author: *sweat*
Lavi: author-chan... you know you should do it...
Author: well, i have tomorrow to do it too.. so... im not really procrastinating... just... not doing it early. yeah...
Kanda: idiot...
Author: do you WANT me to kill you off? you're on a mission you know. it would be hard. *evil grin*
Alteara: NOOOOO!! Author-chan, NO KILLING!
Author: oh, alteara... when did you get here... aha... i wasn't... i would never.... aha... *deadpan*
Alteara: you know what this means author chan. go to your corner. *points*
Author: awww... *shuffles to corner*
Allen: so what do we do now that author chan is in the punishment corner?
Lenalee: yeah Alteara-chan, you're like... co-author... so ... what do we do?
Alteara: um... i didnt think of that. o o
Group: *Facepalm*
Alteara: well... how does author-chan usually do it? we talk and then... disclaimer... and then... we start. right?
Kanda: sounds about right.
Lavi: So... what do we talk about..?
Group: ...
Author: *Coughtalkaboutcollegecough*
Alteara: author-chan are you okay? that cough sounds horrible...
Lavi: SO! autho-i mean Alteara-chan, how is college life?
Alteara: I love it! Its fun hanging out with my new friends alot, and classes aren't too bad, and there are tons of beautiful gardens to explore on campus! I still really miss everyone at home though...
Lenalee: that sounds like fun!
Lavi: have you heard about Author-chan's experiences yet?
Alteara: TELL ME!!
Lavi: she's having a good time! her room mates are all completely different, and alot of fun to hang around. her room is pretty small, but it makes it cozy, even though its freezing. Classes already have tons of homework, but she found the school's starbucks and now has yummy drinks and food all the time!!
Also, she has seriously considered filing a lawsuit against the person who created the first set of stairs for cruel and unusual torture.
Lenalee: she seems to have this crazy notion that once the year is over she'll be able to break a brick with her calves....
Alteara: aha... *sweat*
Kanda: alright, lets just get this over with.
Alteara: eh? oh yeah! disclaimer! would...would you do the honors kanda?
Kanda: *mumbles*
Lavi: Author-chan banned him from doing disclaimers, because he can't do them right!
Alteara: eh? well... i think he will do it just fine!
Kanda: *blush*
Lavi: did you hear that Yuu-chan? she said she thinks you can DO IT just fine!
Kanda: *head explodes*
Alteara: eh?! What? what? i dont get it! what happened?!
Allen: you had better let me do the disclaimer Alteara-chan. It will save you some sanity.
Alteara: what... oh... okay?
Allen: *sigh* It's a darn good thing Author-chan doesn't own D. Gray man. If she did... it would be like this. - -
Lenalee: and we would be sad...

Alteara: ... why didnt the story start?
Group: ...
Kanda: *whispers*
Alteara: oh, but i couldn't!!
Kanda: *Nudge* you have to.
Alteara: Um.. could everyone... kinda... um... places...?
Group: ...
Kanda: GET IN YOUR PLACES SO WE CAN START IDIOTS!
Group: *Scatters*
Alteara: ah... thank you kanda...
Kanda: *blushes, mumbles and walks away (and right into a chair only to trip, catch himself and walk away akwardly)
Alteara: *dreamy sigh*

