My odd and unusal ramblings
You need a description?
Rant about prices
So I was at college yesterday and is was the middle of an 8 hour day. Of course since no one brings their own drinks that can actually last that long, we have vending machines that offer pop, water, gaterade really anything except booze.
Vending machines at schools are all ready over priced as it is. I mean its $2.25 for a bottle of pop where anywhere else you can get it for less then $2.00. That's fine and dandy but the thing I noticed that water, the good water is worth $3.00.
My first thought was: "What the HELL?" as I compared the prices. I mean if they want us to all be healty, drink lots of water and get off the carbonaded, sugar addled crap, why are they charging $.75 more? Especially at a college where students tend to save every penny because of tuition and actual living expenses.
So this got me thinking. Why is it that essential things we need, like milk, bread water, all cost this premium when crap we don't need, like microwavable dinners, kraft dinner ext, costs much less? A friend of mine quite litterally lives of Kraft dinner and coke-a-cola. Why? Because it's cheaper then trying to buy the meats and veggies he should be getting on a daily basis.
I know I really have no right to complain, seeing as we live in an over-feed economy and not in the third world where they barely get a meal a day. I mean $2.00 for broccoli would be an outrage to them where we have learned to live with it.
But honestly, if the cost of living was a bit lower, I think more people would spare the dollar or two they save and donate to those third world countries. I know I would. I avoided those Salvation Army people this winter because I thought to myself: "Okay, if I donate, I can forget about *insert food item here*." I'm not a light donator either, I would be giving a $5.00 bill.
Personally, I would love to put $5.00 in every donation box I see, but I can't do that with the cost of living being so high. Where I live now it costs close to $1,000 for a medium sized apartment. Or more depending where you go. I would move but the commune is worse and I'd like to try not and add to the global warming thing.
I guess I should just gather all my cash and move to some third world country. I could probably live like a millionare there. I mean sure, infectious disease and what not, but at least the cost of living is lower. And who's to say that because I'm forgien and because I have cash I can't get good medical care? Hm. I think research is in order.
I'm done now. Comment me, yell at me, whatever. I'll respond accordinly. Which means, if you're rude, I'll be rude right back. It's just how I am.
