Okay, first, I have to admit a few of my driving habbits. I tend to be a decent driver. Yeah I have a bit of a lead foot and speed but I never go any faster then say 10 KPH over the speed limit. Meaning if it's a 50 zone, I do 55. It's just the flow of traffic and I'd rather not have some person tailgaiting me.
I admit, I don't drive with both hands on the wheel all the time, but when I'm turning corners of going along a curvy road, I put both hands on the wheel. I look in my rearview mirror at least every 15 seconds or so.
So with all that said, I can be called a half-decent driver. I mean hey, I was three points from perfect on my G test so yeah. What I don't get, is even if I'm going my 5-10 clicks faster then the speed limit, some people feel the need to tailgate me. Or better yet, when the roads are perfectly clear, some people feel the need to do 40 in a 50 zone.
Example: I'm driving along one of the rural roads in my area, the speed limit is 70. I'm doing 78-80. Some guy in a read truck starts coming up behind me from way the heck back there and suddenly he's about 10 inches from my back bumper. What the HELL? I mean really, I'm all ready going over the speed limit, don't ride my a**.
Fine and dandy, whatever, I mind my own business and keep pace at 82. (we're now well over speed limit here) So he honks. Then honks again. Then he pulls closer to the back of my car, probably comikng with in a few inches. I point out the passing speed limit sign, and he gives me the finger.
No this guy had no passenger, there was no emergeny that he had. He was just being a general jerk. So fine, I decided to be the bigger person and I flipped on my right hand turning signal and pulled off the one-lane so he could pass me. And pass me he did, swerving about three inches in front of my car while pulling over to effectivly block me on the side of the road. I calmly turned down my music, which wasn't that loud to begin with, and wrote down his license plate number.
He waited for a car to pass got out of his car and started walking towards mine. I opened my door and got out. I found it kind of funny then that he paused. I'm 6 foot four, wearing all black and now quite pissed off. He's about twice my age, 5 foot 11 inches and looks like he's been out of shape for quite some time.
To shorten the story a bit, no we didn't fight. I calmly asked him why he felt the need to tailgate me when I was all ready speeding and told him I had his license plate number, he chickened out a took off.
I don't know about you, but people like that shouldn't have their license. I mean if your going to blaitenly disregard speeding laws and other traffic laws, don't drive. Simple as that.
I ended up informing the police and they suspended his license for aggressive and reckless driving. What some people don't understand is that it's a huge responsiblity to be behind the wheel. You have your life on the line and the lives of everyone on the road so you should obey the law. I mean they were put in place for a reason.
On the flip side, the people who go ten under the speed limit are breaking laws too. It's called impeding the flow of traffic.