Pieces of the Heart
Part 11

Komoui sat at his desk, staring past gleaming glasses at the group before him. Allen sat on the couch, sinking into it like a sack of potatoes. Lavi was on his left, carfully reguarding komoui, but also keeping an eye on Allen to make sure he didnt fall asleep or need anything. On the other side, sat a curious looking Lenalee. At the bottom of the couch, lying beside Allen's feet, was the violet guardian, carfully watching the supervisor with a critical gaze.
At his desk, Komoui stared at the paper in front of him, which held (to his slight disbelief) the detailed notes he took over what Allen had just recited to him. He could hardly comprehend what they had told him. Allen was being hunted? by darkness? there were other people who were helping him? he couldnt sleep? lenalee's hair!!
Allen, lenalee, and lavi stared as the supervisor's face swapped from curious, to furious, to anguish before he promptly dropped it down onto his desk with a sharp "thud".
"N-Nii-san..." lenalee stared with sympathy.
The supervisor lifted his head from his desk, blinking. "Ah, right. Where was I?"
"Komoui-san, it's super early." lavi said with a yawn, stretching his arms and wincing when his back popped.
"yeah Nii-san" Lenalee agreed. "Why dont we call it a night?"
Komoui regarded the room, before giving a quick nod. He stood to see them out. At the door, he watched lavi shuffle through, then lenalee, but placed his hand on Allen's shoulder, stopping the boy in his tracks.
"Allen-kun, could i have a word?"
The brown haired boy blinked blearily, before nodding with a small ghost of a smile. He quickly told Lavi and Lenalee to go and get some sleep, before returning into the room, gently shutting the door.
"What can i do for you Komoui-san?" Allen smiled again. Komoui frowned, before putting his hands on both the boys shoulders.
"Allen-kun... " He stared deep into amber eyes. "I'm concerned."
"Well..." Allen seemed to look around, trying to find an escape. "I'll do my best to stay awake, so the darkness shouldnt hurt anyone else..."
"It's not the darkness im worried about!!" Komoui shouted, increasing his grip. Allen stared up wide eyes, like a deer caught at the barrel of a gun. Komoui sighed, before releasing Allen's shoulders and adjusting his glasses.
"I'm worried about you Allen-kun. You never take enough care of yourself..."
Allen's eyes turned sad.
"Komoui-san... thank you for worrying... but really-"
He was cut off when the supervisor leaned forward and caught the boy in a hug. Allen froze.
"You mean more to the people around you than you realize." komoui said quietly. "You're like... family. Don't hold everything in. You'll make this uncle worry more than nessisary." Komoui pulled Allen away and smiled softly, still holding his shoulders. Allen stared with wide amber eyes, before his face melted into a smile.
"Thank you. Komoui."
The two talked for a few more moments before Komoui suggested that Allen head for breakfast, seeing as Jerry would be up by then. When he left, Komoui gently closed the door before turning back into his paper filled office. He stopped and blinked. The violet fox was sitting on the couch, carefully staring at the desk. Komoui walked over and stood by the arm rest. The fox turned its face to him. There was a moment of silence.
"Do you still disapprove of me?" Komoui said softly. The fox seemed to snort, before jumping to the floor and walking over to the man. It sniffed at a limp hand, before gently grazing its head against it, encouraging komoui to pet it. The man smiled.
"Yeah." he said softly. "Looks like we both want to protect him."

The air was full of smoke and thick fog, cutting the thick beams of light from the lamp posts until they blured into nothing. The cold stone making up the ground was wet with a misty rain. He took a deep breath of air, his mind subconsiously labling the smell of smog, rain, and alcohol. A deep rumble alerted him to the train leaving the station behind him, streaming off into the darkness of night and leaving behind nothing but a solitary man standing on the platform. Saphire eyes turned to the sky. He would have counted the stars, if it weren't for the thick dirty clouds blocking the heavens.
He didnt even move when he heard the shuffling in the darkness of his outpost. He felt the darkness swirling around the outcrops and deterriorating walls of the building. Looking ahead, he took a few steps. The sounds of his thick boots reverberated off of the walls and into the night, dissapearing like bats into the sky.
Something shifted to the left, jumping from one hiding place to another. That was one. A movement to the right alerted him to two more, and the feeling behind him was another. He stopped. The silence grew to fill the air, pressing into skin and sky. A silent hand drew up to the hilt of his sword, gently fingering the weave pattern of the hilt.
The wind howled softly through the area, ruffling black cloth and ebony hair.
Any moment now...
His grip increased. The one from the left jumped first. They moved to surround the target, creating a circle. Surely, four of them would would be able to kill one measily human right?
The dark orbs floated into the sky, trailing entrails of maching and gore and silently screaming into the air. A flash of light and a scream of air later, and four explosions rocked the night, waking several peacfully sleeping residents of the quaint little town.
One man, namly John Kurtz, had distinctly heard the blasts, and rushed to his door, dressed in a night robe and armed with a baseball bat. In the center of the street, not too far from the nearby train station, the smoking remains of four mechanical skeletons lay sprawled across the ground. The bat hit the ground with a resounding "crack". The sound of fabric tore his eyes from the grotesque scene and up onto the rooftops. A dark figure was staring down at him, saphire eyes lined with ebony hair dancing in the wind. A bright katana shone at his side. The figure watched for a moment, then vanished. John blinked, dropping to the ground.

