would’ve searched this airport from top to bottom!” said Britt. “Yeah! We would’ve made a quest out of it, a real ******** adventure,” said Chels, nodding. “Perhaps we should get up off the floor. I think the flight attendant said something about getting a broom and sweeping us up,” said Carla, giggling at the image. The rest of the girls laughed and began helping each other off the floor. The four of them began walking through the airport arm-in-arm, their suitcases dragging behind them. “So, where should we go now?” asked Chels, “I know nothing about this state.” “I think there’s a hotel somewhere around here,” said Mandy, “We can go there and crash for the night.” “Sounds like a plan!” said Carla, smiling. “How are we gonna get there?” asked Britt. Mandy thought for a moment. “Hmmm…well, I don’t think it’s THAT far. Maybe we can walk.” “Or maybe we can hijack that thing,” said Chels, a devious grin spreading across her face. She was pointing to one of the golf-cart type things that take flight attendants from gate to gate. Before anyone could stop her, she was sprinting across the airport, sliding into the driver’s seat and starting up the engine. The three girls exchanged glances and raced after their friend, jumping onto various seats, and throwing their luggage on board. “Hold on!” She shouted, jerking the steering wheel sharply to the right and slamming on the accelerator. The three girls gripped onto the sides of the cart while Chels drove through the airport like a girl possessed. She shouted random lyrics out to make people move out of her way. Soon, the cart was speeding out of the automatic doors and down the street, swerving in and out of traffic. “Mandy!” Chels shouted, “You have to give me directions!” “LEFT! LEFT! GO LEFT!” She shouted, her knuckles becoming white with the tightness of her grip. The cart veered off to the left and continued to race through the night at high speed. After about 15 minutes and shouted-out directions from Mandy, Chels was able to get the crew to the hotel in one piece. She parked the cart in the parking lot and smiled as she pulled her suitcase out. “That wasn’t so bad, was it?” She asked. The other merely grumbled and glared at her as she just laughed. “Come on, let’s go get a room.”
