My odd and unusal ramblings
You need a description?
Rant on guyliner
Okay so if you don't know what that is, it's when a guy where eyeliner. Yep, I went into this realm, the whole guy wearing make-up realm.
Okay, so let me start by saying, I'm a bit of a weirdo, a freak if you will. I like to do what I do because I like it and if it bugs someone, well too bad. I wear eyeliner, I may be so inclined to paint my nails if the mood suits me. No I'm not gay. I'm just strange and weird.
Why do I do this? Because I like to. My nails are really weird looking so I cover them with paint. I want my eyes to stand out even more so then usual, so I line them.
Personally, I don't see a problem with it. It's not like me wearing nail polish and eyeliner is killing someone or what not. It's not like it's a crime for a man to wear make-up, so why do people think it's bad? To most its more accepted but there's still people out there who frown upon it.
For example, my teacher in college. Now, just to explain a few things first. This is my second week back so I was lazy first week and didn't much care. I just painted my nails last night, today was the first day I put eyeliner on, so he hadn't seen it yet.
When I walked into class, he kind of did this double take then asked: "Did you lose a bet or something?" I guess I looked at him funny or something so he said: "It's the eyeliner and nails, you must have lost a bet." I remember first being a bit insulted, and was about to tell him off when two things crossed my mind. One, well he's my teacher, if I lip off to him he could get me kicked out or fail me. Two, he's an older guy so he's probably not used to seeing male students walk in with make-up on. Then again, this is an art college.
So I told him that no, I didn't lose a bet, this was how I normally dressed because I liked it. I explained how I hated how my nails looked so I covered them and that I liked when my eyes stood out more so I lined them. Then he asked me if I was gay.
I explained to him that I like erm.. screwing girls and usually if a guy even touches me for too long I tended to strike out (to which my gay friend Dave agreed, seeing as I decked him when he kissed me--that's a whole other rant). So then my prof got this really weird look on his face and shook his head.
He hasn't really spoken to me the same since this morning, even in the halls if I pass him or what not. This entire thing got me thinking, what IS the problem if a guy wants to wear nail polish and eyeliner? I mean a lot males in different cultures wore different forms of make-up. And it's not like I'm going the whole nine yards like some guys I know, with the lipstick and the eyeshadow.
It's like he lost all respect for me when I put that little bit of make-up on and I don't know, it bugs me. I mean, it doesn't change who I am. I'm still the same person he met last week, I haven't changed how I act. And next week, I'm still going to wear eyeliner and nail polish in his class because I refuse to change because someone doesn't like how I look.
Teacher or not, it's just an outer shell. It shouldn't matter what I look like. What matters most is what a person acts like, who they really are on the inside. Because when you get down to it, all we have that lasts forever is who we are. Yeah that concept of ourselves may change, but it is always us. Beauty and outer appearance fades, it doesn't matter. The soul is what counts.