That was the day that the small town of kurshweis first heard of the legend of the "merciful dark angel" who would punish those who sold their soul to evil, for the sake of those who lived.

"Allen-kun!"
Amber eyes turned to meet the bright eyes of Lenalee Lee. "What's up?" Allen asked.
"Did you know that Kanda-kun returns today?" She cheered happily.
Allen smiled.
"Ah, yes! Lavi told me eariler. We're going down to meet him later. Would you like to come?"
Lenalee frowned. "I'd like to, but Nii-san said he had a mission for me... so i have to leave."
"That's alright" Allen smiled brighter. "I'll be sure to tell him you said you were sorry you couldnt meet him."
"Thanks Allen-kun!" Lenalee smiled back. "I've got to pack because i leave soon. See you when i get back!" She waved and ran off. Allen was waving back when he was tackled by a red headed rabbit.
Oh wait... it was actually just lavi.
"Ne, Allen-kun! How you holdin' up?" Lavi laughed, looking over the boy. Allen smiled back. "I'm alright." He said.
Lavi took a moment to analyze the growing circles around the boys eyes, along with the slight slouch, mussed hair, desheveled appearence, and all around lack of brightness. Allen was fading fast.
"Hey, wanna go wait for Yuu-chan?" Lavi grinned.
Allen nodded enthusiastically, and was dragged away.
***

"... Where is he?"
Allen turned to blink at lavi, who returned an equally confused face.
"I dunno. Komoui said he would be here around this time, so..." Lavi glanced up at the clock on the wall for the 15th time in a minute.
"you dont think... something happened... do you?" Allen's eyes were full of hope that Lavi would deny his worst fear. Like the bookman could resist.
"Are you kidding me!? He's the infamous Yuu-chan! There's no way something would keep him from home and his soba."
Allen seemed to perk up a little more, before he turned back to the tunnel, nervously chewing on a fingernail.
"That's a bad habit Allen-chan~." Lavi sang. Allen jumped before snapping his hand down to his side. He couldn't help it. He would feel so much more releived if Kanda was there...
"Allen-kun! Lavi!"
The summoned pair turned to see Lenalee running at them.
"Lenalee!" Allen smiled at the girl. "I thought you had to leave for a mission..."
"Im leaving now!" Lenalee grinned, holding up her little suitcase. "I got delayed... I was trying to speak with Nii-san when he got a call from Kanda's finder and-"
"What happened to Kanda!?" Allen snapped, before he blushed and put a hand over his mouth. "Sorry..."
"Its alright Allen kun!" lenalee chirped, petting the boy on the head. "You're just concerned is all. Apparently, on the train ride home, Kanda's train was attacked by something strange."
Allen paled while Lavi tilted his head. "What kind of strange?"
Lenalee watched Allen carefully. "well..." She hesitated. "The finder wasn't sure... it just... got really dark. And then when the lights came back... Kanda was missing..."
"Oh god." Allen moaned, pushing his face into his hands. "It was probably the darkness! I told Kanda to be carefull!"
"nah, Allen-chan!" Lavi quickly tried to pull damage control, slinking an arm around the dispairing boy. "Like i said, Yuu-chan isnt one to be taken down easily. He'll show up again... just wait."
Allen looked up hopefully, before nodding.
"We'll see you later Lenalee!" Lavi waved the girl off, and Allen gave a feeble attempt at a wave and smile before the two vanished back up into the tower.
***

"Come on Allen." Lavi ordered. "Either tell me what's wrong, or I'm taking you back to Komoui."
Allen fidgeted in his seat, twisting his hands in his shirt hem.
"Nothings wrong." he said, much to innocently. "I just felt like taking a little break is all..." The brown haired boy blinked his dark circled eyes up at the bookman. Lavi flinched, trying not to get sucked into the twin whirlpools of guilt-trip.
"For five hours?" He pressed, "On a cafeteria bench? not eating!?"
Allen squirmed a little more, laughing nervously. By now, he was used to Lavi's constant 'mothering', thought that didnt make it any easier. Though if kanda were here...
Lavi watched the boy in front of him deflate slightly, and knew he was thinking of the samurai who had yet to return. Lavi was just as concerned, if not more, but he had to keep Allen from despair!
"What's wrong Allen?" Lavi redoubled his efforts.
"Im not... hungry?" the boy tried. Lavi just stared.
Allen sighed, then turned back to stare at the little guardian set on the wood table. Allen had discovered that the stone fox preffered to be just that: stone. So he had taken the pendant off and placed it around his neck. Somehow, it made him feel safe. He had also gotten into the habit of carrying the little fox with him. He had managed to stay up for the past three days with lavi, who was faring much better than he was. The world was spinning, dimming and floating for him. He could see the increase in the dark rings around his eyes. Not only that, but the black spot on his leg was growing. At first, Allen had panicked, but he decided to keep it a secret, unwilling to burden the already busy science department that was trying to figure out just where on earth kanda went.
He winced lightly as his knee gave a violent throb. That black spot was encroaching on his knee know, and pulsed with pain whenever he moved. Usually it wasn't that bad, but it had suddenly gotten worse this morning, causing him to seek refuge on a bench in the cafeteria until is subsided. But now it was 5 hours later, and his leg was still quietly throbbing, threatening to worsen if he moved.
"Allen." Lavi sat down next to the boy, shaking him from his stupor. "I just don't want you to get sick again..."
Allen sighed, his gaze softening. "Im sorry... Im just tired..."
"Why don't we try that sleeping in the sun thing?" Lavi suggested, running a hand over his chin in thought. "I'm sure it couldn't hurt."
Allen seemed torn between nodding enthusiastically and giving Lavi a skeptical look, but the urge to sleep won over at the end, and he found himself agreeing. A nap would do wonders...
Lavi laughed softly, watching as Allen acted a lot less altert than he probably thought he was.
"let's go get the okay from Komoui."
He grabbed Allen's arm and pulled him from the bench. Allen hissed in pain and dropped to the floor, quickly gripping his knee in an attempt to stem the pain. Lavi quickly pounced, checking the boy over quickly before prying at his knee. He pulled up his pant leg.
"Ah-Lavi!" Allen hissed, trying to hide the mark.
"it's what i thought." Lavi stared sternly past Allens trembling hands to see the big dark spot engulphing Allen's knee. "Does it hurt?"
Allen grit his teeth and nodded.
Lavi sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"Why didnt you say anything?!" he snapped, before regaining his composure. Allen looked down appologetically.
"Alright then." Lavi tried to smile, but it was deflated. "let's go see komoui." He turned and stuck his hands out to Allen, inviting the boy to climb onto his back. Allen accepted, and the pair began to trot toward Komoui's.
"Lavi..." Allen said quietly, into the red head's shoulder, "Don't tell about the balck spot."
"Won't he worry about why you can't walk?" Lavi kept looking ahead.
"I don't want him to worry." Allen sighed. "he's already busy enough..."
"He'll be even busier if we lose another exorsist." Lavi regretted the words the moment they left his mouth, and was only greeted with Allen's silence.
